Running Windows 7 Pro X64.When I right-click a file or folder and select the "Show Versions" option nothing happens.I have to click "Restore previous versions" to get a list.What is the point of the "Show Versions" option?
View 2 RepliesRestore system settings and previous versions of file is greyed out on my system, I may have disabled a required service for this. As I'm about to try the X-Fi MB2 mod again as the last time I tried it my system was messed up that it wont even recognize my actual X-Fi card properly. So I'm thinking a system restore can work with this experiment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
I recently started working with Windows 7 and I haven�t figured out yet how to set a folder to select files to download.When I go to a web form and I want to upload files from my hard drive, in all previous versions of Windows that I worked with, I used to select once the desired folder, pick a file to upload and for all subsequent file uploads, pressing the "Examin" or "Select file" button would take me to the same folder, saving me a lot of mouse clicks if I manually need to upload several files.Since I switched to Windows 7 everytime I want to upload a file, it takes me to the Documents Library and I need to navigate to the desired folder again.

It also does not copy the full file path when you ask it to do so. I don't want to go to classic. My hard drive died in my laptop. I replaced it with a new ssd. For example, you are trying to access a file named "My file.txt", you type "m", "y" and it goes directly to folder or files start withm and y so it's close to My file.txt. This is convenient way to find a file you need.But, it's not the same in Windows 7 anymore. Typing anything will activate the search. It narrows down the files in folder window and it shows many unrelated documents and folders.Is there a way to disable that so I only search by keywords when I press Control-F while typing only takes me to the folder or file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn XP when I chose Folder options and then the File types tab, Folder was listed as a file type (Extension=None). I could select it, click the Advanced button and add a program to that file type. I would add the phrase CommandPrompt connected to the program cmd.exe. This then would allow me to right click on a folder and open the DOS window at that location. A big time saver for the work I do. I cannot find how to do this in Windows 7.

Instead I get a bar on the bottom of the screen that gives the options of "open", "save", or "cancel". When I click "open" nothing happens. When I click "save" a file is saved in my download folder by the name of "utorrent_exe" with no extention. When I try to run it I get a message that asks what program I want to run it with. Oh yeah, by the way, I am running Windows 7 Premium Home Edition.

My problem here is the system runs in a program that is kept in the forground and there is no access normally for the start bar or windows. During the time that the notification icon is in the task bar though it allows them full access to the start bar. Is there anyway to disable this notification icon for the formatting process?Is there a way to auto select like a flash drive for burning everytime. Ok so found out that during a format, which i did a dvd-r to keep the notifcation open longer that i could then modify the notifications and see that process to hide it and it looks like it stays hidden now to not pop the start bar to the front of the program.So now i just need to find a way to auto select like a flash drive for burning everytime.

I have my Contacts List set to show alphabetically starting at A, and until 3 days ago, the Select Recipients box showed in the same order. It's now showing in the reverse order - starting with Z.
So - a problem that I came across in a co-workers Outlook 2003 today was that when they receive an email with 2 (or more) attachments they are unable to Ctrl or Shift select them, right click and send them to print.Now, I find this odd as this was a function available in office 2000 and is available in 2007 and 2010.

Scenario:
I have a folder with 200 audio files of various formats. I want to select only the .OGG files whose filenames start with "A".
On XP:
I would sort by filename, select all the "A" files, re-sort by file type, using CTRL and the mouse, I would then deselect non-OGG files.
When I try this on Win 7 my selections are cleared when I re-sort.s there a setting somewhere that I need to change?
When I click on the "Shut Down" Option on windows,it shows that is shuting down,but nothing happens,I just get that scren with "Shuting down...",and that's all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to copy a file from a failing network drive to another nework drive, and the copy failed midway. Now when I right click on the destination file to attempt to delete it, explorer hangs. If I left click and press the "del" key, explorer hangs as well, and if I go to the command prompt and try to delete the file using the DOS "del" command, the process hangs as well.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. The file is obviously corrput, and I would like to get it off my drive.
How do I select a file and locate all shortcuts/copies of it? I have a personal file on a shared network drive at work. I created a shortcut to my personal file, in order to assign a Keyboard Shortcut to open it. I need to delete the shortcut I created, but leave the original personal file that I have on my shared network drive.
