I'm trying to download multiple files, not from those download sites but these are files full of wallpapers. I've tried the usual 'download accelerators' but they don't work for one reason or another. Is there a download accelerator/plug-in/add-on, etc. That works in Windows 7?
View 1 RepliesI just rebuilt my system -- new motherboard, CPU, memory, HDD and OS. My previous hard drive died. Fortunately, everything was backed up onto a portable hard drive using Windows Backup in Vista.
I went with a new full retail version of 64-bit Windows 7 on my rebuilt system. I now need to create the other User Accounts and restore all our files from the Vista backup. I want to make sure I don't mess things up, so I have two questions:
(1) Is there anything I need to do to make sure my Windows settings don't get messed up when I use that 32-bit Vista backup to restore my files onto my new 64-bit Windows 7 system?
(2) There are 4 user accounts on the backup (mine and 3 others). My account was, of course, created during the installation of W-7. Should I create the other 3 user accounts before running Restore, or do they get created automatically during the restore process?
I am using cable internet with a wireless router (NOT DIR-615, a netgear one).From the router settings, I can see which machines are connected, but I cannot see how much they are using the connection resource such as how much they are uploading or downloading.Also, I see a device with a static IP. How does this device getting a static IP?Also, is there any way that I can see which pages are they going to or which files they are downloading?

Ive tried several different files, and have also tried using firefox instead of IE8.
I can neither download files from internet nor Windows player runs properly after installin Windows7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i start downloading large data files with multiple connections (it does not matter which download manager i use - flash get, jdownloader, IDM) it starts to consume a lot of MB until it consumes all of it, but when i close the download manager only about 200 MB becomes free (before downloading started i had used only 900/2048 MB and after closing download manager, it is used ~1800 MB / 2048 MB and there is no program in task manager which would consume such a lot of memory and i can free the ram only by restarting computer. This happens to me on celan RC version and even on clean RTM version.
I have quite a fast conenction 50/50 Mbps so the RAM runs out quite fast (in 15 minutes i have no free ram).
This happens only in Windows 7 (in Vista, XP it downloads without any memory leak using the same download managers)
Does anyone have the same problem or know how to solve it?
I haven't been able to do this and just assumed that it wasn't possible until I saw this: Select multiple files or folders. This doesn't work on my computer, can other people open Explorer and select more then one folder at a time? I've tried this when I wanted to move multiple folders to an external drive and had to do them one at a time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a WD hard drive that I have done a full partition on and will not repartition. I have a second drive that I probably can reinstall windows if need be. I have changed a lot with windows 7 I have added different themes, start orbs, explorer frames/navigation, and system icons. The problem is when my wife gets on it, she hates it. So I made a different user account so that it would be her own look and feel. However the icons and other things are changed in hers also. So my question is: is there a way to have each user load their own windows explorer.exe and other system3264 files for each user? Or is there a way that I can have it ask at the begging (much like choosing a user) which drive to boot from? She basically just uses regular standard windows, and I use mine which looks like: [URL] So the start orb and other folders and file icons transfer to hers as well. I know that she would be happy if there was a way that we could each have different looks. Again I do not want to partition my drive to dual boot.

The problem is when using a program (such as Freestar AMR MP3 Converter) I cannot select multiple files at once. This can make using the program extremely tedious and time-consuming if there are large numbers of files to convert. It is not just this one program that does it, because other programs also fail to allow me to select multiple files. Again, I must state that this only seems to happen when using certain programs and not generally in Windows 7. Also, a small unrelated question: how do I get out of 'Libraries' view in My Documents and basically disable the Libraries view permanently, and just have it normal like in all earlier versions of Windows?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile taking a look around my Windows 7 HDD in Ubuntu, which can see tons of files that Windows won't show you, I went into my user account named "owner" and I saw a bunch of what appears to be Windows Log or preference files. They have long random names and with weird file extensions that Gedit (Like Notepad for Ubuntu but much more advanced) won't open. File sizes range from 0 bytes to 6.2MB with the average size at 64 or 512KB in size. I would like to know if 1. They are logging data and sending it to Microsoft. 2. They are old Preference files that need to be cleared out. 3. Why such crazy file names?

In windows explorer, if I select files with different extensions (for example two files, one txt and one pdf) and right click to bring up the context menu, I noticed that the entry "Open" is missing. Instead if I select files with the same extension, the entry "open" is correctly displayed. What I want to do is to get the "open" command in the context menu even if I select files of different type. Is there a way to do that without having to write my own shell extension handler?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI believe I�ve run into a bug with Windows Explorer, however, it could possibly be with Word 2010. If it�s not a bug, and can be �fixed� by your helping me, that would be wonderful! (I use Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.) This is what does work just fine: From Word, I open a file, then open another file, then another. I am able to use the CTRL-F6 to move from document to document.This is what does not work: I open those same 3 files from Windows Explorer, by using the mouse to select them and hit ENTER. The files do open in Word. However, the CTRL-F6 keystroke does not work to be able to move from document to document. In the latter, it�s a little bit as if Windows Explorer is starting multiple copies of Word. However, from the Word icon on the taskbar, both cases look the same, i.e., when I hover over the icon, I can see the 3 miniature files, and can click into any of them. I�d like to understand what�s going on that�s different in the 2 cases. But I�d really love to learn of how I can make the latter case work. With my work, I do this process (open multiple files from Windows Explorer) dozens of times a day, and I need efficiency. It takes a lot longer to open each file one-by-one. It also takes longer to not be able to use CTRL-F6.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was browsing my user's folder and found I had 9 ntuser.dat files (see attached png file). I have a couple of questions:
1 -- Why does Windows 7 has write so many and with file names so long.
I now each user, including system users such Administrator, etc. have a .dat file allocated to them, however in this test bed I am in a single user configuration. I also know that by default Windows hides these files from the user. I have always been suspect of a company that has to HIDE its product from the user, of course understanding there are a number of Brain-Dead operators out in cyberspace I think it better they hide the computer from them.... LOL.
2 -- If they are no value can they be deleted.
How do I go about opening multiple programs? (selecting the programs and pressing enter only opens the last program chosen)((Right clicking only opens the one that was right clicked))

Win 7 > Windows Explorer > Highlight File (jpg) > Open > Application Launches > Open 2nd File > Opens in NEW application window. I then have 2,3,4,..of the same application running. I want to open and work with the files within the SAME single application window. (using windows explorer)(like I did with XP).

Which files-- Excel (xls), Microsoft Paint (jpg), Corel Photo-Paint (jpg) >> seems like all applications that can open multiple files. It definitely seems like a change to the O/S. Same apps worked fine in XP.
(I would accept a single tweak to get Corel Photo-Paint JPGs to all open in the same app window. I want to go to windows explorer, click on JPGs, and have them all open in 1 instance of Corel Photo-Paint, or any application associated with JPGs.)

Neither does the "Control-A" or click on a file hold "shift" and click on another file work. Also when I attach a single file instead of giving me the progression bar it almost instantly indicated the file is attached.Of course this is irritating as multiple time a day I will send emails with images attached and I have to have this feature working.

In Windows XP, Explorer I was able to select multiple files of different file types, right click and select print. In Win 7 64 bit print is not a choice when I select multiple files of different types. Is there a way to make this work or is it just an option that was left out of Win 7 for some reason?

If you try to delete a file off an additional hard drive (meaning not the primary drive) the system will delete it permanently. It will not ask you to move it to the Recycle Bin, it will just ask if you want to permanently delete the file. Any file on the drive will move to the Recycle Bin with no problem.
Also, files within archives (zip files) will permanently delete even if the archive is on the primary drive.
In Windows 7, is there a way of renaming multiple files, such as: JPG files in ascending order from 1-10,000?

I noticed when I was clicking several jpgs to open in Photoshop, where my default viewer is Google's Picasa (for ease of viewing and convenience). The strange thing is that I can still "Open With" individual files. I thought maybe it was just a Photoshop goof but it applies to Mp3s/Winamp and AVIs as well. This is very inconvenient!

When I run it, it simply very quickly pops up the cmd dialog, which quickly disappears, and nothing is loaded.
I've tried 'running as administrator' - same problem.
File is xxxxx.bat
I've even tried the fail safe:
start /d C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe
and that doesn't work, so it's not a error in my paths... for some reason, it just won't load...
Worked in XP fine...

Basically, end result, want to open two programs with one click (one icon on taskbar).
We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I have a folder with around 2000 files in it. I want to be able to copy certain files from this folder (normally around 40) and place them in a brand new folder, I want to be able to do this with nothing more than a txt file that has all the file names I need copying in it with every file name on a separate line.I receive around 10 new txt files each day so you can imagine how tedious it is searching through 2000 files, picking out the 40 I need, times a day everyday.To make things even more complicated, the txt files I receive don't always have the correct file names in them, maybe there's a misspelling or a word or two missing for some of the names. That's ok when I'm going through picking out the files I need to copy myself because I can normally tell which file is being requested, but I can't see it being so easy for a program or whatever to do, I'm guessing it'll need to have a search feature where it picks out the most likely file.I'd like it to be as automated as possible. I receive the txt file, make sure each file name is on a separate line then a program or script or whatever goes out and picks out the files (or most likely files for the name's that aren't exact matches) and copies them into a brand new folder (which I'd like to be the same name as the text file it's using to choose the files).

It's something I thought could be useful for some people You know how you can shift+right click on items in windows explorer to get added options? Well, the same command works on jump lists, except with some useful added functionality.I remember at least one forum member having mentioned that the reason they misses quicklaunch is that they could drag and drop files onto an app to open said files with said app. Well, although this doesn't completely cover that problem, as you have to use the keyboard, it sure does help.Lets say you have 10 images you want to edit in a program, but you dont feel like opening up the program and then searching for the files, because you already have the folder with the files open in explorer. Normally, if you right click on the item in a jumplist that represents the application itself, you only get a tiny context menu with 3 or four options. I was messing around and saw that if you hold shift while you right click, you will get a full host of options like one might when browsing in windows explorer. So if I want to edit those ten images in GIMP for example, I can select the images, right click and press copy, open the jumplist for GIMP, and hold down on shift while I right click on the GIMP program in the jumplist. Now the right click menu gives me the option to Paste, so I select paste, and voila, my 10 images open in GIMP.
