I have (had) a windows seven home pro laptop, the memory was almost full, it kept freezing, and now it wont load at all. It just comes up with a blank screen. How do I get I into Dos and tell it to load windows? Also, will this work? If not, what else can I do?
View 1 Repliesit's been about a week now and my computer just freezes. and stays frozen. it happens most often when i leave a browser up and walk away from the computer. the only other thing i have noticed happening lately is that i have been getting warnings that my browser is using a lot of memory. it says this when i am running an app on facebook or when i have 2 or more tabs open like in Internet. i am not very familiar with the tools used with windows seven so i did not run high jack this. (i am using internet explorer 8)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI`m having serious problems with my windows 7 machine. It started yesterday when I was getting blank screens. TOday I turned on and its running very slow, freezing up and i noticed an svchost.exe process was using about 6gb of ram. I had to reboot about 5 times just to geta taskmanager up and then it would freeze up again. I tried a windows restore to about 4 days before incase it was some virus but it hasnt fixed the problem. Everything is ok in safe mode and i`ve tried running dr web virus checker aswell as installing norton antivirus and malwarebytes on an old windows xp installation on the same pc but theyre not finding anything.
Really dont fancy having to reinstall windows.

But my problem is that when ever i run windows either of them, I can only see 6gb of ram and of which only 3.5 is useable in x64 and 2.8gb useable in x86. BUT when i installed CPUID's CPU-Z I can see that the whole 8gb of Ram is working, i.e., hardware is fine, but how do i get to see the whole ram and utilize it fully
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I recently bought GTA IV, the minimum graphic memory to run it is around 256MB so as I have 353 MB I decided to give it a try. The entire installation process went on smoothly and when I run the game everything works ok but after the loading process when the cutscene starts the graphics become very horrible. When I checked out the graphics tab it showed me that I was using 256/60 MB. As far as I know my graphic memory is 383 and another surprising fact is that when you over-ride the memory in this game it actually turns the color of the font red 256/60 MB text. When normal green in color) but the color was green. I even tried increasing the setting but it didn't allow me to increase it.

On restart, random issues pop-up e.g. "Windows explorer is not working", "Login services not working (causes me to be logged into a new profile, all settings, icons, wallpaper gone)". I got my laptop about 3 months ago bought it new. Its a HP G7-1365dx windows 7 64 bit laptop. Everything has been fine with until today. I started playing League of Legends then the laptop froze in mid game. I restarted and it froze again while in firefox. I ran virus scans and registry scans and nothing came up there. It is just freezing after I log in. Also weirdly my wifi card disappeared in device manager and showed back up after restarting the laptop again. My need to resinstall or update.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIm having a few problems with my laptop, its an Acer Aspire 5735 and have not long put windows 7 32 bit onto it, it has been working fine for about a week or 2 now and last night i turned it on and it would not start up at all.I have tried starting it up normally but that fails to work, it gets to Starting Windows and just freezes there, nothing happens at all. Also i have tried the Windows Startup Repair (recommended) and that fails to work as well it just gets to microsoft corporation and just freezes there aswell, i have tried booting up from the CD but that fails as well, it gets to loading windows files then freezes at the end again

Sometimes when I let it hang on freeze for about an 20 seconds, the screen goes wierd, like graphics card is gone or something... Sometimes I am on the internet when this happens but not always. Once it freezes I can't get it to start up normally again without out doing a full system restore. I am able to start it in safe mode with no problems that I can tell.

Had to do a hard shutdown, then ran a system restore back to about 2 weeks ago, and a Malwarebytes scan. Still having the issue. Computer runs without issue apparently in safe mode (which I am running now).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've finally decided to make my own thread about this rather than keep looking for solutions in other people's threads. My laptop has been freezing up very randomly since Christmas break, and I've run just about the gamut of ways to fix it. It do not believe it is an application problem because its happening in safe mode even.
What happens is I can be doing nearly anything and the screen will flicker a little bit, a little flashing, and as soon as this starts, everything is frozen, even caps lock is unresponsive. It can happen while surfing the web, while playing games, during start up, just after start up, you name it. I think we can eliminate it being the video card because with the driver uninstall, the problem still happens.
It also doesn't seem to be a problem with CPU because the usage seems to be low when this happens. EDIT: It's definitely not the CPU: I was just observing it while it happened and it was at a measly 4% usage while I was just sitting doing nothing.
Event viewer is of little help, I tried to uninstall several applications that had been running concurrently with the shut downs, to no avail.

The computer is an ASUS brand G60vx series notebook. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I think it will also help to mention that this computer is nearing its 2nd birthday, and I'm highly suspect of the age being a factor. I forgot to mention, also what happens is that the sound playing will become warped and degenerate into a buzzing crackling type noise (can't really describe it beyond that). This leads me to believe its the sound card, but I only have one thing showing up in my device manager the High Definition Audio Device.

The problem I'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, I would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.
I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at
- My house
- Girlfriends house
- and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place
So the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up.
I recently purchased a couple of new Dell Vostro 3700 laptops with Win7 on them in my office. One of them started getting a message about a week ago stating that the machine is low on memory and instructing the user to close all programs and shut down. This does not make any sense to me as it is a brand new machine with 4GB of memory available. Normally I would think the user had too many programs running, but he is getting it even when there are only a couple of programs running.
In the mean time, we purchased another Dell Vostro 3700. I went through the process of getting it set up. After I installed the final program, it gave me the same error message. I removed the program and installed a more up-to-date version. It seems to be working fine. So I figured the other was the same issue. I followed the same steps. It just got the error message agian. There goes my theory.
what could be eating up the memory on a brand new machine?
Sometimes when I try to put my laptop to sleep, all that'll show up is a black screen and I can hear the laptop still running. Then, I'll either wait for my laptop to restart itself or I'll hold down the power button for 5 secs. When I restart my laptop after this problem has occured, there'll be a message saying "Windows has not shut down properly, do you want to run it in safe mode" or something along the lines of that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5732Z that, just lately, started freezing randomly. I've cleaned the registry, there are no viruses, and other than the freezinjg, it's in good shape. When it freezes it either takes a few seconds to get back to normal, shows the blue screen and restarts my computer, or recovers and says "Display Driver stopped responding but has recovered." It's battery has been shot for a while (I am in the process of buying a new one), could that have anything to do with it

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.
I recently purchased a laptop from a company that i used to work for which went into administration. I can log on with my details as normal, but I am unable to install software or complete any upgrades as it keeps asking for Administration password. I have tried calling the IT people that took care of the laptops for this but they are not responding back regarding the password. When I use to have upgrades done the IT people would do this remotely. I have contacted Toshiba, who have said I will need to order a recovery disk, but this will wipe out all data. Does someone know of less drastic action?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving thought I had resolved my laptop with my RAM stuck on 95% after a few minutes, I now notice that when my Laptop freezes, the task manager shows that the process wmpnetwk.exe is running at around the 1.8gb - 2.4gb. I end the process and the laptop starts back up again, but after a few minutes, the process switches itself back on and the laptop freezes again. As a reminder, I am running Windows 7, have a 320gb hard drive and 3gb RAM. The problem looks like it is Windows Media but I cannot remove it as it is part of the Windows operating system. My laptop is a HP DV6-2020SA.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time i clicked on the start menu, opened a webpage or clicked on a file it would freeze , unfreeze after 5 minutes and then.... ye freeze.So it kept freezing, and at times when i tried booting it, i would be faced with a useless black screen.i managed to find my recovery disk and started a " full destructive recovery " using the built in Repair Environment ( re-install basically ).So now that i'd re-installed it, here was me thinking everything would be hunky-dory. Ofcourse, it is not.Already , even after a few days it is showing signs of freezing up again. I'm scared to click too fast or open too many apps incase it bombs out on me. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had issues with this thing for awhile but for the sake of the forum I'l stick to my current issue.Upon startup, everything works fine. I put in my login password and Windows begins to load. While Windows is loading it just reezes. The only thing I can say is it freezes after most of the applications load but it's still searching for networks. Straight freezenothing works. However, and this was weird, out of the 4 or 5 times it froze last night, one of the times I was still able to move the mouse. Nothing else worked though.My drivers should be up to date. I do check them and update them as needed.I do regular checks for viruses and spyware. I use free programs that are updated regularly.I "clean up" my system on somewhat regular basis.I defragment the hard drive on a somewhat regular basis.I clean my registry regularly.I deleted the programs that start up with the computer that I don't need. Winamp, my spyware scanner, and this clean-your-PC program I downloaded (see below) no result I recently got suckered into one of those clean your PC programs that cost like 20 bucks. That's the only major program I've downloaded recently. I did a system restore to before I downloaded that and the same problem occurred.The computer works fine in safe mode. Even "with networking" it connects to the internet just fine.I did just realize I didn't do a virus scan in safe mode last night, I'll do that when I get home tonight. But if you guys know a good free virus scanner to use let me know, otherwise I'll follow up if the virus scan fixes it.

About 3 weeks ago after turning it on, a screen came up saying the cooling fan wasn't working and continued use could result in lost files. I went ahead and continued so I could backup files. Later in the day the fan made a funny noise and then started again. Since then it has been working. A few days ago the laptop started freezing randomly during use. The last couple of days it has been freezing every 10-15 minutes or so. I have to hold in the button to turn it off. I don't know if this is due to the fan maybe not properly cooling the laptop. According to HP my warranty has already ran out (I thought they typically lasted a year?). I imagine it would be cheaper at a repair shop than to send to HP if needed. But before I spent any money, I wanted to see if maybe it was a simple fix I could do myself. I ran startup repair and restored it to a previous day. It didn't fix the problem.

a couple days ago i posted a hijack this log because my toshiba satellite had been freezing and crashing a lot all of a sudden. my kapersky software got rid of a few viruses but it was still running slowly. now my toshiba wont even boot up past the splash screen it just wants to run startup repair. startup repair either takes 5 hours or says it cannot fix. -i cannt do system restore because i didnt have a previous point saved, -i can get into the command prompt thing and when running chkdsk it says 512 bytes in each allocation unit, failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50. 3086 kb total disc space.
