Win 7 Support For Seagate Disk
Aug 28, 2009
In Windows 7 RTM I have had trouble with one of my two HDs, a Seagate 300 GB. During Windows 7 installation, installer "could not find drivers" when the Seagate was the first SATA drive. Once the Western Digital drive was set as the first drive, system installed ok.
After installation, the Seagate shows in the Disk Management as 300 GB, but if look at contents with Explorer, it has only 125 GB capacity. Can this be a Seagate firmware problem? (Windows 7 RC earlier had no problems with this drive when the system had Win7RC + Vista + XP.)

After searching the entirety of the internet I have come here to try to resolve my problem. I have a Seagate barracuda 1.5tb 3.5" 7200rpm hard drive which i was previously using to run windows server 2008. I am now trying to use it as an external hard drive for my laptop, however the laptop does not seem to recognize it. I tried using two different cases, three different usb ports, and i confirmed that everything was properly plugged in and powered on. The hard drive does not appear in disk manager, my computer, or the BIOS.

So interested to know what are the support provided by Windows storage stack.

Windows reports that the "A2 Direct Disk Access Support Driver" device is not working properly. The report advises to look in device manager and update the relevant driver - but device manager doesn't show any problems with any hardware.Does anyone know what the A2 DDASD is, what it does and where to find it please?

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional. The problem I am having is that my Seagate Freeagent 1TB drive wont load in Windows 7. I have to keep going to Device Manager and Uninstalling the driver and then plugging it back in so it automatically installs itself and then when I shut down the computer I have to do the process again.
I thought things that worked with Windows Vista were supposed to work with Windows 7.
Any solutions or help on this problem would be appreciated. PS I have already tried installing newer drivers, I have the latest ones, and I know this is a software issue as I am able to access the drive as normal after re-installing it each time.

Recently my PC just randomly crashed and upon restart, would not barely get past POST screen and get stuck on "Detecting IDE Drives...". I isolated the problem to my Seagate main drive. I went into diskpart and tried list disk, but the drive would not even display there. Does this mean my drive is pretty much dead?

Seagate provides a FREE download of their Seagate DiscWizard It is Acronis True Image, but slightly tweaked for Seagate.I have used it many many times for XP, and it is fairly 'idiot proof'.I cannot say the same for Windows 7 Imaging.Creating the image is 'idiot proof'Restoring the image is a mental challenge for me.Say I had just one partition on a drive, and I create an image. When you try to restore an image, you have to choose from three checkboxes
- CMD 100 MB
- OS (your real partition)
- MBR
there should be one box that you could tick to restore my simple one partition drive, BUT THERE AIN'T So I have to decide which of the three checkboxes to tick I would like to tick the lot, BUT YOU CAN'T You can only tick one at a time.I do not know which one to do first. And if that was not enough of a problem, you have to decide whether to make it Active
(Do I make the CMD Active ?)
(Do I make the OS Active ?)
(Do I position the CMD Hard left)
(Do I position the OS hard left)
And if that was not enough of a dilemma, You are given two ways to Restore the other two checkboxes
- You can do a mini reverse (Before allowing the Restore) to tick one more checkbox, OR
- You can Restore each checkbox one at a time.Either way, you still have to decide on making each Active, and 'hard lefting'.Needless to say, I got it wrong, and am about to delete all the partitions (CMD apparently being considered a partition) and try Restoring again.

I recently purchased a usb 3.0 enclosure from silverstone model ts07b and a new 2 tb drive from seagate model ST2000DM001; the usb 3.0 card is from syba model SD-PEX20093. The problem I am having is that when I plug the enclosure into the usb 3.0 slot with the seagate hdd the computer does not recognize it, but when I plug in another 2tb drive from WD (caviar green wd20ears) the computer recognizes it. I know the seagate is not dead because when I plug the enclosure into a usb 2.0 slot the computer recognizes it. Now I need to know what I should replace, should I get a new enclosure or pci card?

I had a 2 TB, and 3TB Seagate Go HDs and decided they would be best used as internal drives, turns out they both crashed completely upon SATA connection in the motherboard, I first guessed probably due to the difference in boot record. Upon reformatting in NTFS, I have found that the drives run very sluggish, I have been debating on just buying a new USB drive and copying my files, then getting rid of these 2 HDs. This doesn't make sense to me as I used to think all HDs were the same, does anyone know any reason why these 2 external drives are killing my system performance after they were made into internal drives (also why would they completely crash before).

Continuing from a previous discussion, I backed up this computer (HP Pavilion desktop 2.7 mhz 6 gig) to my external Seagate hard drive, using Windows 7 backup routine, (after re-formatting the Seagate). Everything has worked just fine.I did a second backup today, and when I went to look at the external drive, it appeared as if no changes had been made (same date as the 1st backup to the 3 files on the disk). So I opened up "Mike-PC" and aha, the next file had today's date. OK, that fine, and total disk space used equals total disk space used on the internal hard drive. So everything's cool, but I wish the backup routine would leave a "last modified" label up front. If I use this same external hard drive to back up my wife's brand new HP laptop, will it clobber my backup, or will it make a new file?

I just purchased a Seagate Go Flex 2TB external drive for backups. It comes with software called Replica(v.5). I have been reluctant to use it due to reports (seen post purchase) that it causes system crashes especially with right click and that it slows system performance terribly. I have a new win 7 pro 64 bit (OEM legal) DIY build system.

I've been having a lot of problems with torrenting lately. I tried to figure out why I kept getting BSOD's from simply installing the torrent applications on my computer. It all started when I needed a new hard drive. I bought a Seagate HDD at Best Buy back in October. After installing everything that I needed to on my computer, I started having problems. I would constantly get blue screens which I couldn't figure out for a long time.
I've got two laptops. The one I'm primarily using is a Samsung QX411 with Windows 7 64-bit and the other is an ASUS X53U with Windows 7 64-bit. Both not running torrents and ended up with constant BSOD's. I took the Samsung in to Best Buy and they told me I had 29 viruses, even with my virus protector giving me no warning of having a single virus on my computer. After downloading uTorrent, I apparently had this weird uTorrent toolbar, which, I believed, at the time, that what was driving the viruses. I've never had a single problem with torrents or uTorrent ever up until now.
I downloaded uTorrent off of their website. I even tried Bittorrent but that ended up with these apparent "viruses" as well. Somehow, this StartNow toolbar, known for vicious viruses, had been added to my computer without my knowledge and this other strange toolbar that gave me a weird homepage with virus ads below a Bing search bar in the center.
Evidently, the new Seagate HDD I bought for the Samsung did fail and I ended up having to get a new one replaced and installed. I lost everything on my computer. Now I'm using a the 2nd new HDD and it's already given me problems with BSODs. I wanted to see if I could transfer the uTorrent over from the ASUS since it's no longer having torrent or blue screen issues instead of downloading it from uTorrent's website and it still gave me another BSOD.
I took it back into Best Buy recently and they told me that I had 49 viruses this time completely out of no where since everything on my computer was completely brand new and they removed uTorrent off of my computer once again. I haven't had a single problem since they removed it but I just don't understand what I can do about the Blue Screening. I can't use these Blue Screen applications to recognize what's causing the problem since every time I get a BSOD, it says failed to create dump files.

I purchased a 2TB Seagate GoFlex Desk External HDD and Windows did not auto-detect it.So I went under Device Manager and under Other Devices, the Seagate drive was listed with the yellow exclamation. It shows that the driver is not found. I had windows search online and it found nothing. The only way I know to get it back is to do a repair/restore of windows? I am afraid to do this as I have to much to risk losing. Is there any other way to obtain this driver. I plugged the device into another computer also running Windows 7 (only home not pro) and it auto-detected right away. So I know for sure the device works. My computer though is most definitely missing the driver.

I utilize Windows7 Home Premium 32-bit and a 500gb SeaGate FreeAgent external. Similarly, I have on numerous occasion deleted files and done some cleaning-up (primarily 'My Documents') to no real success because they all come back after having attached my external.I do not perform a Back-up /or/ Sync anything. I simply connect my external via USB in order to locate a saved document already on the external from previous. This is all I do and at some point (not sure if it is after the next reboot or when exactly) but, all deleted docs reappear.

It wasn't until my 1.5 TB Seagate 7200.11 storage HDD died last week that I found this enormous info on the web about a possible malfunction that rendered these 7200.11 drives useless. Also read about a firmware update released by seagate to fix this problem.
Now going back to last week, I was working with my pc and the drive worked as well as always, then I took it out from the case because I wanted to place it in a new build but the silly me somehow pushed the drive with my elbow while it was on the table and it fell down, performed a couple of spins and finally rested on the carpeted floor. It isn't recognized in 3 pcs so far, not even in the BIOS.
I've read in some forums that you can recover the stuff on the drive by making a usb or serial cable, connecting it to the little pins on the drive and running some commands on a terminal (i.e. Hyperterminal or Putty). This procedure is for 7200.11 malfunctioning drives.
I will try the method described above knowing my drive probably died from the fell and not from a bad factory firmware, but at this point I'm trying anything.

I have replaced my ASUS P8 Z68-V/GEN3 with an Intel Desktop Board DZ77SL-50K and at the same time the primary hard drive has changed from a 1TB Seagate Barracuda to a 3TB Seagate Barracuda. The new system is working fine apart from that the 1TB Seagate Barracuda does not show up in Computer, Disk Management, MiniTools partition management, DiskWizard or anywhere else no matter which SATA cable, SATA port or computer is used. Consequently, I am unable to retrieve any files from the old HDD which is disastrous for my business. How to retrieve any number of files from the unrecognised HDD.

I was playing Mass Effect earlier. Got off because of school, so i put it to sleep. When i returned home, I tried getting on steam. The path wasn't found, so I didn't think anything of it. Rebooted. Still no path, so i go to my slave HDD, and surprise! It wasn't there for some reason. I've looked for it in disk management; no where to be found. Ran seatools, no luck. I had around 300 GiGs on there.I also turned off the laptop, took out the battery, and both master and slave drives for an hour. NOTHING.
EDIT: when i check disk management, it seems there is a drive of some sort on there, but it has no name.. It's blank. Nothing but *Status* has any information: "Healthy (OEM partition)." When i try to right click, the menu only has a "Help" tab.
