I bought a new computer. This is the first time I have used Windows 7 OS. I am wondering if I am having issues connecting to the internet bc of Windows 7. Another computer in the house uses Vista and has no problems. My computer is constantly "not responding". What do I need to do? Should I download a different OS.
View 3 RepliesI bought a Netgear wireless router and usb adapter 2 years ago and have not had any problems connecting to the internet until I bought a new computer this week. The only thing I can figure is it has something to do with Windows 7 (my old computer ran Windows XP).
Here is what happens.
1. I plug in the adapter.
2. I connect to the internet
3. After about 30 seconds my connection drops.
Here is what I have done to-date (with no success):
1. Turned off Windows Firewall
2. When in to device properties and turned off option for Windows to turn off device for power savings mode
3. Downloaded and installed most recent driver for device.
What is so puzzling to me is that I can actually connect to the internet for a short period of time. That makes me think the router is alright. Is there something in Windows that would break the connection?
I started getting a "DNS not responding"? on my desktop. All my wireless devices work fine, and when I turn off my laptop's WiFi card and plug it into the same router it works as well.I've done some Googleing on the issue and none of what I found has helped.When I do an ipconfig on each maching, the thing I notice is that on the working laptop I have an entry for the "Connection specific DNS suffix under the "Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection", where on the desktop that's not working the suffix is blank.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem since I bought this new computer a few weeks ago. It's a HP desktop, the model number is s5229uk and it's Windows 7 Home Premium.
At random times when I'm browsing the internet, sometimes it can be every 10/15 minutes, sometimes just a few times a day it will stop loading and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark will appear on the connection icon in the bottom right hand corner.
I cannot troubleshoot the problems or open up the network and sharing centre because it either doesn't load at all or freezes, and the only way to reconnect is to hold down the power button as shutting down or restarting fails after about 20 minutes of the shutting down screen.
It's more annoying than anything. I've checked for viruses but nothing came up and the one time it's let me troubleshoot, it's told me to reset the router which I did and it didn't work. I thought it might be a compatibility issue with the router (we use Sky) but some days it works for longer than others.
On the Norton internet history for firewalls and connections I found this which I think might have something to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop the internet from cutting off because me and my Dad are at a loss, and he's quite good at computers.
Another thing is that it won't let me create a system image by backing it up onto an external hard drive, it gets to a certain point and gives me this message: 'The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002) I've tried again and it still doesn't work.
i registered to the forum cause i am encountering a problem with my old internet's connection speed on a new computer.i have a 2mbs internet connection which has been enough for me for the past few years. problem is that since i bought a new desktop my connection is extremely slow, Internet videos lag almost instantaneously even on 360p (which didn't happen with the same connection on my old desktop). moreover, downloading from firefox or programs like origin speed seems not to go above 15 or 20 kbps while on my old desktop it reached its limit around 210kbps. as you understand this is extremely annoying, i am suspecting that the problem is hardware related. i am using a modem (the one my isp provided) and an ethernet cable to my desktop. additionally i am using windows firewall and microsoft security essentials.

And I went back through older logs of when the same thing would happen, and those two were the ones that popped up the most. However, this also popped up from time to time:

Name resolution for the name www.australian-charts.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
Now, I know my way around a computer, but this internet talk is pure "gibberish" to me, for lack of a better word.
Additional information: The connection to my router is wired, not wireless. My PS3 and my laptop can stay connected/have never dropped a connection, while my desktop does it enough that it's beginning to bother me.
I have 3 computers running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
I connect them to a hub and set a workgroup name. Everything is working fine. All of them are able to see each other and access their shared drives.
However, once I unplug internet line (all computers still connect to the same hub), computer cannot see each other and cannot access shared drives anymore. Also, workgroup name is changed to 'Unidentified Network'.
What should I do to connect to a network without internet connection?
I was banned by my computer's ip address from a particular website and I wanted to get around that by changing my computer's ip address. My question is will this mess up my internet connection or do anything else unforseen to my computer?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Windows 7 Pro and populating my HD with the normal games and programs I usually run I decided to test my connection speed on speedtest.net I was shocked to see a barley got even 4Mbps/down and .67 up.My Connecton is usually 23Mbps down and change (I pay for 24) and 4 Mbps up. So I ran the speed test with my laptop, sure enough it was running at normal speed but my new build is not.I tried internet connection optimize in System Mechanic, and that did not have any affect on performance.

I have contacted my internet provider and they say there are no connection problems and all is fine. They think the problem is on the dell unit. The Connection was working about ten days ago and then suddenly stopped and read as an unidentified network no internet access. at one point is was not receiving packets but now it is but it still says no internet access on the IPv4 Connectivity. Media state is also enabled and the speed is 100.0 Mbps when i troubleshoot it says windows cant identify problem but in the details it says default gateway is available. when i use the cmd prompt ipconfig/all my local ethernet adapter has a physical address of all zeros.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using a nokia E66 to connect to the internet at home. My pc at home is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I am currently using nokia pc suite 7.1.40.1. All the software installed without any problems. The problem that I am having is that after I connect to the internet, I can only roughly download / upload about 5MB of data and the connection will time out. I do not get any error messages that is did timeout. The only way I know this is that I stop seeing data being transferred in Network properties.
I then open my e-mail client to see If I can connect with a POP account and then I get an error saying it could not connect to the e-mail account. I then have to disconnect and reconnect and try again. This does not seem to affect web browsing though, only when I am downloading files. Like Steam will start update and stop, windows updates will start download and stop and so on.
I initially thought it was a problem with the network operator, but when I boot back in xp (my pc is set up to dual boot between xp and 7) every thing works fine. No download time outs. Is it the nokia software that is not supporting 7 100% yet or am I missing something else?

When i tried to connect to the internet with my broadband ADSL 2 (using netgear router / modem) it was seamless on the Mac OS but windows running on the mac will not recognize a connection. I have it set to obtain an IP address and a DNS server automatically... Still doesn't work. Also, this happened when I had an iPad in transferring music, and I unplugged my Internet wireless adapter and plugged it into a different USB port, or at least I think that is when it happened. At any rate I got a message saying something about an IP address conflict which I did not pay much attention to.One other detail is that it is not just my computer that can't connect. My iPhone and my friends iPad that I had plugged in so I could transfer music from my iTunes to his iPad cannot connect either..

The other computers in the household do not loose their connections, just the Win 7 one. I can reestablish the connection by doing a reboot or working through the network connection wizard. But, it's a pain in the butt to stop and reboot or spend 15 minutes working through the wizard. My computer is home built(me)with an athlon CPU and 4 megs of RAM. I have 2 other hard drives in this computer with other operating systems on them, Windows XP and Linux(Ubuntu)they do not drop the connection, just the Win 7 drive

The Windows 7 machine connects to the internet through a network adapter and gets its IP adress automatically and works perfectly both in xp and in 7. The Windows 7 machine is connected to the XP Machine via a second adapter (pci) and a crosslinked cable.
Before Windows 7 IN WINDOWS XP the 7 machine used an ip like 192.168.0.1 and ICS to give internet to the second machine (which got its ip automatically)
I tried a lot of things (ex. static fixed ips enable the computers to share files but not the internet connection) but i still keeps saying its an Unidentified Network / Public Network for the second connection (between the computers)
Note: - ICS is enabled for the internet connection.
- Back when both computers had XP the second XP computer obtained its IP Adress automatically and the internet was shared .. with 7 on the second (xp) computer doesnt aquire the right adress ever.
This is a problem that has happened to me a couple of times. Everyone else has connections in my house, even Wifi. I was cleaning my computer and when I was finished, it wasn't working. The thing is I wasn't touching anything besides my front computer fans. What could be the problem? When I go to device manager, it doesn't even show my router. All it shows is some NVidia nForce which doesn't have to do anything with my connection. One thing I do notice is that there is an "unknown device", which I think is my router. I can't update or do anything else because I have no connection. I even reinstalled my computer which usually fixed it.
