Windows reports that the "A2 Direct Disk Access Support Driver" device is not working properly.The report advises to look in device manager and update the relevant driver - but device manager doesn't show any problems with any hardware.Does anyone know what the A2 DDASD is, what it does and where to find it please?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 7 RTM I have had trouble with one of my two HDs, a Seagate 300 GB. During Windows 7 installation, installer "could not find drivers" when the Seagate was the first SATA drive. Once the Western Digital drive was set as the first drive, system installed ok.
After installation, the Seagate shows in the Disk Management as 300 GB, but if look at contents with Explorer, it has only 125 GB capacity. Can this be a Seagate firmware problem? (Windows 7 RC earlier had no problems with this drive when the system had Win7RC + Vista + XP.)

I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that I have read about on the internet. I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has Windows 7 installed. When I use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. why I am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

As I am visually challenged I cannot do hardware upgrades etc, so I got a Techie guy in. We used Zinstall HDD by-the-way and I would highly recommend this application for such a job plus, it is extremely fast.Anyway, while he was diagnosing my boot-up issue he discovered I had a malfunctioning network card; while removing this, he noticed all the SATA settings were set to SATA 2.When he reset these to SATA 3, the PC would not start-up! When he set them again to SATA 2 there was no problem and it worked fine?

In the manuals it's said that to use this printer on windows we need to setup this as the EPSON LQ driver. We have done that and the printer worked fine. After rebooting the machine, the USB Printing Support shows a yellow exclamation mark and the printer doesn't work; using troubleshoot, windows 7 is correcting the issue (Driver not found) and the printer works fine until the machine is rebooted where the problem re-occurs and same cycle again.

I"ve got a several month old Toshiba X505 870 with I5-720CPU, 4GB of memory and TWO Hitachi 7200 rpm 500GB SATA II hard drives. The system is used primarily for initial examination of digital images, with each image being around 20MB (so we're not talking big files). Accessing images to display previews is perceptibly slow. Yes, the system is tuned to the best of my ability, although I'm certainly open to other tuning things I've missed or just don't know. Both disks have been, and are REGULARLY defragmented - both show 0% fragmentation. I've thrown away the original O/S with all the trialware, stupidity, and goop, and installed Windows 7 Home Premius, 64-bit. All the drivers I'm aware of are current, including the Intel storage drivers. Other than the periodic Side-By-Side errors that show up every couple days, I'm NOT getting application or system errors. Both disks are set to the setting for best performance (I can't recall the wording but something like write-delay or whatever)...
In Bridge or Lightroom I"m not getting CPU bound, but this thing beats on the disk(s) quite a bit, and takes MUCH longer than the desktop system to display images. Admittedly, "MUCH LONGER" is probably between .5 and 2 seconds, but it's still a LOT longer than my desktop takes to display the same previews. The desktop is a slightly faster CPU (I7 920), but it also has standard 7200 rpm drives for images, and it's SIGNIFICANTLY faster at retrieving and displaying images in Bridge or Lightroom...Is there any PRACTICAL (no, putting in 2, 500GB SSD drives is not practical) way to speed up disk access on this laptop?

When I "upgraded" though I chose to completly reinstall my OS.Anyways I used to have transparency, but when I try to get that same effect it says "The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."and then when I try to troubleshoot it says "Video card driver doesn't support Aero effects" . I've tried the "Fix it" options, but that doesnt work. I just don't see how transperancy would work on vista but not with windows 7... do I seriously have to purchase a new video card?
