I fear I've made a complete mess of things in trying to get this Windows 7 to share media with my devices.
When I click on Start/Computer the left pane shows among other things Network and below that the name of my computer and that breaks out into a bunch of redundant folders. There is no opportunity to delete these folders.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy font collection is in need of a radical overhaul. I use High Logics Main Type as my font manager. But that's by the by, this isn't about fonts solely. I've come across the situation where I need to collect all the files together from multiple sub folders before. I want to know the easiest way of extracting all the data from, say, 500+ sub folders, and dumping it all in the parent/a.n.other folder. At the moment, with fonts, it's a piece of pish, I search for ttf files in the main folder with locate32, highlight them all, cut 'n' paste into the new folder. I then use RED 2.1 to delete the empty folders, go back into the parent folder to see what folders are left, open one, get the file extension, use locate32 to search for file extensions in parent folder, and so on and so forth. Easier to do than type, but still a bit long winded. Does anyone know of an easier way or a 3rd party portable app.?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using the computer for a really long time but I don't have a clear understanding as to why or how certain OS's are set up the way they are...I'm curious to know why in Windows some of the same folders are stored in multiple places? This has always been an annoyance to me when it comes to organizing and remembering where everything is on my computer. Sure they're are ways to search for things but I feel that still takes up too much time and bottom line there's just gotta be a easier way to access your files. I have multiple computers and it's just impossible for to me remember where everything is.... I could be missing something on how to get a hold of it but anytime I look up how to organize your folders it still doesn't seem efficient to me. I have my own ideas on how I would like it to work or what I would like microsoft to do but I"m not a computer tech person who is able to understand if my ideas would actually even work or not.

Here you can see the properties. The one on the left is the default location one which appears in explorer but shouldn't. The one on the right is the real desktop that I moved to her data drive. 2 copies appear for the one on her data drive.

HOWEVER my new PC already has Windows 7 installed on a second hard drive in the computer, and my laptop clone was cloned with Windows 7 (it was all on 1 hard drive partition). I have an ATI TV Wonder 650 PCI Express card that can accept input from the following:
* OTA digital signals including High Def. I like the way Windows 7 Media Center integrates OTA channels with the cable channels.
* Cable input from a small STB provided by my cable company for use with older analog TVs not served directly by my main cable STB. I believe this is now the only way I'm able to get regular cable on my computer. Channel-changing is accomplished by the Media Center remote controlling the small STB.
* S-Video and audio input from my main cable STB. With this input, Media Center sees whatever the main STB is tuned to, including Hi-Def channels degraded to S-Video quality. I can even see DVR playback and record it in MC.
I can also record Hi-Def signals on my computer using CapDVHS and a firewire connection. This didn't work under Windows 7 at all until I downgraded the IEEE 1394 driver to the legacy driver. But right now this is a separate issue from my main question, which is:
Is there a way in Windows 7 Media Center to switch easily between the cable input and the S-Video input? I can do this with a few clicks in ATI's MultiMedia Center software under WinXP, but that software doesn't run under Vista or Windows 7. So I'm trying to get Media Center to do the same thing. Sometimes it's easier just to record a Hi-Def broadcast directly via S-Video to edit it for DVD than to capture via firewire and deal with conversion then.
Ideas, anyone?

I use to be able to copy the file into my downloads folder no problem. I did an update a few days ago and now all of a sudden as I am copying them I get file destination name is to long for the folder. I have renamed them and it helps but it sucks doing it when I never had the problem before.Next question I asked on the microsoft forums over a week ago and no answer. My media player has doubles of each album. It really sucks when I am listening to my media player and have to listen to the album twice. I tried taking them out resetting it and at first it only put the first one and then sure enough it redoubled them. I don't know if it is because I have itunes. How can I fix this please? Is it because of itunes? Is it something I just have to live with and choose to use itunes or media player and not have both?

I was wondering if other users with Windows 7 64-bit have the same redundancies? Tempted to delete the x86, any harm in doing so?
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and it's on a network with a Techgear MB902 PVR. I used to be able to watch movies in my Windows 7 shared folders on my TV via the MB902 but after I bought a new PC and installed Windows 7 I've had problems accessing the Windows 7 shared folders.
When I connect to my PC it asks for a login and password, and none of my pc or network passwords work. Strangely enough, when I restart Windows 7 the problem goes away and I can login successfully without a password, but then later the same day or the next day the login/password problem has returned.
I've trawled the internet looking for solutions, and tried all of the plausible looking ones, editing the registry, unsharing and then resharing. They all seem to work but then I realise that it's the reboot that works and not the fixes because the problem returns.
The MB902 has a hard drive and I can access the files on that from my PC with no issues it's just going the other way that I have problems.
I was tidying up my HDD today, and found two different sets of MS Office 2007 help file directories with 4gb of identical content in each. I ran Windiff(x64) on both dirs; they were completely identical.The directories were located here: "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersMicrosoftHelp Library""C:ProgramDataMicrosoftHelpLibrary".Is there some way I can safely remove one of the dirs?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn Windows 7 I installed the xbox 360 extender using Media Center, all my media files show up, but after exiting the extender, all my media files do not show anymore on their default windows folders for Pictures, Videos, and Music. Re-enter Media Center, and I am able to see all my media files, but unable to reach them through my PC, even after exiting again, and using my PC normally.
1- Advance searched my files to no avail, restored WMP library to no avail, restarted several times to no avail.
2- Used old Vista tricks in regedit to no avail, files still don't show up, they only do when I start the extender, and I see them through the extender only.
3- Restored to previous point in history on Windows to no avail.
4- Disabled WMP and WMC in Windows services and features, and re-enabled them, to no avail.
I've had an xbox for several years now. A few years ago I set up my computer to stream music to my xbox. It was cool for awhile and it worked fine, but eventually I just stopped using it. Today I decided I would use it again, but I found that wasn't working. No problem, its been a few years and sometimes settings just get lost. I go out on the web to find a guide again that would tell me how to do it, which led me to [URL]. At the part where I name my library and hit "OK", my "OK" button is grayed out. I know I could try and set up windows media center again. Again, I went to Xbox's support at [URL]. Everything was set up fine and dandy and everything worked.
I get back on my desktop to check something in my "My Music" folder. I get the "You need administrative privileges pop-up", which i thought was weird but i hit continue and it worked fine. Now, whenever i try to open ANY folder, sub-folder, or file, not only does it try to tell me I need admin privileges, once i hit continue it says that i don't have permission to that folder, etc. I think that if I were to go in and reset all the permissions that everything would be fine, but I've got a pretty large library and it could take forever to do that. Is there a simpler way, or a setting that I can change so that Windows Media Center doesn't block me from my own files?
I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]

I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I have been getting a fairly random blue screens and I cannot pin point it myself. I know a bit about diagnosing and repairing issues but this one is just a pain in my butt.
