Windows 7 Freezing Intermittently?

Mar 3, 2011

I have a Toshiba sattelite A215 that I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 32 bit Windows 7 Pro. I did a clean install from a legit copy of 7. Prior to installing, I ran the upgrade advisor and there was one device (listed as unknown) that was listed as not compatible.A few days after install, after the laptop sits idle for a few hours, when I open it up and start navigating, it will freeze up. I power off using the power button, power back up, and it works fine. Next time I try to use it after it sits idle for a while, again it freezes. This process is repeated nearly every time I start using it after it sits idle for a few hours

Computer Freezing Intermittently Due To Wireless Card

Nov 1, 2012

I custom built my computer and I am having problems with intermittent freezing. I had to replace my last wireless adapter because the connection was very slow (only sometimes). I replaced the card and now the speeds are great but sometimes the computer will freeze intermittently freeze for 1-2 secs. The mouse, video, sound and everything freezes and the sound puts out a weird "morphed" sound. To alleviate this problem I have to move the mouse down to the wireless icon in the right area of the task bar, click on it, and then click on the wireless connection. Then it will be fine. My computer is running windows 7 professional and the wireless driver is up to date.

Windows 7 Intermittently Drops Wired Connection?

May 3, 2011

When I'm disconnected, I lose all connectivity both to the internet and on the local lan, so pinging (for example) Google will time out, but also pinging 192.168.1.1 (the router's lan ip address) will also time out

Fix : Start -> dev manager -> network adapter. Double click, open her up and then under "advanced", take a look at "Link Speed & Duplex".

If this is set to auto-negotiation, try re-setting it to 10 or 100mbps Full Duplex, re-start your computer.

It's the network driver that costs me hours of hunting & searching. MOTHERBOARD : ASUS IPIBL-LB Integrated LAN : Realtek 8111C 10/100/1000 Mb/s (Gigabit Ethernet)

Wireless Connection Getting Dropped Intermittently With Windows 7?

Nov 2, 2012

I am facing an issue where the wireless connectivity drops intermittently for my Win 7 Home Basic Notebook.Within less then a minute the connection is resumed. Earlier I thought that it was an issue with my service provider. But then I did not face this issue with my Win XP notebook. I mean, both the notebooks are connected and then the wireless connection of Win 7 drops for a minute and then reconnects. During the period when the connection drops, I can still see my SSID, and also checked that the Win XP was connected and I could access the internet. What could be the root cause and the possible solutions for this issue? It is really frustrating when the connection drops when I am downloading big files and I have to start all over.

Outlook 2003 Works Intermittently On Windows 7

Aug 14, 2011

I have a new HP Notebook with Windows 7. Downloaded my old Office 2003. However, Outlook only works intermittently without any rhyme or reason. I've kept a log since August 5 for being on and being off. It is mostly off. The # of the error message that comes up is (0x800CCC0F0), it says: "The connection of the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact our server administrator or Internet service provider." My internet provider is AT&T u-verse, they tell me that they do not deal with Outlook problems, I should use webmail. Of course I use it to get my emails but don't anybody tell me what to use, I have used Outlook for the past 15+ years and I intend to continue using it. I use the very unimaginative webmail out of necessity. AT&T also tells me that that I can subscribe with a one year contact $ 15 a month to their special service to address my type of problem.

Newly Built Computer Random Freezing And Freezing On Starting Windows 7

Aug 17, 2012

I recently built my first PC three days ago...

Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

Windows 7 Clients Intermittently Unable To Resolve Host Name Of Server

Feb 20, 2012

We have 2 x Server 2008 R2 domain controllers and 120+ Windows 7 x64 clients. We have a print server which runs Server 2008 R2.We have several other servers which also run Server 2008 R2. An issue occurs intermittently and apparently at random, whereby a client will be unable to resolve the host/computer name of the print server. When the issue occurs, we have confirmed the following: - The client has a valid IP address. The client DNS server addresses are correct. - The client can ping the IP address of the print server. - The client can resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the servers FQDN. - The client cannot resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the host/computer name of the print server. The issue can occur regardless of which domain controller the client used to log on. - When the output of ipconfig /display is printed to a text file, many of the other servers in our domain are present in the DNS cache but the print server is not. After the ipconfig /flushdns command is executed, the client can resolve the host/computer name of the print server immediately.

USB Ports Intermittently Cutting Out

For a little while now, completely randomly it would seem, the USB ports on the back of my PC will seemingly cut in and out indefinitely until I do a restart.

If the devices that were plugged into the back USB ports are switched to the USB ports on the front of the case, there isn't a problem at all.

I'm almost certain that the problem is not with my mouse and keyboard as like I said, plugged into the front they work fine.

Keyboard Intermittently Stops Functioning

Ever since I installed Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite computer, the keyboard unexpectedly stops functioning at times, perhaps once a week. The only solution is to restart the computer.Windows Support says for me to call Toshiba, and Toshiba Support blames it on Windows. It seems obvious (even though nothing is obvious with computers) that the keyboard is in working order - since I can type 99 percent of the time - the glitch has to be with Windows.

Internet Connection Drops Intermittently

Sep 11, 2011

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and I just reformatted and reinstalled a couple weeks ago. I did this because I was messing around with Linux and removed the partition in the wrong drive...sigh. So anyway, Windows 7 was running rock solid prior to this....no problems whatsoever with anything. So after I reinstall Windows I notice my Internet connection drops once in a while. Some days it doesn't do it at all while others it drops multiple times. It's all up to date too. There are two things different in this install though. The first is I updated my BIOS. I did this because I suddenly couldn't access the BIOS or even use F8 on boot up. The second thing is after you install, Windows wants to update my Atheros (I believe it's called) adapter. I didn't do this with the first install because it was working fine. Ok, so there are the two differences. Do you guys think it's the adapter driver or the BIOS update? [code]

Partition / Drive Intermittently Read Only?

Feb 18, 2011

I have a pair of WD 500GB drives in Raid0 array with the resulting >900Gb partitioned such :

C: Priamry 100Gb - Windows 7 64bit
D: Primary 80 GB - Windows 7 32bit
E: Primary 40GB - Windows 7 32bit
R: Secondary Logical - 355GB - Data
Z: Secondary Logical - 355GB - Data

Using DualBootPro to boot between the various OS Both the Windows 7 32 bit installations give me no problems whatsoever, however, intermitantly when booting into the Windows 7 64 installation sometimes the R drive will appear as read only, or the Z drive will appear as read only or they are both OK.This is more an inconvenience than a major disassater, as a reboot normally resolves the issue. This appears to be cmpletely random, as it does not happen specifically after a boot into either of the Windows 7 32 installtions, but can occur even after a previous successful boot of the Windows 7 64 installation.

Dual Monitors, Second Monitor On/off Intermittently

Jan 2, 2010

I have two monitors connected to the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card (it has two DVI connections). With both monitors on everything works fine. Windows remembers which apps I have open on which monitor and so on.

However, sometimes I turn on only one (the primary) monitor. In this case Windows somehow still thinks that both monitors are there, so the apps which would open on the second monitor still do so, i.e. I can't see them when I start them, and the mouse goes easily beyond the active monitor.

Now, the second monitor is completely off - it has a real power switch. But it's possible that it still has some voltage through the connector so that Windows - or the graphic card - detects its presence. I have not tried to unplug it but maybe I should do that as well.

So finally my question - is it possible to make Windows aware that the second monitor is not in use and only extend the desktop when the second monitor is on and do that without restart/log off?

Computer Alarm Went Off While Sleeping Then Shuts Down Intermittently

Mar 11, 2012

I have a HP XW8400, Win 7 x64 Ultimate, 8G Fully Buffered memory.Per instructions of my "computer guy", I leave the computer on almost always. I was awaken at 4AM by the "alarm" on the computer, and a black screen with error codes 922, 923 and 927. See attached picture. Having experienced this error before (maybe a year ago) I shut the computer down, carefully cleaned the contacts on the video card, card reader and memory. I also removed the Hauppauge WinTV 1600 card, as I hadn't used that accessory in years.Since reboot, the computer would run fine for about an hour or so, then it would freeze up, accepting no input from keyboard. A few seconds later mouse input would not be accepted, and then the BSOD with error code 0x000000F4. This procedure went on three or four times, but I was able to do some work in the meantime. My computer tech called back and said I should try a system restore. I did that, but now I am unable to boot at all. I tried several times, one time getting a BSOD - type screen, but the characters were unintelligible. It was acting as if someone had shrunk a screen full of type horizontally, "squishing" the letters. As my computer tech is unavailable, I need to attempt to fix the problem myself, as I use this computer about 12 hours or more daily.

Remote Desktop Connection Works Intermittently

Feb 11, 2013

I hired a networking person to enable remote desktop connection between 2 computers for me. The computer I am trying to connect to uses a switch to run internet between 2 computers but I only connect to one of those computers. No-ip is set up on the computer I am trying to connect to to standardize the ip addresses and I am connecting using port 3389. What happens when I try and connect is as follows. If I have not connected for many hours (maybe 5 or more) remote desktop connection will not connect. In order for it to work I have to go to my logmein account and log into the computer there first then after logging out of the logmein connection and waiting a couple minutes I can log in using the remote connection fine. Then, for the rest of the day I can use the remote connection with no problems.

In the morning when I try again, it won't connect, I have to go to logmein once again and then it works. I thought maybe it had to do with a power setting so I created my own power profile and set everything to never sleep, hibernate or do anything except run and run at maximum performance...But that didn't affect it, I still can't log in using remote desktop connection after a long wait. I have also looked in the logs for both my Virus software (AVG) and the computer to see if anything sticks out but AVG firewall log stopped logging in November and I can't seem to reset it and the local cpu event logs don't show any issues with remote desktop connection.

Computer Only Recognizing 2nd Display Via HDMI Cable Intermittently

Aug 5, 2012

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE machine, Windows 7, Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card, connected to an Acer monitor and HDTV. Here's details on my setup:

My Equipment | Building a Home Theater With Your Office PC

My problem is that even though my HDMI cable's plugged into my Radeon graphics card, sometimes the PC only recognizes the Acer monitor and not the receiver (that's connected to the HDMI cable and my HDTV). So I end up having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable several times (sometimes 10+) before it recognizes the HDTV/receiver connection. Is there any setting that would favor the card/PC recognizing the HDMI cable more frequently? I've heard it's a handshake issue, and that maybe using a different type of cable would work. But wondering if there's a setting I could use before switching out cables.

I have ran the windows memory diagnostic program and memtest86, both of which detected no problems. If I re-install the original memory there is no issues. Windows 7 Freezing On HP 630?

Jun 11, 2012

It seems that seven freezing occupies a substantial part of this forum but I cant find anything to help me solve my problem. My wife's laptop started freezing a few weeks ago(keyboard gets red card and leaves the field and mouse goes on strike too). Now uinlike most of the freeze problems on this forum, I still occasionally have programs running in the background(I noticed this while downloading latest drivers with DAP which continued without a bump until the download had completed and still opened a new window asking me if I would like to run the app etc). I as per usual had to switch the machine off and on to get it running again. Sometimes pushing the power button briefly, thereby sleeping the machine, then pressing to wake up is enough to get the ball rolling again but it often comes down to complete power-down/power-up.

The problem started occuring more and more frequently until the machine was barely running for more than 3minutes a time and occasionally didnt make it from boot to login. This screamed hardware to me(I may be wrong as I've been out of IT for over 10 years) so I started all the usual diagnostics which all passed consistently. I have an identical machine and was tempted to start part swapping but decided to leave that until I'd covered the drivers, etc. I checked the Event Viewer and discovered no really informative logs as the recording always seemed to stop a few minutes before the laptop froze. There was almost always an event 41 immediately after restart but I figure this is from forcing power-down! I updated the BIOS to the latest version 33 then did my utmost best to find the latest version of every driver on the machine. I updated the Realtek Audio driver, Intel HD graphics driver, Hard disk Driver etc. ('m not to sure I have all the latest drivers as I ran Radar sync which listed driver versions that neither Microsoft, HP nor Intel have listed on their support sites so I chose the latest drivers between the three sites).I ran the machine in Safemode with Network suport to download and update the drivers and becoming a little impatient loaded two or three drivers at a time before restarting in normal mode to test and the machine never skipped a beat while in Safemode. Now comes the interesting part: I loaded the the Realtek Audio driver and restarted the machine. It froze almost as soon as windows opened and I pulled the power cable and got into bed to continue on battery power. On restart I double checked my drivers and got a few messages that the drivers had not properly installed so re-installed the affected ones. The machine ran in normal mode perfectly for a good five hours (compared to the usual few minutes) and I believed the problem to be solved. The battery was low so I plugged the power cable in to recharge the laptop for my wife and the machine froze instantly! I tested the machine with and without the main power plugged in and the result is the same. Each time the main power is plugged in everything goes south! There is no predicting how long it will run before crashing as it can be anything from 1 second to a few minutes but it never crashes on battery power. I've played around with the power profiles a bit matching the battery profile with the mains-power profile nd visa-verse but nothing changes the end result.

I dont know if there is any relevance in this but my wife with her sharper eye sight pointed out that when the main power is plugged in, moving images on the screen start to wobble slightly shortly before the machine freezes. I could comprehend this being a power or PSU issue on a desktop machine but with the AC/DC converter and battery between the raw power and and the guts of the machine I feel this shouldnt be a problem (though I'll stand to be corrected). To be on the safe side, I have so far swapped power cables between my laptop and the problematic one but swapping the batteries seems a long shot to me and I have a nagging feeling that I'm being side tracked. One thing common to other issues on this forum is an occasional loud buzzing sound from the speakers when the machine hangs(the screen goes black when and only when the buzz occurs) but this is rare. Other than that there is no BSOD and I have almost no common hardware with most machines mentioned in the forum. One thing I havent done yet is reinstall windows. The relation between the main power cable and the crashes makes me feel that it would be a waste of time but I was an IT techy back when CPU's were shipped to clients on flat-bed trucks.
