View 1 Replies View RelatedAs title says, my wifi works fine on my laptop but won't work on my computer. This hasn't been an issue previously but I moved house and now can't get on. I've tried two different dongles, changing the channel my router goes on and a new router. The computer connects and says it has internet access but then whenever I try and load a webpage it just keeps loading and never actually brings up the page. Also tried a few ipconfig (flushdns, release and renew) through cmd as I was instructed to by a friend - but now can't think of anything else. Also, it has three out of 5 bars of strength but sometimes when I switch the computer on it doesn't even detect the network at all.

trying to get my wifi working on my Windows 7 x64 computer.
This includes buying two new wireless adapters (which totals the amount to 3) and a week ago, a new motherboard to see if that could sort the problem out.
None of the 3 adapters have been working properly at any point before buying the new motherboard. After that, I actually got the latest addition to function for a couple of days now - that is until I updated to Service Pack 1.nothing works.I tried uninstalling the service pack again... which did the trick.So I can't update my windows if I want a functional computer.Ive found numerous people (around these boards as well) having problems with x64 and wifi but no solutions...
My system:
AsRock Z68 Pro3 with an i5 2500k 3.3 Ghtz processor
8 gb of ram
Asus Pce-n10 wireless adapter
(before that I bought the Linksys Wmp600n adapter which I couldn't get working as well)
Ive tried all latest drivers from manufacturer, even tried latest drivers from chipset manufacturers.
I would like disable/uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on my wireless card.The problem is that it lets me uncheck it, but after rebooting it comes back again.I have seen posts about this using google, but none of them have been answered.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe university I attend doesn't allow modems and routers, but me and my roommates desperately need wifi for our devices, otherwise they are being wasted sitting around. today I set up an ad hoc connection on my roommates laptop, but he brings his laptop places and when he's out, we have no wifi. I have my desktop computer, and I can leave it on all the time and I never leave with it, so I'd love to set up wifi on it, since it will be so much more convenient.I brought my router from home, and ive gotten it to send out my computer's internet connection, but it brings me to the school's registration page, which I can not use, since routers are not allowed. Is there a way to use my desktop's ethernet connection and send out that internet connection through my router (it also needs to bypass the school network, somehow fooling it that my router is my computer (im guessing))?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem since I bought this new computer a few weeks ago. It's a HP desktop, the model number is s5229uk and it's Windows 7 Home Premium.
At random times when I'm browsing the internet, sometimes it can be every 10/15 minutes, sometimes just a few times a day it will stop loading and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark will appear on the connection icon in the bottom right hand corner.
I cannot troubleshoot the problems or open up the network and sharing centre because it either doesn't load at all or freezes, and the only way to reconnect is to hold down the power button as shutting down or restarting fails after about 20 minutes of the shutting down screen.
It's more annoying than anything. I've checked for viruses but nothing came up and the one time it's let me troubleshoot, it's told me to reset the router which I did and it didn't work. I thought it might be a compatibility issue with the router (we use Sky) but some days it works for longer than others.
On the Norton internet history for firewalls and connections I found this which I think might have something to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop the internet from cutting off because me and my Dad are at a loss, and he's quite good at computers.
Another thing is that it won't let me create a system image by backing it up onto an external hard drive, it gets to a certain point and gives me this message: 'The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002) I've tried again and it still doesn't work.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi reformatted my hard drive 3 weekends ago after getting a new ssd. i have my windows 7 and adobe cs5 installed on my ssd. everything else is on my trusty, old hard drive. when i re-formatted, i used an ultimate boot cd > darik's boot & nuke. it took 15 hours! if there was anything naughty on there then i sure as heck was determined to get rid of it.before i formatted i had the occasional internet hiccup (it's comcastic!) but nothing to cry about. but now...i literally can't do anything i used to do.downloading anything takes forever. there's constant hang-ups and time-outs.also i love to play games online, but this problem is causing me nothing but headaches. i've been playing fallout 3 lately and i'm constantly disconnected from windows live/steam because my connection is so poor.if i want to watch a Internet video then i have to have the foresight to buffer for a good time before i want to actually enjoy it. this goes for netflix as well, you can forget about watching anything on there... last night i wanted to watch a video with a friend. it was 12 minutes long. it took me 15 minutes to buffer...at 240p. pathetic right?
using skype is virtually impossible now too. i keep getting slow connection speed errors/messages and my friend and i look like we're 8-bit characters.!but the thing is...i swapped to skype last night on my phone before bed to talk with my friend and the connection seemed absolutely fine. no hiccups or bumps or anything. and the picture seemed crisp as could be (well, as far as my iphone 3gs can get anyway!)i keep getting "no internet access" errors when trying to connect to my router. my parents live across the street. since i used to live with them i still have the code for their internet. i'm using it now because it works better than my connection in the living room. how sad is that?
- searched forums! most everything i find points to spyware/malware/viruses. i could re-format again this weekend but i don't see how it's possible that anything naughty clung to my hard drive after using darik's boot & nuke 3 weekends ago;
- swapped out my router, same undesirable result;
- reset router and modem, that didn't seem to change anything;
- run memtest86, i did this test overnight, 8 hours later and there were 0 errors, so i know my ram isn't the issue...
i might be a bit ignorant when it comes to these things but i'm really at my wits end with this. it's been 3 weeks and i can't seem to figure out why my internet is so unreliable. and i did check on comcast's website, i'm at 80% of the cap for this month. so i haven't gone over.i swapped back to my connection to try and get a speedtest.net reading but i timed out each time after 5 minutes of trying to access that website. and well...i'm back on my parent's connection.
On my laptop which uses wired LAN, I am finding that when it goes to sleep and then I wake it up, the network/internet connection is lost. This began a few days ago when decided to give Windows 8 Consumer Preview a try. I had other issues with Win 8, so I decided to revert back to Win 7, as it used to be, and did a clean install of Win 7 SP1 32-bit, updated all the drivers, installed all the essential windows update. In short, I have a pristine system, running Windows 7 32-bit. But, this LAN disconnect problem, which I only began to notice with the switch to Win 8, came back. The only way for me to get the LAN back is to reboot the laptop. I made sure that in the LAN Adapter setting I have the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi registered to the forum cause i am encountering a problem with my old internet's connection speed on a new computer.i have a 2mbs internet connection which has been enough for me for the past few years. problem is that since i bought a new desktop my connection is extremely slow, Internet videos lag almost instantaneously even on 360p (which didn't happen with the same connection on my old desktop). moreover, downloading from firefox or programs like origin speed seems not to go above 15 or 20 kbps while on my old desktop it reached its limit around 210kbps. as you understand this is extremely annoying, i am suspecting that the problem is hardware related. i am using a modem (the one my isp provided) and an ethernet cable to my desktop. additionally i am using windows firewall and microsoft security essentials.

View 1 Replies View Relatedrunning Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit here. I don't know if this is due to my wifi adapter or the connection or what. I use a wireless connection here, provided by the place we live, the signal is very weak on my desktop. At times when connect to it, it doesn't even load a webpage, but what happens is my mouse skips across the screen, buzzing comes outta my speakers just as the mouse skips, it's like having interference somehow and I just don't get how connecting to the wifi does this, the wifi is really weak, I don't even know why I can't connect, I mean the signal is there, I can connect, but it doesn't load a webpage.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I went to my event viewer, and this is what it says whenever it's happened the last couple of times:
Name resolution for the name dns.msftncsi.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
The client was unable to validate the following as active DNS server(s) that can service this client. The server(s) may be temporarily unavailable, or may be incorrectly configured. 68.94.156.1
And I went back through older logs of when the same thing would happen, and those two were the ones that popped up the most. However, this also popped up from time to time:
Name resolution for the name www.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
Name resolution for the name www.australian-charts.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
Now, I know my way around a computer, but this internet talk is pure "gibberish" to me, for lack of a better word.
Additional information: The connection to my router is wired, not wireless. My PS3 and my laptop can stay connected/have never dropped a connection, while my desktop does it enough that it's beginning to bother me.
I have 3 computers running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
I connect them to a hub and set a workgroup name. Everything is working fine. All of them are able to see each other and access their shared drives.
However, once I unplug internet line (all computers still connect to the same hub), computer cannot see each other and cannot access shared drives anymore. Also, workgroup name is changed to 'Unidentified Network'.
What should I do to connect to a network without internet connection?
I bought a new computer. This is the first time I have used Windows 7 OS. I am wondering if I am having issues connecting to the internet bc of Windows 7. Another computer in the house uses Vista and has no problems. My computer is constantly "not responding". What do I need to do? Should I download a different OS.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a Netgear wireless router and usb adapter 2 years ago and have not had any problems connecting to the internet until I bought a new computer this week. The only thing I can figure is it has something to do with Windows 7 (my old computer ran Windows XP).
Here is what happens.
1. I plug in the adapter.
2. I connect to the internet
3. After about 30 seconds my connection drops.
Here is what I have done to-date (with no success):
1. Turned off Windows Firewall
2. When in to device properties and turned off option for Windows to turn off device for power savings mode
3. Downloaded and installed most recent driver for device.
What is so puzzling to me is that I can actually connect to the internet for a short period of time. That makes me think the router is alright. Is there something in Windows that would break the connection?
