I have a relatively new HP dvt6 pavilion laptop (quad core intel i7, 8gb of ram), and I've noticed that in the past few months it's gradually gotten slower. Granted, it's still way faster than my old laptop, but I know I likely have more things running than I should. In fact, my process explorer shows no less than 104 processes running, and I would really like to trim this down to about 40 or so. I looked through the msconfig services, but not too much jumped out at me that should be disabled, so I was hoping the wonderful people in these forums could help me out. I've run HijackThis and my log is as follows. I welcome any and all advice about what I should disable or remove with HijackThis or with msconfig.
My wifes machine has been running increasingly slowly, and I thought that I would reinstall the OS, and take the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP. I carried out the analysis and the results suggested that it would be OK to upgrade.I have done the upgrade, and in a system that has the bare OS and nothing more, it is running agonisingly slowly - can anyone suggest what I should do to find out why? It could be that the system is not powerful enough to operate - it has the following:

I recently started having trouble with my laptop running very slowly. I ran avg and also Spybot and they came back with no viruses or spyware. I opened the task manager and noticed that it is running at 100% CPU, and assume that is the reason for the lag. I noticed teatimer associated with Spybot S&D was taking up a lot of memory, so I uninstalled S&D and reinstalled it without the teatimer. That seemed to speed it up slightly, but it is still running slow, particularly when trying to play videos or opening programs needing java. I also ran PC tools registry mechanic to scan the registry, clean up the disks and registry, and defrag the registry, but not getting any faster. Looking at the processes in the task manager, the two that are using up the most CPU seem to be connected to my Belkin Router (which I have been using without this problem for several months)kbackupscheduler.exe and Connect.exe go back and forth between 47% CPU and 50% CPU each.consequences of stopping (or removing) them would be
i was looking at a Internet video of how to use hjt and it said to checkmark everything and hit fix; my computer was running perfectly fine 2 weeks ago with games running at 30 fps and really little lag but suddenly has been running extremely slow with long wait times and 2 fps so i decided to follow the video. after hitting fix everything my computer seems to be running a bit better but i'm not exactly sure if anything has been fixed. now my concern is: should i restore back to before i 'fixed' everything?
My laptop has been running extremely slowly lately. It takes longer than usual to load regular programs and any web browser activity takes ages. I have run malware (Malwarebytes) and virus scans (Microsoft Security Essentials) and removed some items. Malwarebytes didn't detect much, but I found a trojan with Security Essentials. However, after removal my problems persist. I have scanned and attempted recovery of bad sectors. Issues were found and fixed, but a disk check was said to be necessary. I tried running chkdsk c: /F, but the disk check cancelled within a fraction of a second on startup.
I know it's not a hardware problem cause the laptop is brand new, but anyway, when I switch between battery power plans whilst using the laptop, pages scroll slower, words erase (with the backspace bar) slower, general things like that.It's not a huge problem I was just wondering what was causing it.
I have a new laptop computer running Windows 7. My problem is I can't install anything I have downloaded. I am trying to install WinRar and it just isn't working.
I am running Windows 7 on a Lenovo T60 laptop. When I try to download files or programs, I constantly get a message stating that there is insufficient storage. I have run disk cleanup and defragged multiple times and deleted everything that I am comfortable deleting with no improvement.
My daughters laptop is starting to be very sluggish and is freezing. We have scanned with Malwarebytes and AVG and there are no traces of viruses. I made a thread about this about a month ago, but I did everything I was told to do and nothing changed. This laptop is way too slow. The audio is just a big mess from the login screen and onward(really laggy and static-y). I ran some malware stuff and registry repair as suggested, in safe mode and normal mode, but nothing was fixed.After a few hours, I gave up and dual-booted Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked perfectly. Speed was excellent, audio was too. The only problem is I just use PCs for gaming and chatting, and I can't do much gaming with Ubuntu.So, any idea what could be the problem here? I even tried windirstats too see if any huge files that weren't supposed to be there were causing this, because I once had a problem on my own computer where I had this huge file that slowed down everything and wouldn't let me delete it until I did so in safe mode and then everything worked perfectly again.also, at the boot up menu, there are two loaders. one for vista, one for windows 7. windows 7 just starts up 7, while the vista loader goes to some menu thing that looks like it was booted from a disc.1.it has the options to reset to factory settings and format the C: drive 2.has the option to reset, but keep data
I run a Dell M6500 laptop with Win7.When connecting to the internet it starts downloading "stuff', sometimes after 5 or 10 minutes, which I have no control over or find out where it is coming from. I have disabled auto update and my anti virus etc. If I go to explorer for internet history the files in doc and settings are locked. I have wiped the hard drive twice and started again from scratch, no luck.I tried to load Win XP but it will not load it, is that because it is a Dell? All my software is legal, and my anti virus is updated after notifying me it is doing so. When starting from fresh without any extra programs it does it also.
I'm writing about my friend's computer so I don't have all the info at my fingertips. It's about two years old. I know she has Windows 7 on it. She has been having trouble for a long time with the darned thing not wanting to shut down. I'm going to quote her description to me in an email and hope that someone has some ideas. I'm trying to help her out because she is not comfortable with going into forums and doing this. "It turns off some times right away. But then a few times it sits and waits to shut off. If I close the lid it only shuts down the screen but the computer is still running. Then later it turns back on as I hear the start up tone. Then I can click off again and it shuts down. If I don't turn it off then it shuts down after it use all the power."
The laptop connects to a website and then won't complete the download. The hour glass stays visable for many minutes or until the system times out. Everything ran fine until about 2 weeks ago. Another laptop using the same router runs OK.I completely reformatted the hard drive and installed a fresh upload of Windows.The problem was unchanged.I turned off the popup blocker. No improvement.Sometimes after the website is reached a message appears that the site is unavailable.Could there be a problem with a storage area used to receive the website data no longer being available to receive all of the data required.
i have a laptop with windows 7 and its become really upon startup, in particular when i click on the mozilla icon.... take foreva. From what i read thus far, i need to switch off programmes that are running on start up but not sure which ones to switch off
Have a new Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 than began freezing yesterday. Laptop less than 2 months old. Had to do a hard shutdown, then ran a system restore back to about 2 weeks ago, and a Malwarebytes scan. Still having the issue. Computer runs without issue apparently in safe mode (which I am running now).
Bought my new ASUS laptop from Best Buy a week ago. Finally having a chance to get started with it. They gave some good advice, to create a back up disk(s) in case any issues arise. This means I will have to get a USB-operated external DVD drive. Not really a problem, I mean I don't mind doing that. But is it not possible to create the same backup disk on a flash drive?
i was on my laptop and it randomly turned black and acted like i shut the lid so basically it went into sleep mode. so i had to close the lid and then open it again to make it turn back on. so after it started working again it started acting pretty strangely i already went into full details on this Internet video by recording it then using the annotations so.
Internet - whats wrong and don't say its a virus 100% sure its not a virus. for the others that dont want to watch the video its basically really glitching i can't click my bookmark page in google chrome i cant grab the scroll bar in ie and the start menu is super glitchy it seems like the code or something is messed up. it goes away sporadically too.
My system is a home built, Core I7, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 TI with 2GB VRAM. Recently upgraded from 4GB RAM.
I was having this same issue with 4GB of RAM. After the computer has been on a bit (hour or two) the memory usage will approach 90% and upwards and things will start to run slowly. I close all active programs, kill all non-essential background programs (dropbox, steam, printer software etc). I look in my processes and no way does it all add up to nearly 8GB of memory.
So my question is, how do I get my computer to run faster? I know WIN 7 uses memory differently than XP did, and I don't care if it wants to use all the RAM, as long as it will run quickly. The problem is, it runs slowly.

I run a Windows 7 64 bit, 6GB Ram, 1 TB, 2GB nvidia card system, that I recently did a factory restore on. It has worked great for the past 2 months since I did so. Until yesterday.All of a sudden, my mouse stops working. It is a wired laser mouse, and the laser wasn't on. I changed it's usb port, and it would try to install it again, and fail. I have no idea why. So, I use my keyboard to restart my computer.The restart takes forever. It took about 6 minutes to get to the windows screen. Still, my mouse doesn't work.But also, now, I have a problem where programs seem to run fine, but if I tab between windows, they maximize/minimize to the tray very slowly. I am not noticing a decrease in performance per say in the programs. (Just played some Guild Wars 2, while running the McAfee stinger, and google Chrome with 2 tabs, with no problem, getting about 50-80 fps while in combat) I looked at my task manager, which showed nothing out of the ordinary for stuff running (AVG antivirus, Chrome, Explorer, as the big ones).I am using AVG antivirus free, which is up to date, and have never had a virus in 10+ years of using it. Scan showed nothing either. All updates from Windows Update are set. I also use msconfig to disable all programs from starting up except AVG.
i'm running win7 here and was wondering if i can tell it to come out of stand by via the USB keyboard/mouse? at the moment, it only comes out of stand by or 'sleep' if i touch the actual laptop keyboard.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit that will not connect to the internet. I can ping websites and get a reply, but Internet Explorer just hangs and I get Not Responding in Task Manager. I have ran Malwarebytes, AVG, and Microsoft Security Essentials. None of these show any viruses. I tried installing Microsoft Fix It, but it would not load. I get the same results if I boot in Safe Mode with Networking.

The thing is, I don't have a Windows installation disc! I was just browsing the internet when my laptop crashed, and now I can't do anything; repair your computer, safe mode, boot from last known good setting, etc. all result in the same error screen.
