Is there a way to get the DLNA server in Windows to only allow select videos to show up on DLNA devices?
My problem is this; I have thousands of vacation videos that I do not want on the DLNA network - I just would like a few movies and old TV shows. How do I filter out my vacation videos?
My PS3 at one point showed the Windows 7 "DLNA" icon and I was able to stream my music, picture, movies and all that good stuff without a problem. I even have an app on my Android phone called "2player" that would allow me to stream my music from my laptop to my phone (just the way the PS3 would allow me to) but I have come to the terrible discovery that my PS3 nor my android phone are picking up my laptop. I have been to many forums, websites and other means of assistance and it seems that all of my settings are correct, yet I can't seem to find a fix to this issue. I am hoping that someone has good news for me as I have tried just about everything and nothing has worked. Also, I am aware that Windows 7 has an available "play to" option...well my laptop doesn't give me that option.

The USB drive has video files that I stream to my Samsung TV using DLNThe setup works except last night when I copied over .MP4 files to the USB drive. But when I play video (esp HD video - AVCHD light 720p) the playback is very jerky with broken up sound.The videos do play OK on the PC itself in GOM media player.The TV plays BBC iPlayer HD programs fine.So the questions are: 1. I have my Contacts List set to show alphabetically starting at A, and until 3 days ago, the Select Recipients box showed in the same order. It's now showing in the reverse order - starting with Z.
i have an x-fi titanium soundcard with logitech 5.1 speakers that use 3x 3.5mm jacks ive ordered a set of roccat kaves which also use 3x3.5mm jacks.what i would like to know is. is there some kind of cable or a switch box that i can plug all jacks in but select which device i want to use? so i dont have to keep swapping them at the back of my pc. or is the best thing to just use some 3.5mm jack extensions and mount them closer to me. then just swap the cables as and when?

My memory is awful, don't ask.Obviously I know I wouldn't be able to access the files unless the devices were connected, but the point is to make their icons show up as if they were connected even though they won't actually be of any use.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Bluetooth headset. I paired it with my computer, and got everything working fine. The next day, when I resume my computer from hibernation, I find that it's not immediately working. I check the Playback Devices in Sound, and it shows up as "Disconnected". I right click, and attempt to reconnect. Nothing happens. I go to my Bluetooth Devices and remove the device. I pair it again successfully. I go back to Playback Devices, and it still won't connect, so I restart my computer completely, and it still doesn't work. I try reinstalling the driver for the headset, and it reinstalled fine, but now it won't even show up at all in Playback Devices, despite it being paired fine, and showing up in my Bluetooth Devices.

I have noticed that a number of videos in my archive have disappeared. It is not a high percentage of the videos, just one here and there. Diagnostics show nothing wrong with the storage drive, nor anything else that I can think of. At first I thought it must have been due to me accidentally deleting a file, or not really having saved it as I thought that I had, but I now know that is not the case. I'm accustomed to what usually happens when a file becomes corrupted, it just becomes unusable, but still remains visible to the file manager and other programs, but I'm wondering if it might totally disappear?

I am the sole user of the computer, I'm running W7 64bit with a X-Fi soundcard. All other sound works fine and it is hooked up via spdif optical link to a seperate surround sound system.
Therefore, My first question, How do I get the sound to work?
2nd question, even if is or isn't the codec issue, why won't windows update the registry with the codec installation package (1402 error). I am the administrator!
I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere.
The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.I having done a little troubleshooting.1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.Some network background:I have DSL through CenturyLink and have a Linksys E2000 router.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHave been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.

just completed a first-time new Windows 7 PC build. Successful installation of Windows 7 Pro on WD 600GB 10000 system drive. Went back and installed 4 additional HDD. (2) WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM and (2) WD Caviar 7200 500GB HDD from XP system that were used for storage.
BIOS sees all HDDs, but are not viewable in Disk Management.

However, only three are visible in Disk Management. Missing (1) WD 500GB (previously used on WinXP system) and (1) new WD 1T.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
(Which I what I've started calling this product since I'm on my 5th reinstall and probably will get to a 6th.) Anyway so now I have a new issue this time with Live Messenger. I can double click on a contact and it theoretically creates a window so I can talk to them. The problem is that I can't make that new window be visible. If I hover my mouse over the icon in the task bar I can see that it really did create a window so I can talk to my contact but if I click on it nothing happens. (The window stays hidden.) So anybody else see this behavior with Live Messenger in Reinstall

View 4 Replies View RelatedUnder Windows XP, after winning a Freecell game, you coul check the "select game" box in the window askng if you want to "Play Again?" Now, under Windows 7, it just asks "Play Again?" and opens a random game. If you click "Select Game" on the drop down menu, it warns this will count as a loss in the statistics. I don't care that much about the statistics, but I am playing sequential games (I am now on 21210), so I [b][i]always want to select the game number.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 pro as my default OS on a 1T internal hard drive. Some of my games won't work so I partitioned my hard drive 50 gigs, and have installed windows xp on that partition. Of course I inserted the XP disk, went into the bio's and switched the boot order of my computer to CD (for now). Installed xp, and it work. But when I restarted it, It just goes directly to XP, It doesn't give me a list on which Os to boot off of or anything. I went to start and typed in msconfig. and it only saw XP, although there were other things there i did not recognize.
So I inserted the windows 7 disk and restarted computer off disk and selected "repair" and I am back on 7, but I can go back on XP any time I want, (just simple insert the XP disk). Anyways when I'm in windows 7 and I type in msconfig in the search bar, it only see's windows 7 Os, current and default OS. So I have two OS on a partitioned hard drive, no boot selective boot up. And I cant access one or the other without the boot up disk. Is there a way to select which one i want to boot up?
I haven't been able to do this and just assumed that it wasn't possible until I saw this: Select multiple files or folders. This doesn't work on my computer, can other people open Explorer and select more then one folder at a time? I've tried this when I wanted to move multiple folders to an external drive and had to do them one at a time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently did a reinstall of Windows 7 (64 Bit) which went well and everything was working fine until my pc encountered some kind of error last night & rebooted. Since then everytime I shut it down, it just reboots instead. I've tried quite a few things after reading the net but nothing has worked.
I've tried changing power management options in the device manager, looking in the BIOS for anything that looks off and I've just completed another reinstall of Windows but the problem still persists.
The only thing that's not fully up to date are the motherboard drivers as when I download them from the Asus website, I just get a ROM file that I can't seem to use.
