Uninstall All The Versions And Reinstall The Most Up To Date Versions?

Jul 6, 2010

My question is are these neccessary and why are there multiples? Wouldn't that in itself cause software conflicts? They came from various games off steam and other programs such as drivers and editing software.I don't understand why it stacked so many, I mean wouldn't it be better to uninstall all the versions and reinstall the most up to date versions? I went this route last time and afterwards I got side by side errors. I just don't want software conflicts so I ask the experts here, is it safe to remove these?

Are 64 Bit And 32 Bit Versions On Same DVD ?

Jul 11, 2009

This is a real noob question since I've always got the OS with the new computer and with the Windows 7 beta and RC you always choose the correct .ISO for what you want to run.

I am looking around for Windows 7. I have a gift certificate for an online retailer so will be buying Windows 7 ultimate retail from this place. They don't seem to let you choose between 64 and 32 bit. On the Microsoft site it says "this item includes both 64 and 32 bit" if you buy from them. How could they do this without two product keys? I found this quote from technet forums.

Quote: The DVD will contain the files associated with the Product key. As was seen in previous versions of Windows operating systems, the Product Key will allow the installation of the files designed for the appropriate 32 or 64 bit install to occur. So....how do you know which product key you have?

Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Full - Operating Systems

Is there going to be an option at install for us to choose between 64 bit or 32 bit or am I missing something. I need to make sure I get 64 bit for myself and 32 bit for my friend.

How To Get FOUR Versions Of Win7 X64 From One DVD ?

Dec 1, 2009

I have learned through some investigation that is is possible to get all FOUR versions of Windows 7 x64 OS from ONE DVD!

Here's how to do it:

1. Find a copy of PowerISO and install it on your computer.

2. Download a copy of any Windows 7 x64 OS ISO image or use the original DVD from Microsoft to make an ISO image with PowerISO to your hard drive.

3. Open up PowerISO and use the "Open" option on the menu bar to open up the ISO image file you saved.

4. Browse to the "sources" folder and then find the "ei.cfg" file. Right-click on it and delete it. (If you want to, you can open this file with NOTEPAD and see that all it does is specify which version of Windows 7 to auto install.)

5. Then use the "Save" option in PowerISO and save to the original ISO image.

6. Burn this "altered" ISO image to a DVD at 4X speed using PowerISO or ImgBurn.

7. Now when you use this DVD to install the Windows 7 OS, you'll see in the "Install" window a list of FOUR options to install. They are as follows:

A. Home Basic x64

B. Home Premium x64

C. Professional x64

D. Ultimate x64

Pretty cool, huh? You will still need a GENUINE MS PRODUCT KEY to activate the install though. But we all know that everyone here has that already... right?

These are full and genuine installs, they will update and pass the MS Validation Check also.

Now you can also do the same with the x86 ISO image too. (32bit version) Here's what you'll get with changing that ISO:

A. Home Starter x86

B. Home Basic x86

C. Home Premium x86

D. Professional x86

E. Ultimate x86

I hope y'all will enjoy this little tutorial of mine. Believe me, it works!

NOTE: If you don't have PowerISO, this will also work with UltraISO too!

So, basically what Microsoft has done is use one install DVD for all the different versions of the OS and then use the "ei.cfg" file to lock the install to whatever version is paid for.

Which Keys Activate What Versions ?

Jul 28, 2009

I was hoping for a little clarification as to which keys will activate which versions.I was going to install the E version although I live in the USA.I then came across a list of activation responses while digging around Windows 7 files. The one that caught my eye was:

"The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked for this geographic location"

Will U.S. retail keys be able to activate E versions? Will OEM Certs be bound by geographical location? Or will the above restriction only be applied to Starter,Enterprise editions?

The problem is that when i boot from the usb to install windows 7 it automatically shows Home Premium, no other so i can't pick the one i want. If i boot from the dvd (i created a dvd copy with the file removed too) it presents all versions.

P.S. Yes, I know about the pros and cons in general regarding in-place upgrade vs. clean installation.

NEW Media Center Solutions All Versions

Jun 12, 2011

I have worked w/ techs from all over the world to generate these REAL solutions--they might not solve ALL of your problems but WILL solve some. BEFORE you do anything--verify the correct computer time & time zone. In ALL cases if time or time zone was incorrect--re-install media center. Media center fails to recognize your set-top box or remote. After attempting a manual set-up w/ all possible codes & failure--exchange your set-top box w/ cable company for a different model as media center does not have all the codes within it--if not--borrow one--you will see.Verify the correct computer time and time zone.Media center fails to recocnize your IR cable sensor.Unplug & re_plug the cable. Relocate the IR sensor over the IR receiver on set-top box---use a bright flashlight to locate the sensor.Media center fails to download the correct channel guide

Verify the computer time & time zone. Re-install media center. Verify w/ cable company that you are slecting the correct guide download for your location. Verify w/ your cable company which guide you are viewing on your TV by having them tell you on the phone what program you are & should be viewing--careful--they make mistakes. Try reinstalling media center & selecting a different guide than you think is correct.Media center fails to switch channels automatically to record TV on different channels.Verify the correct computer time & time zone then re-install media center. Media center channel guide download options.Essentially, there are no options--automatic or manual--you cannot change what you selected in the set-up w/ out starting the set-up fresh.Re-set media center guide download to different guide

1st--verify computer clock is set to correct time zone & time--completely re-install media center. This is NOT possible--the ONLY way to accomplish this is to re-install or reset media center--go to settings, tv & start from scratch

Load Two Versions Of Office On Windows 7?

Sep 3, 2011

I am currently running XP and have Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 installed (I work in a training environment hence the need for different versions). I am intending to upgrade my computer and take the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7, but on the point of ordering I was told that I could only run one version of Office with Windows 7 which would make it very difficult for me to work effectively.

I would like to have the latest software as I really need this in the environment I work in but do not want to be limited to one version of Office.

Difference Between SLP And NSLP Versions Of Windows 7?

Apparently, my version of windows is "OEM_COA_NSLP". From my research on the matter, it should read "OEM_COA_SLP".Is it anything to worry about, and if not, what is the difference between "NSLP" and "SLP"? Getting Windows 7 Home Premium Versions?

Apr 1, 2012

I was looking at getting windows 7 home premium and I was looking around and a t someplace like Bestbuy it would be $200 and then at newegg it would be closer to $100. So I was wondering if one version you could install on more than one computer or what. Also I was going to get a SSD farther down the road and I was wondering if I have 7 installed on the regular hard drive do I have to reinstall it on the SSD or what? Also if I have to install it again does that mean that I have to go out and get another copy or can I use the same disc and install on both the hard drive and the SSD, at different time? One final question, if my hard drive was to fail and I didn't have the ssd at this point, and I got a new hard drive but it was different then the first one, but the rest of the computer was the same, could I use that same windows disc to reinstall it one that brand new hard drive or not?

Program Files In Local Language Versions

Dec 21, 2009

Switching over from a Swedish language XP system I'm utterly frustrated with Windows 7 (Ultimate + Sedish language pack).

The localized version of both sytems replaces the "Program Files" folder with a "Program" folder.

In XP that causes no trouble, 95% of all applications happily install themselves into "Program" and run ok there, the few exeptions insist on creating a "Program files" folder but then run happily there.

Not so in Win 7. On the system disk there is a "Program" folder and at least some programs install themselves there, and run ok there. But, if you create a shortcut to a program the shortcut is pointing at C:Program files and changing it to C:Program.. causes an error message when trying to activate the program. This becomes rather confusing when you yourself have to create shortcut addresses.

Some programs have exactly the opposite problem, for example WinZip is on one hand unable to extract a zip file to C:Program files as it cannot find the folder (altough explorer clearly sees such a folder) and on the other hand creates a new, extra, C:Program folder if told to extract to that folder. So then there are two "Program" folders, one pointed at by %ProgramFiles% and another one not pointed at!

Some other programs have the same kind of problems.

What is going on here? Have I missed some step in the language pack installation or has MS managed to break a system that worked perfectly well in XP for years?

Has anyone had similiar problems with other language packs?
