Possible To Select Multiple Files / Folders In Windows 7?
May 14, 2011
I haven't been able to do this and just assumed that it wasn't possible until I saw this: Select multiple files or folders. This doesn't work on my computer, can other people open Explorer and select more then one folder at a time? I've tried this when I wanted to move multiple folders to an external drive and had to do them one at a time.
In this tutorial, we'll show you how you can work with multiple files and folders at once. As you become more proficient using your PC, you may start to create and download a large number of files. When dealing with large collections of files, being able to work efficiently with multiple files and folders can be a huge time saver.
I need to 'extract' .wma files from within many different folders to a single, main folder. It looks like this: Main Folder>Artist>Album>Track (.wma) but there are many artists. I want to get all the tracks from within the two subfolders into a single folder.
I have, today, installed Win 7 on a new computer. I have been using XP until now. I have googled and searched through the forum for an answer to this problem but can't find anything. Either I am the only one that has it, or I am the only one that it bothers
Scenario: I have a folder with 200 audio files of various formats. I want to select only the .OGG files whose filenames start with "A".
On XP: I would sort by filename, select all the "A" files, re-sort by file type, using CTRL and the mouse, I would then deselect non-OGG files.
When I try this on Win 7 my selections are cleared when I re-sort.s there a setting somewhere that I need to change?
I have a set of strings like word1,word2,word3 and I have use these strings one by one.I am using variable option in DOS batch file. I have to use word1 as variable value and word2 as variable second time and word3 third time.
i use BitLord to download random stuff anyways the Downloads Folder Shows up like this : Now when i open Nero up it shows this Weird thing is if i hover over the folder from normal window it says the Downloads folder is only 800mb (as it is only showing me one item) yet from Nero it says the folder is over 9 Gigs. Im set as Owner of the folder and i have all permissions set for me however i am still unable to see these files outside of nero and i don't know why. When i go and try to change the permissions on the folders (the locked ones) windows says the files/folders doesn't exist...
I have windows 7 home premium. If I click on the start then select my user name there are several folders there.Five of them are empty.1563.temp3927.temp3616.temp8201.temp3878.tempWhen I select one of these there is nothing there ''Blank''
I've been using the computer for a really long time but I don't have a clear understanding as to why or how certain OS's are set up the way they are...I'm curious to know why in Windows some of the same folders are stored in multiple places? This has always been an annoyance to me when it comes to organizing and remembering where everything is on my computer. Sure they're are ways to search for things but I feel that still takes up too much time and bottom line there's just gotta be a easier way to access your files. I have multiple computers and it's just impossible for to me remember where everything is.... I could be missing something on how to get a hold of it but anytime I look up how to organize your folders it still doesn't seem efficient to me. I have my own ideas on how I would like it to work or what I would like microsoft to do but I"m not a computer tech person who is able to understand if my ideas would actually even work or not.
I cloned my old laptop hard drive to preserve my documents, movies, applications, etc and I now want to decompress the clone onto my new PC hard drive. HOWEVER my new PC already has Windows 7 installed on a second hard drive in the computer, and my laptop clone was cloned with Windows 7 (it was all on 1 hard drive partition). When I decompress the cloned image will I run into any problems with Windows folders on 2 drives, or can I delete the second windows folder?
My font collection is in need of a radical overhaul. I use High Logics Main Type as my font manager. But that's by the by, this isn't about fonts solely. I've come across the situation where I need to collect all the files together from multiple sub folders before. I want to know the easiest way of extracting all the data from, say, 500+ sub folders, and dumping it all in the parent/a.n.other folder. At the moment, with fonts, it's a piece of pish, I search for ttf files in the main folder with locate32, highlight them all, cut 'n' paste into the new folder. I then use RED 2.1 to delete the empty folders, go back into the parent folder to see what folders are left, open one, get the file extension, use locate32 to search for file extensions in parent folder, and so on and so forth. Easier to do than type, but still a bit long winded. Does anyone know of an easier way or a 3rd party portable app.?
I have a HP laptop with windows 7 home basic, its being two days when i am trying to select a file or folder its getting selected all the above files also of that file or folder.
Anyone seen this before or know what causes it? My mom is suffering from it. I did move her default desktop location to her data drive.
Here you can see the properties. The one on the left is the default location one which appears in explorer but shouldn't. The one on the right is the real desktop that I moved to her data drive. 2 copies appear for the one on her data drive.
I fear I've made a complete mess of things in trying to get this Windows 7 to share media with my devices.
When I click on Start/Computer the left pane shows among other things Network and below that the name of my computer and that breaks out into a bunch of redundant folders. There is no opportunity to delete these folders.
i need to have files in folders for admin staff but need them also in my program folders. it is tedious to modify one then save change to all other folders - this runs the risk of missing a version.is there a way without having to write a macro - or an easy way to do macros in office 2010

I use IMAP for my mail accounts to have on all my machines the same mails. But the disturbing problem with this is that it seems that each mail client uses different folder names fo the same function ...
So I use the webmailer (to see all), MS Outlook (German), Thunderbird (English) Sent mails:sent, Gesendete Nachrichten Junk mails:Junk, Junk-E-Mails Deleted mailstrash, Gelschte Nachrichten
Is there a way to tell them to use the same folders? Also Im wondering is it not possible in IMAP to have a folder hold mails and subfolders?
My Application Folders has multiple coples that seem to keep replicating. I noticed this on a previous wWin 7 computer build. Is there an issues here for is this correct? Also, I want to move my ihone apps to another drive to free space. I'm running File|Library Organize and am copying the apps to a new drive, but don't thing that'll move them.
I'm trying to download multiple files, not from those download sites but these are files full of wallpapers. I've tried the usual 'download accelerators' but they don't work for one reason or another. Is there a download accelerator/plug-in/add-on, etc. That works in Windows 7?
I have a WD hard drive that I have done a full partition on and will not repartition. I have a second drive that I probably can reinstall windows if need be. I have changed a lot with windows 7 I have added different themes, start orbs, explorer frames/navigation, and system icons. The problem is when my wife gets on it, she hates it. So I made a different user account so that it would be her own look and feel. However the icons and other things are changed in hers also. So my question is: is there a way to have each user load their own windows explorer.exe and other system3264 files for each user? Or is there a way that I can have it ask at the begging (much like choosing a user) which drive to boot from? She basically just uses regular standard windows, and I use mine which looks like: [URL] So the start orb and other folders and file icons transfer to hers as well. I know that she would be happy if there was a way that we could each have different looks. Again I do not want to partition my drive to dual boot.
In Windows 7 I have no problem selecting multiple files in a normal folder for example. The problem is when using a program (such as Freestar AMR MP3 Converter) I cannot select multiple files at once. This can make using the program extremely tedious and time-consuming if there are large numbers of files to convert. It is not just this one program that does it, because other programs also fail to allow me to select multiple files. Again, I must state that this only seems to happen when using certain programs and not generally in Windows 7. Also, a small unrelated question: how do I get out of 'Libraries' view in My Documents and basically disable the Libraries view permanently, and just have it normal like in all earlier versions of Windows?
While taking a look around my Windows 7 HDD in Ubuntu, which can see tons of files that Windows won't show you, I went into my user account named "owner" and I saw a bunch of what appears to be Windows Log or preference files. They have long random names and with weird file extensions that Gedit (Like Notepad for Ubuntu but much more advanced) won't open. File sizes range from 0 bytes to 6.2MB with the average size at 64 or 512KB in size. I would like to know if 1. They are logging data and sending it to Microsoft. 2. They are old Preference files that need to be cleared out. 3. Why such crazy file names?
Today I came across the following problem and tried to google for an answer, but without luck. In windows explorer, if I select files with different extensions (for example two files, one txt and one pdf) and right click to bring up the context menu, I noticed that the entry "Open" is missing. Instead if I select files with the same extension, the entry "open" is correctly displayed. What I want to do is to get the "open" command in the context menu even if I select files of different type. Is there a way to do that without having to write my own shell extension handler?
I believe Ive run into a bug with Windows Explorer, however, it could possibly be with Word 2010. If its not a bug, and can be fixed by your helping me, that would be wonderful! (I use Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.) This is what does work just fine: From Word, I open a file, then open another file, then another. I am able to use the CTRL-F6 to move from document to document. This is what does not work: I open those same 3 files from Windows Explorer, by using the mouse to select them and hit ENTER. The files do open in Word. However, the CTRL-F6 keystroke does not work to be able to move from document to document. In the latter, its a little bit as if Windows Explorer is starting multiple copies of Word. However, from the Word icon on the taskbar, both cases look the same, i.e., when I hover over the icon, I can see the 3 miniature files, and can click into any of them. Id like to understand whats going on thats different in the 2 cases. But Id really love to learn of how I can make the latter case work. With my work, I do this process (open multiple files from Windows Explorer) dozens of times a day, and I need efficiency. It takes a lot longer to open each file one-by-one. It also takes longer to not be able to use CTRL-F6.
I have a HD from my now ex-W7 pc which has a whole lot of files and images I need to lift.I have hooked the drive (sata) to my XP pc and tried to access them, but - nsurprisingly - they are not accessible straight off...What steps do I need to take to be able to read and recover these files to my XP machine?
I am trying to share folders on my deskop with my laptop, but I need something that will allow me to edit photos in lightroom on my laptop that are stored on my desktop via Lightroom. Thought that maybe windows 7 "homegroup" feature might allow me to do this, but when I try and setup a homegroup on my desktop it says "Cannot create a homegroup on this computer"Accessing my desktop via logmein.com, to try and set this up. My desktop is currently several miles away, and I need to access those files. I read something about deleting a file in /peernetworking/idstore.sst - Deleted it and rebooted, still get the same error.
ok I tried numerous ways of getting my previous instalation on a newly installed copy of win 7 x64 problem is, I can't see the recovery folder when I use the repair function when I use it under windows 7 ... an error log comes at the end of the process in which MOST of my files and settings are skipped here's what I tried:
-different admin users
-installing a second copy of windows on a different partition and trying to run the recovery with that installation, which didn't work because Windows 7 keeps labeling it's main partition as partition C ... so my main windows partition is labeled differently and the tool can't write the files to their initial paths
-tried a dos tool, copied all the files and folders myself to the normal paths, this didn't work because of errors I'm not an expert, but I get along with computers, now this has deffinetely proven very difficult for me
How do you downrank the priority of folders in a directory when sorting them?I am trying to let folders and files mix when I sort by date, but I get folders on top and files bottom.
