My daughters laptop is starting to be very sluggish and is freezing. We have scanned with Malwarebytes and AVG and there are no traces of viruses. Also for about the past week the wireless mouse seems to freeze as well. Here are the specs of her computer retrieved through Windows System Information.

Have a new Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 than began freezing yesterday. Laptop less than 2 months old. Had to do a hard shutdown, then ran a system restore back to about 2 weeks ago, and a Malwarebytes scan. Still having the issue. Computer runs without issue apparently in safe mode (which I am running now).

Acer aspire 5750 laptop ( about 9 months old )
Wireless Internet with 'excellent' signal strength on internet
Windows 7 Home Premium
The problem I'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, I would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.
I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at
- My house
- Girlfriends house
- and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place
So the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up.

My PC is freezing in Windows 7 x64. Using the mouse or typing control/alt/delete does not work. I use it for Recording music. My software is Avid Pro Tools 8 and Propellerhead Reason 5. I thought one of those was the problem until it froze while I was online and also when I was using Microsoft Word. Almost at anytime it will freeze causing me to press the power button (Hard Reboot). I did a Memory Test, Virus Scan and SCF Scan. I saw on another website that it might be the NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 graphics card. I do not have any Minidumps because I do not get any BSOD errors.
Windows 7 x64
Sevice Pack 1
AMD Phenom II x4 840 Processor 3.20 Ghz
Installed Ram 6.00 GB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 graphics card

A few days ago I was working on a paper and after finishing, as opposed to turning the laptop off, saved the paper and let my laptop go into sleep mode. I've done this before and it's never hurt anything, but the next day when I turned my laptop back on it had troubles starting back up. I eventually had to take the battery out and restart it that way. After that, as the week progressed, my laptop just kept lagging more and more. It got to the point where I would just have to let it sit for twenty or so minutes, and then it would work fine from then on out. Knowing something was up, I decided to see if I needed to download any new updates, which I figured was possible since I just got my laptop back from GeekSquad about a few weeks ago for a different problem, and it was behind on updates then since it had been turned off for three weeks.
So, to cut a long story short, I downloaded the "vaio entertainment platform library updater, version 1.0.2.08150" because my Vaio Update was telling me it was important I have it but it couldn't download it for some reason. The install wizard for it told me I needed to restart my computer, and so I did, and when I turned it back on it got stuck on a black screen. Eventually, I took the battery out so it would offer me the option of going into Safe Mode due to improper shutdown. I did, and tried to use "misconfig" to at least get me back to my desktop. After messing with that for a bit, and using "System Restore" to return my laptop to how it was before I installed the update, I eventually could get back to my desktop. My laptop automatically downloaded three new updates using Windows Update, and it went back to that same black screen when I restarted it, so I had to repeat the whole procedure so I could get back to my desktop, which I finally did.

My computer has never been the fastest (Compaq Pressario CQ56), and due to a recent issue with my McAfee Firewall where by it had turned itself off and would not come back on?I have since run subsequent Anti-malware and virus scans which are all coming up clean, however the computer is still horrendously slow when using IE. Internet Explorer is continuously freezing up, and saying it is not responding, after which I have to recover the webpage.....waiting an eternity for it to do so. Even clicking on a new link results in a wait of between 20 - 50 seconds.

I got my laptop about 3 months ago bought it new. Its a HP G7-1365dx windows 7 64 bit laptop. Everything has been fine with until today. I started playing League of Legends then the laptop froze in mid game. I restarted and it froze again while in firefox. I ran virus scans and registry scans and nothing came up there. It is just freezing after I log in. Also weirdly my wifi card disappeared in device manager and showed back up after restarting the laptop again. My need to resinstall or update.

I have a refurbished laptop with windows 7. It keeps freezing. Typically the computer will be on for 10-15 minutes and then it just stops responding. Sometimes I am on the internet when this happens but not always. Once it freezes I can't get it to start up normally again without out doing a full system restore. I am able to start it in safe mode with no problems that I can tell.

I've finally decided to make my own thread about this rather than keep looking for solutions in other people's threads. My laptop has been freezing up very randomly since Christmas break, and I've run just about the gamut of ways to fix it. It do not believe it is an application problem because its happening in safe mode even.
What happens is I can be doing nearly anything and the screen will flicker a little bit, a little flashing, and as soon as this starts, everything is frozen, even caps lock is unresponsive. It can happen while surfing the web, while playing games, during start up, just after start up, you name it. I think we can eliminate it being the video card because with the driver uninstall, the problem still happens.
It also doesn't seem to be a problem with CPU because the usage seems to be low when this happens. EDIT: It's definitely not the CPU: I was just observing it while it happened and it was at a measly 4% usage while I was just sitting doing nothing.
Event viewer is of little help, I tried to uninstall several applications that had been running concurrently with the shut downs, to no avail.
I'll attach my dxdiag
The computer is an ASUS brand G60vx series notebook. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I think it will also help to mention that this computer is nearing its 2nd birthday, and I'm highly suspect of the age being a factor. I forgot to mention, also what happens is that the sound playing will become warped and degenerate into a buzzing crackling type noise (can't really describe it beyond that). This leads me to believe its the sound card, but I only have one thing showing up in my device manager the High Definition Audio Device.

I have a relatively new HP dvt6 pavilion laptop (quad core intel i7, 8gb of ram), and I've noticed that in the past few months it's gradually gotten slower. Granted, it's still way faster than my old laptop, but I know I likely have more things running than I should. In fact, my process explorer shows no less than 104 processes running, and I would really like to trim this down to about 40 or so. I looked through the msconfig services, but not too much jumped out at me that should be disabled, so I was hoping the wonderful people in these forums could help me out. I've run HijackThis and my log is as follows. I welcome any and all advice about what I should disable or remove with HijackThis or with msconfig.

I made a thread about this about a month ago, but I did everything I was told to do and nothing changed. This laptop is way too slow. The audio is just a big mess from the login screen and onward(really laggy and static-y). I ran some malware stuff and registry repair as suggested, in safe mode and normal mode, but nothing was fixed. After a few hours, I gave up and dual-booted Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked perfectly. Speed was excellent, audio was too. The only problem is I just use PCs for gaming and chatting, and I can't do much gaming with Ubuntu. So, any idea what could be the problem here? I even tried windirstats too see if any huge files that weren't supposed to be there were causing this, because I once had a problem on my own computer where I had this huge file that slowed down everything and wouldn't let me delete it until I did so in safe mode and then everything worked perfectly again.also, at the boot up menu, there are two loaders. one for vista, one for windows 7. windows 7 just starts up 7, while the vista loader goes to some menu thing that looks like it was booted from a disc.1.it has the options to reset to factory settings and format the C: drive 2.has the option to reset, but keep data

Sometimes when I try to put my laptop to sleep, all that'll show up is a black screen and I can hear the laptop still running. Then, I'll either wait for my laptop to restart itself or I'll hold down the power button for 5 secs. When I restart my laptop after this problem has occured, there'll be a message saying "Windows has not shut down properly, do you want to run it in safe mode" or something along the lines of that.

I have an Acer Aspire 5732Z that, just lately, started freezing randomly. I've cleaned the registry, there are no viruses, and other than the freezinjg, it's in good shape. When it freezes it either takes a few seconds to get back to normal, shows the blue screen and restarts my computer, or recovers and says "Display Driver stopped responding but has recovered." It's battery has been shot for a while (I am in the process of buying a new one), could that have anything to do with it

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx
When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

I run a Dell M6500 laptop with Win7.When connecting to the internet it starts downloading "stuff', sometimes after 5 or 10 minutes, which I have no control over or find out where it is coming from. I have disabled auto update and my anti virus etc. If I go to explorer for internet history the files in doc and settings are locked. I have wiped the hard drive twice and started again from scratch, no luck.I tried to load Win XP but it will not load it, is that because it is a Dell? All my software is legal, and my anti virus is updated after notifying me it is doing so. When starting from fresh without any extra programs it does it also.

I'm writing about my friend's computer so I don't have all the info at my fingertips. It's about two years old. I know she has Windows 7 on it. She has been having trouble for a long time with the darned thing not wanting to shut down. I'm going to quote her description to me in an email and hope that someone has some ideas. I'm trying to help her out because she is not comfortable with going into forums and doing this. "It turns off some times right away. But then a few times it sits and waits to shut off. If I close the lid it only shuts down the screen but the computer is still running. Then later it turns back on as I hear the start up tone. Then I can click off again and it shuts down. If I don't turn it off then it shuts down after it use all the power."

The laptop connects to a website and then won't complete the download. The hour glass stays visable for many minutes or until the system times out. Everything ran fine until about 2 weeks ago. Another laptop using the same router runs OK.I completely reformatted the hard drive and installed a fresh upload of Windows. The problem was unchanged.I turned off the popup blocker. No improvement.Sometimes after the website is reached a message appears that the site is unavailable.Could there be a problem with a storage area used to receive the website data no longer being available to receive all of the data required.

Having thought I had resolved my laptop with my RAM stuck on 95% after a few minutes, I now notice that when my Laptop freezes, the task manager shows that the process wmpnetwk.exe is running at around the 1.8gb - 2.4gb. I end the process and the laptop starts back up again, but after a few minutes, the process switches itself back on and the laptop freezes again. As a reminder, I am running Windows 7, have a 320gb hard drive and 3gb RAM. The problem looks like it is Windows Media but I cannot remove it as it is part of the Windows operating system. My laptop is a HP DV6-2020SA.

Every time i clicked on the start menu, opened a webpage or clicked on a file it would freeze , unfreeze after 5 minutes and then.... ye freeze. So it kept freezing, and at times when i tried booting it, i would be faced with a useless black screen.i managed to find my recovery disk and started a " full destructive recovery " using the built in Repair Environment ( re-install basically ).So now that i'd re-installed it, here was me thinking everything would be hunky-dory. Ofcourse, it is not.Already , even after a few days it is showing signs of freezing up again. I'm scared to click too fast or open too many apps incase it bombs out on me. With 4GB RAM and a 2.1 GHZ Processor , freezing up should be the last thing to happen...I have tried virus scans etc, used ccleaner's registry fixer aswell but i can't seem to find the issue.

I've had issues with this thing for awhile but for the sake of the forum I'l stick to my current issue.Upon startup, everything works fine. I put in my login password and Windows begins to load. While Windows is loading it just reezes. The only thing I can say is it freezes after most of the applications load but it's still searching for networks. Straight freezenothing works. However, and this was weird, out of the 4 or 5 times it froze last night, one of the times I was still able to move the mouse. Nothing else worked though. My drivers should be up to date. I do check them and update them as needed.I do regular checks for viruses and spyware. I use free programs that are updated regularly.I "clean up" my system on somewhat regular basis.I defragment the hard drive on a somewhat regular basis.I clean my registry regularly.I deleted the programs that start up with the computer that I don't need. Winamp, my spyware scanner, and this clean-your-PC program I downloaded (see below) no result I recently got suckered into one of those clean your PC programs that cost like 20 bucks. That's the only major program I've downloaded recently. I did a system restore to before I downloaded that and the same problem occurred. The computer works fine in safe mode. Even "with networking" it connects to the internet just fine.I did just realize I didn't do a virus scan in safe mode last night, I'll do that when I get home tonight. But if you guys know a good free virus scanner to use let me know, otherwise I'll follow up if the virus scan fixes it.

I have an HP Pavilion G42-303DX. It's only about 8 months old. About 3 weeks ago after turning it on, a screen came up saying the cooling fan wasn't working and continued use could result in lost files. I went ahead and continued so I could backup files. Later in the day the fan made a funny noise and then started again. Since then it has been working. A few days ago the laptop started freezing randomly during use. The last couple of days it has been freezing every 10-15 minutes or so. I have to hold in the button to turn it off. I don't know if this is due to the fan maybe not properly cooling the laptop. According to HP my warranty has already ran out (I thought they typically lasted a year?). I imagine it would be cheaper at a repair shop than to send to HP if needed. But before I spent any money, I wanted to see if maybe it was a simple fix I could do myself. I ran startup repair and restored it to a previous day. It didn't fix the problem.
