Losing LAN Connection When Computer Goes To Sleep
Mar 3, 2012
On my laptop which uses wired LAN, I am finding that when it goes to sleep and then I wake it up, the network/internet connection is lost. This began a few days ago when decided to give Windows 8 Consumer Preview a try. I had other issues with Win 8, so I decided to revert back to Win 7, as it used to be, and did a clean install of Win 7 SP1 32-bit, updated all the drivers, installed all the essential windows update. In short, I have a pristine system, running Windows 7 32-bit. But, this LAN disconnect problem, which I only began to notice with the switch to Win 8, came back. The only way for me to get the LAN back is to reboot the laptop. I made sure that in the LAN Adapter setting I have the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.

I have a problem that has been puzzling and annoying me very much for the past week or so. I have no problem connecting to the network but at random times I lose connection to the internet for a few seconds or a few minuites. I never lose connection to the network though. My playstation 3 has a wired connection directly to the modem as does the computer in the living room, and those units never lose connection. How ever my computer in my room along with my xbox 360, which is also in my room, loses connection wirelessly. My xbox and this computer DO NOT have this problem at other people houses so I'm thinking it must be my router (Linksys E1000). The wireless adapter I have on my computer is a Linksys WMP600N Dual Band. Both the router and my wireless card have the lastest firmware and I have also tried giving my computer a static IP along with the Xbox and forwarding the ports for it. Still does not work for me. I am able to connect to my neighbors internet which has no problems with connection other than the fact that its laggy since i am far from their router. I really dont want to go out and buy a new router so any help anyone could give me would be awesome!

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a machine utilising an Asus M4N82 Deluxe motherboard. I subsequently installed all current drivers for use with Windows 7 64 bit for the Mobo downloaded from the Asus website. Windows 7 itself found current drivers for the peripherals that it supports. For the first few days all ran well without any issues. Then Win 7 ran some updates and now whenever I awake my computer from sleep mode it tells me that the audio driver is not installed. No audio drivers display in Device Manager either. The sound, video, and audio controllers entry is simply gone! A restart brings it back--or has so far--but what is causing it and is there anything I can do? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver to no avail. From web searches this seems to be a common problem with no clear answer which likely means it is an issue with MS at the root of it and unwilling or unable to address it.
I have Win 7 on an SSD. Would it be safe to set the Sleep Mode to never or set a clock screensaver?

I recently purchased a wireless router and we have three laptops and a desktop using it. All other stay connected except my notebook which has windows 7. I also recently downloaded skype to talk to family overseas. Almost every time I am having a conversation, I suddenly lose the connection. However, I lose a connection at other times also. Skype doesn't have to be running for it to lose the connection. There seems to be no ryhme or reason for this. I ran a scan on my virus protection, but it reveals no threats. I am not so computer savvy either, only the basics.

I got a new laptop and using any voice chat program keeps making it lose net connection, finally narrowed that down after trying multiple things. Skype is running but if I use it to talk to someone, connection drops after a few minutes then comes back on after anywhere from a few seconds to longer, does the same thing when using Msn Messenger voice chat.

I have a Marvel Yukon ethernet controller, which is a wired connection only a few feet from socket. For some reason I lose connection at random times? I need to reboot to fix this. In event viewer there is the following:
"Yukonw7 Event 101 Driver status 1".
I am running the latest Marvel drivers by the way.

I have a customer that has just installed a new Dlink N300 router and cable modem internet. He has both a desk top which is hardwired to the router and a laptop which is using the wireless. The desk top does not have any problem with a connection but when he buts the laptop in hibernation it can not find the wireless connection. The odd thing about it is that even though he can not find his own network he can see other networks around him. Any ideas out there on how to solve this issue. This is the second router that we have installed so I am guessing it is not defective equipment.

my computer is a dell laptop Vostro13 with preloaded Windows 7 32 bit. I regularly lose my connection to the workgroup while all 4 other computers do not. i have shortcuts direct to various machines that fail. i can sometimes restart the network by going into the my network places section and it can then connect to the other workgroup computers but sometimes a full reboot is required. this happens sometimes multiple times in a day. i have turned off the power save settings that shut down wifi, i am using built-in wifi connection like the other machines on my workgroup are.

For the last few days of an evening after downloading large amounts of data using Bit-torrent i.e. 70GB, I keep losing my internet connection. I need to turn my super-hub on and off again, but it will keep losing the connection. I have noticed that if I exit Bit-torrent then I don't lose my connection, but I am not sure whether this is just a coincidence. Is this because of the amount of data I am downloading using Bit-torrent and my super-hub is turning off the connection on purpose or is this something else?

I have had this same trouble with my Toshiba, but only at home. When I travel and am at other people's homes, I never have this problem. I wonder if it could be a router or modem issue.

Acer aspire 5750 laptop ( about 9 months old )
Wireless Internet with 'excellent' signal strength on internet
Windows 7 Home Premium
The problem I'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, I would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.
I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at
- My house
- Girlfriends house
- and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place
So the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up.

I recently installed Windows 7 (32-bit). I love everything about it except one major thing that seems to be a common problem, from the research I've done.Whenever the computer sleeps or goes in to standby mode, about 80% of the time when I come out of it, it loses the network connection. I will get one of two messages: "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP address" or "Local area conncetion doesn't have a valid IP configuration." (It's usually the first message).I've Googled this several times and I've tried the fixes. I've tried searching for Bonjour (according to my Services list, it's disabled). I've tried setting the IPv6 off in the TCP/IP settings. I've tried changing the Wireless Adapter Setting's Power Save Mode to Maximum Performance. None of this has prevented this issue from happening.

Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be

I have a computer which, every time it's restarted or turned on, the network icon always had that exclamation point, and it can't connect to the internet. All it needs to do is an IP config release/renew, then disable then re-enable the adapter, and it fixes itself. But upon reboot/restart, it happened again!

Tried all the on-line advice e.g setting power scheme to max power; unticking box in adaptor settings 'Allow computer to turn off this device'.Tried to update drivers for wifi adaptor but the update process says I have the latest drivers. However Dell's driver site analysed my laptop and says there is a later driver for download. Tried installing this but was stopped by message saying it wasn't authenticated/certified so terminated.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
I usually let the laptop go to sleep and when i wake the computer, the wireless connection takes about 2 or 3 minutes to reconnect to the network.
I have another win 7 laptop that connects as soon as it wakes up but this one does not do that. The wireless connects fine when i boot the computer but its just after Sleep and wake.
The wireless symbol right bottom of the screen tells me that there are wireless networks in the vicinity but takes some time to connect; I have set my network to connect automatically if it detects it.

Have a Windows 7 computer running well for 2 months or so, but suddenly, it won't make itself sleep, but has no problem going to sleep with the start menu button. After a lot of Googling, I used "powercfg -requests" in Command Prompt (Admin Mode) and got SYSTEM:[DRIVER] FileSystemsrvnetAn active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine. So I Googled and overrid FileSystemsrvnet with "powercfg -requestsoverride driver srvnet system" and "powercfg -requestsoverride driver FileSystemsrvnet system" (don't know which one worked) but autosleep worked again. The new problem is that the connection will drop while I'm network sharing, which is what the override's supposed to do, right? Is there a better way to fix the insomnia problem?

I would like to set the sleep option for my laptop when on commercial power. I need to know what determines the state in which the computer thinks it's okay to commence sleep. Is it a lack of keyboard/mouse input or is the OS smart enough to understand that an application is running. I do not want the computer to start sleeping while Acronis is performing a timed image backup and I'm fairly certain that Acronis cannot wake up a computer that's sleeping to start its function.

I recently reinstalled windows 7 on my laptop, fujitsu siemens and since then, it no longer goes to sleep (either when I close the lid or when I choose sleep from the start menu). This is very annoying it means i have to shut down the maching everytime i am not using it. The problem is that when i close the lid, the machine pretends to go to sleep for about 10 seconds and then restarts. When I reopen the lid, the machine no longer displays. I have to hold down the power button to force a shutdown and then restart.

1. I have have issues with the computer not sleeping properly for the last couple months. Occasionally, instead of sleeping the screen will turn off but the computer will keep running and none of the keys will work, leaving the computer stuck in this state until I restart it manually or the battery dies.
2. In the last month or so, I started getting BOSDs. Here are the details from the BlueScreenViewer:
==================================================
Dump File : 012113-45443-01.dmp
Crash Time : 1/21/2013 12:56:24 AM
Bug Check String : BAD_POOL_HEADER
Bug Check Code : 0x00000019
[code]....
I've updated all the driver I could find, but haven't tried a clean install yet (I do have everything backed up) and have run AVG antivirus which hasn't come up with anything.

When I try to put my computer to sleep, the screen goes into sleep mode, yet literally nothing happens with my tower. Then after a second or two, the monitor wakes back up and shows the login screen. I've tried checking powercfg /requests and -lastwake, and requests shows "None." across all topics, and lastwake says Wake History Count - 0.

It is a random occurrence with my iPhone and Kindle. When I plug them in, the computer starts going to sleep, but if I keep moving my finger over the touch pad, it will eventually stop. I have 3 USB ports on my Dell laptop and the problem seems to occur randomly with any of them. I have tried new cords and it still occurs randomly. It seems like the drivers are updated and working correctly.
