View 1 RepliesI recently installed Windows 7 (32-bit). I love everything about it except one major thing that seems to be a common problem, from the research I've done.Whenever the computer sleeps or goes in to standby mode, about 80% of the time when I come out of it, it loses the network connection. I will get one of two messages: "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP address" or "Local area conncetion doesn't have a valid IP configuration." (It's usually the first message).I've Googled this several times and I've tried the fixes. I've tried searching for Bonjour (according to my Services list, it's disabled). I've tried setting the IPv6 off in the TCP/IP settings. I've tried changing the Wireless Adapter Setting's Power Save Mode to Maximum Performance. None of this has prevented this issue from happening.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my laptop which uses wired LAN, I am finding that when it goes to sleep and then I wake it up, the network/internet connection is lost. This began a few days ago when decided to give Windows 8 Consumer Preview a try. I had other issues with Win 8, so I decided to revert back to Win 7, as it used to be, and did a clean install of Win 7 SP1 32-bit, updated all the drivers, installed all the essential windows update. In short, I have a pristine system, running Windows 7 32-bit. But, this LAN disconnect problem, which I only began to notice with the switch to Win 8, came back. The only way for me to get the LAN back is to reboot the laptop. I made sure that in the LAN Adapter setting I have the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a computer which, every time it's restarted or turned on, the network icon always had that exclamation point, and it can't connect to the internet. All it needs to do is an IP config release/renew, then disable then re-enable the adapter, and it fixes itself. But upon reboot/restart, it happened again!

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer was infected by a virus which hide all my icons and changed my wallpaper to just solid black, I got rid of the virus fixed the icon issue but i couldn't get the background back. Every time i try to put a picture as the wallpaper an error message comes up saying "this photo cannot be set as wallpaper" and when i try to change the theme the window color at the bottom is the only thing that changes.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI decided to change wallpaper (desktop), but the new one didn't look nearly as good once it was on the computer. So I decided to go back to the previous wallpaper, except it has now disappeared. I've looked everywhere, and have followed various suggestions found on internet (namely on Windows 7 Forums), but to no avail. The previous wallpaper was NOT a pre-installed Microsoft wallpaper, but an image I had directly installed some months ago.I would do a search on my laptop, but cannot remember the title of the photo.Florio

There is only one problem with this, it hides all your desktop icons anyone have an idea how to fix this?
I had my wallpaper set as one that changes every 3 minutes or so. I set it up Wednesday, but yesterday when I put my 2nd monitor on to watch a movie, the wallpaper disappeared and went blank. I thought it did this just because it wouldn't work with 2 monitors enabled, but when I turned the 2nd monitor off in Nvidia control panel, the wallpaper flashed back on for a second and now it stays black. I restarted but it still stays black. Even if I try changing wallpaper in Personalize it doesn't change.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes, when I'm writing an e-mail, I, inadvertently, hit a key that wipes out the e-mail. It isn't saved in drafts and I can't get it back no matter what I do.. What key do I hit that causes this? it's, especially, worrisome when I'm 90% through a long e-mail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought my student copy of Windows 7 now and its coming up on time to install it. The question is this:
I have my OS on a seperate drive from everything else, so is there a way I can reformat and install the release copy of the OS onto the OS drive so that all of my other programs will still work (registry and appdata folder stuff intact I mean), without ending up with a seriously unstable OS because I've reintroduced registry entries and other faults from the old OS?
Please let me know if this is possible, and also if I've made my request clear enough.
This tutorial will show you how to change the desktop wallpaper in Windows 7.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if I posted in the wrong thread. I'm new to this forum. So, no matter which wallpaper I choose, it gets changed to the brown wallpaper(in the architecture section) after I shut down and open the computer for a few times. I don't really know when it gets changed, but it doesn't take any longer than 2 days or so
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running Windows7x64 RTM for about 3 months now. For a couple of days now, whenever i reboot my system it reverts to an old wallpaper i set some time ago. I tried changing the theme & aero border color to see whether it sticks after a reboot & it does!
I checked the group policy settings for any change & didn't find any. I use up2date AV & I'm fairly certain that my system hasn't been compromised. I'm a fairly sophisticated user & find this very annoying.
I have windows 7 home premium running on my compaq (HP) presario laptop. When i select a photo for the wallpaper it stretches it out even if the photo is a potrait one, which means it cuts off heads of people and so on. I have tried going into control panel> appearance and personalisation> personalisation> desktop background> and tried to change the picture position to fit or centre or anything other then stretch but it wont change anything, the wallpaper stays the same. Anyone have any ideas? i have a feeling it may be a problem with windows or something. My dad is running windows 7 home premium on his home pc and i can change the wallpaper settings on it no problem.
View 6 Replies View Relatedim on windows 7 ultimate and i cannot change the wallpaper, all i have is a solid black wallpaper. i followed this instruction but it does not work for some reason.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi use a triple-head configuration with my center monitor specified as primary display. i have made some 3x Wide screen wallpapers, and i set them as the desktop backgrounds. it works fine with one caveat:
the images left most border starts on the center display --the image is triple wide, but the right-most third wraps around the the left display.
any ideas on how to properly center the image? i need the center display to be the primary as certain applications throw a fit when they are run on a non-primary channel.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently however there is a white line that is going through the wallpaper. and now add to that a red line. At first i thought it was my moniter but the lines only go through the wallpaper, they dont appear in videos, when im browsing the internet, or when in game. They are only appearing on that wallpaper. I can change the wallpaper and the lines aren't there. If i change back they are there. So i figured that my image might be corrupted so I went online and looked for the same picture again. I found it twice and both times the lines were there on the picture. Not after I downloaded it, as I found the picture online, on the webpage, before redownloading.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy system is continuously losing space, down to the last megabyte, even without using it. I've tried deleting all but my last system restore point, and even so, that only uses up 15% so I'm told. I've deleted all unnecessary programs down to the bare essential stuff, I've cleared internet history/cookies often, I've deleted gig after gig of my music until it was gone, and I have virus protection software that hasn't brought up anything major. It's not going away in chunks, just megabytes at a time. I've done everything online I can find, and nothing stopped it, what's happening here?
