View 1 RepliesThis sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.
Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.
The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.
i am wondering how to improve my pc speed. i know the basic stuff like cleaning cookies, uninstalling programs and defragmenting.
Core 2 Quad Q6400
Radeon 4870 512 mb
4 gb ddr2
400 gb 7200 rpm
I Used my PC from around last 3 years, and i never formatted it. But recently it takes too much time to booting and the processing speed is very slow, after fifteen minutes it becomes normal. it had 4 GB ram.how can i improve my processing speed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not too terrible familiar with all the ins and outs of networking, but I have some "basic" questions as I am looking into improving my network speed.
I'll begin with what I have on the network.
2 PCs, PS3, Xbox 360 (all wired) and a Wii (wireless).
I have a WRT54GS router currently. I'm considering getting the D-Link DGL-4500 as an upgrade. My question is, would this be a significant upgrade? One of my PCs has a gigabit Ethernet card and one does not. Will this router supply the fastest speed to each device or would it provide the speed that the weakest device was capable of to all devices on the network?
Secondly, my Internet provider offers 3 packages.
7 Mbps X 512 Kbps
9 Mbps X 768 Kbps
11 Mbps X 1 Mbps
I currently have the 1st package (7 X 512), so how dramatic would the change from the 1st to 3rd package be?
I'm primarily looking to A) Get constant good speeds when gaming B) Get significant increased speeds when streaming video etc.
Again, I'm quite new to the networking side of things, so I don't know if these questions even make complete sense, but I thought I'd ask before I try the spend and trial/error approach, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a new M7 64 bit machine with 8GB of memory installed, specifically Samsung 4GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 memory (times 2) and I was wanting to add identical memory sold by Micro Center for half the price. Should I pay twice the price for Samsung memory?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to open a thread to show what people are getting with there current memory settings, what improvements are shown with various timing tweaks, speed settings ect.
to access this you MUST have UAC turned off, OR choose 'Run as administrator'. open the command prompt window first, either by opening 'Run' from the start menu and typing 'cmd' --this will only work if UAC is deactivated--, or go to accessories in your start menu locate 'Command Prompt' right click, select 'Run as administrator'.
once opened simply type:
winsat mem
Note: it will not matter what the command path is set to.
i am currently facing issues with my DDR3 and being stuck at around 8500mb/s any suggestions why feel free. Dual channel and tri channel play a huge factor in this benchmark, so keep that in mind before comparing with others
so here is my winsat score:
with the current timings:
post em up and let other people know what basic timings and MHz your set at (DDR2 950MHz 4/4/4/12 ect) and channel configuration (dual/tri channel) your using.
thanks to smarteyeball for pointing out the admin trick with cmd.exe!
It is running at 1300MHz constantly and it is suppose to run at 1600MHz, any reason why? Specs at bottom.

why my 64 bit laptop keeps "locking up". It becomes totally unresponsive, on the majority of occasions it is necessary to press the power button for 6 seconds to switch it off. The problems only started occuring after I upgraded the memory from 4Gb (2 x 2) to 8Gb (2 x 4) supplied by crucial. I have ran the windows memory diagnostic program and memtest86, both of which detected no problems. If I re-install the original memory there is no issues. The symptoms are telling me that the memory is failing however the diagnostic testing indicates otherwise.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, I've added a second hard drive to my Windows machine and now it will not boot up. I added the new hard drive on SATA 3. The original is SATA 1, and my DVD is SATA 0. This is how it's always been; I've changed nothing else. I don't have any idea where to start fixing this. I have a dual boot with Ubuntu on the same SATA drive 1, and that boots just fine. I switched on the new hard drive in the BIOS, and flipped a few other options on and off to no avail. When the computer boots I choose the Win7 install. Then it will take me to a screen that asks me if I want to start windows normally, or do a disk repair. Starting normally gets you nowhere, it will just end up resetting the computer. Starting the disk check will do a scan for a few minutes and then ask me if I want to send an error report. Clicking yes or no doesn't seem to matter because after that the only option is to shutdown or reboot. When this first started I at one point had the option to do a system restore, but I didn't think it was necessary so I didn't. I no longer receive that option or I would try it at this point

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt is my understanding that allowing the windows paging file to install on an SSD boot drive will cause the drive to wear out quickly. The recommendation seems to be to placing windows paging and perhaps other components on a mechanical hard drive while placing other parts of the Windows operating system on the SSD.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a hp compaq nc6320, Intel core 2 1.66GHz with 4GB RAM running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I've just done a fresh install and installed all updates and now it seems to take ages (around 5 minutes) to boot in to windows to a point where I can open a browser or program etc. Is this just because of all the updates, as before I applied them it was a much quicker process booting into windows? Anything I can do to speed things up a little?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just recently built a new gaming rig and am running an SSD for boot up.
Everything turns out just fine except when after the windows logo appears, I can hear a little crackle noise from my headphone then the monitor loses signal and my g15 keyboard LCD turns off, then a few moments later my monitor and keyboard comes back to normal and i am a the login screen. It is not a big deal but am just puzzled at why it would do this.
It does slow down my boot speed by a lot especially for an SSD. Anyone know how i can speed this up? Someone told me disable USB 3.0 to speed things up. Any problems with Asrock MOBO drivers that could affect this?
I have two harddrives, the primary one 584 GB, the secondary one 1.36 TB. When booting, my computer takes about a minute or two to fully load, but if I start to actually use it, virtually all programs will move slowly, consume lots of memory, explorer windows will take forever to load, and even cause my video card to stutter a bit.
A while ago, I unplugged the secondary drive, and found that my computer booted up much faster, and was infinitely more stable soon after loading.
But with two harddrives, in order to maintain stability, I often wait up to 5 - 10 minutes after booting to the desktop, just to be safe.
Is this a normal symptom of having two huge harddrives, both of which are filled with about 500 GB each, and programs like Norton security suite and messenger programs all needing to boot up? Or is this a problem with the second harddrive?
I just want to be able to increase the speed of my fans beyond their spec, and have complete manual control over their RPMs without a care about the temps. I have a liquid cooling setup and the fans on my radiator as they are right now simply aren't cutting it. I have them hooked up to the motherboard in hopes of finding something to just boost their speed via software, but SpeedFan is the only thing I could find and it simply sucks for that purpose.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA while ago I was using Windows XP Pro on my laptop. I was then forced to switch completely to Windows 7, but because I had so many application and configurations done on the XP, I created a VHD from it (using this) before replacing it. Now, I want to know if its possible to set that VHD beside my current OS as dual boot.I searched and found solutions, but those are either to add a new VHD (Windows 8 mostly) to the dual boot, or loading VHD in virtual machines. Also, if it is possible, can I copy the VHD on my external HDD and load it every time from there? The whole idea is because my laptop is not so powerful and it wouldn't handle VMs very well. Because of the same reason, XP Mode is not an option.Normal dual boot also is not preferred for two reasons:
1. I want my configurations which are already set on the VHD,
2. My laptop's HDD is only 150GB which does not have too much capacity left already. I can spare like 20-30GBs for XP, but I really cannot deal with the dual booting mess now! I will rarely use the XP for specific tasks, so VHD would be much easier if I will have the option.
I have a 1080p LG LCD Monitor.
It has 2 inputs, DVI and VGA. I have two different types of cables, HDMI-DVI and VGA-VGA. I tried connecting my laptop to the monitor.
My laptop has two outputs, VGA and HDMI. When I use the HDMI output, the image on my monitor is sharp and clear. When I use the VGA output and the VGA-VGA cable, the image on my monitor is blurry.
EDIT: My VGA connector also has one peculiarity. From the point of view of the sockets, Pin No. 9 is missing, for both ends. (although it may unused)
i have a problems about my pc, sometimes the cpu usage goes to 90% without opening many things, my ram performance is always around 75%. also when i play any gameit become lag for a few seconds and weird sound came out.
