Upgrade Vista Then Install As Boot Camp On IMac?

Feb 6, 2011

Current state: I have a Dell with Vista HP 64 that hangs alot Near Future State: I fought this problem on my Dell PC / Windows Vista for sometime now and I'm fed up. I'm going to get a iMac and use boot camp to have both Mac OS (Snow Leopard) and Windows 7. Best of both worlds on superior hardware (my and other's opinion, not my point though). Here's my question: I think I'm going to buy Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit full installation (not upgrade) and use that to "upgrade" my Dell with Vista. Then when I get the iMac, I will use that same product to do a new installation of Windows 7 on the iMac (and decommission the Dell). Is this the right approach? I don't think Windows 7 upgrade will work for the iMac part of the plan. Is this true? Will I be able to "move" Windows 7 full install from Dell to iMac?

Boot Camp Windows 7 Resized Partition Now Wont Boot?

Aug 23, 2012

I have a Boot Camped Mac Mini with Windows 7. I recently needed to allocate more disk space to it as i only had a gig left, i booted into MacOS and used Disk Utility to make the Mac partition smaller, i rebooted into windows and downloaded software called 'Partition Wizard' from www.partitionwizard.com. I dragged the Windows partition all the way so that it used up all the Unallocated Space, it required a reboot to finsih and when it did it displayed an error such as thistatus:0xc0000255Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required informationI have the Installation Disk and i have tried repairing more than 3 times and it seemed to do nothing, so i tried using the CMD and bootrec.exe and now when i start the repair wizard it says there is no windows partition yet i can still try repairing things (Yet still does not repair anything). I downloaded EasyBCD but im on my Mac partition right now and its an exe, i have no clue how to run that within windows to try and repair the Bootloader. I do however have access to the BOOTCAMP partition through the mac side, and i can access all the files. Is there some way i can repair the bootloader through this?

Windows 7 On MAC Boot Camp Partition No Sound?

Jun 11, 2010

I have an audio problem that I can't figure out.I installed Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition in my 13" Mac Book. The Mac is not a Mac Book Pro. Its an Aluminum Uni-Body Mac Book purchased new in December 2008. The Mac partition has MAC OS 10.5.5 loaded on it. I have been told by several Apple geniuses that there is no such thing as this model so let me clarify that there is. It has no fire wire port and no back lit keys.
The problem is no sound when booted into Windows 7. Nothing out of the speakers and nothing out of the headphone jack. Audio works fine when I am booted into the MAC OS. I have not tried SPDIF as I have nothing to test it with. In Device Manager everything is fine, working normally and enabled. Speakers Properties are all set to default - 16 bit 44.1Khz sampling rate. Both Exclusive Mode boxes are checked. Enhancements are all off, level is up and balance is at 50 % Left/Right.

Windows 7 Will Not Boot After Upgrade From Vista

Jul 24, 2010

Yesterday I upgraded one of my computers from Windows Vista to Windows 7. After the install completed and the computer restarted, it shows the Windows 7 "Starting Windows" screen and then loaded a black screen after that, and after a long time with the harddrive light blinking, the computer restarted itself and then stuck at the same black screen again.

I tried putting the Windows 7 disk back in the computer and running startup repair, but it said it found no problems.

Vista To 7 Upgrade - Slow Boot Up Time

Nov 19, 2009

I upgraded from Vista to 7 and I noticed my boot up time is very slow. I went ahead and tried the "time your windows 7 boot up" and apparently takes 194 seconds for my computer to boot.

I was thinking maybe if I did a clean install instead of just an upgrade that 7 would work faster but I wanted to know if that would actually be the case before reformatting.

Upgrade From Vista Or Clean Install Windows 7?

Dec 13, 2012

Want to upgrade Vista Home to Windows 7 Premium. The workstation definitely has the horse power for Windows 7.But visiting computer shops, the upgrade options are cleared out or not available and they suggest a new install of Windows 7 Professional, they also say its cheaper than an upgrade $140 vs $250. Windows 8 is not an option at this time.I have very little data or software on the current machine with Vista, but do have Outlook 2010.Will a new install of Windows 7 clean out the hard drive and I'll need to re-install Outlook?

Install Windows 7 Upgrade From Vista With Sound Card Driver Missing?

Aug 13, 2012

Working on a client's computer that was blue screening with Vista 32 bit HP desktop gl309aa. She cannot find the original Vista install CD. I determined that the culprit was probably the wifi driver, and hoped to install updated drivers for that, plus video card and sound card drivers. After much fiddling with the system, I finally got it started through Startup Repair long enough to install the video driver. I had to go through 2 sets of memory diagnostics to start it at all, since even safe mode was not working. When I went to do the sound card driver, it required an uninstall first, so I did that, and foolishly went along with the restart to finish the process. Lacking a sound card driver, it blue screened all over again. Tried everything, including many times with HP Recovery, but every time it blue screens before any process can complete. On top of this, while working on it, she had a power "flash" for a second, and now the system is missing BOOTMGR so it won't even try to boot into safe mode or anything else. I have the drivers on flash but cannot install them. I've decided to forget Vista (awful system anyway) and give her Windows 7 instead. Much more stable, and her data is backed up in case she loses it.

am I going to have any problems installing the Windows 7 if the computer still thinks it has no driver for the sound card? And is there a way to install the file before or during the Windows 7 installation so it will go smoothly? Again, BSOD every time I start HP recovery so there is no way to use that, and we will have a new Windows 7 CD to begin this process.

Win 7 Wont Boot After Install Over Vista

Oct 23, 2009

I currently have a Vista/XP dualboot on my system.

I attempted to install Windows 7 as an upgrade over Vista, thereby keeping my XP.

The install runs fine however on the final reboot the PC no longer boots correctly.

It displays the "Press anykey to boot from CD" timer and then instead of showing the bootloader (as it has been all the way through setup (Choose XP/Windows 7/Earlier Windows)) It simply freezes.

The only way I have been able to make my sytem work at all has been to boot from the Windows 7 dvd attempt to install it again and wait until it forces a reboot at which point the bootloader is visible again and I can get back into XP.

Ive tried the repair option on the DVD and no joy either.

Boot Menu Shows Vista After Clean Install

Sep 21, 2009

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate onto my Vista Ultimate Boot Camp Partition (on my MacBook Pro), rather than an upgrade install.

Windows 7 told me that it would move Vista to a folder called Windows.old or something like that.

Fine. After everything was installed, I used Disk Cleanup to delete that folder, and the space was recovered on my partition

But when booting into Windows 7, I get a boot menu that seems to indicate Vista is still there.

So my question is, can I simply delete Entry 2? Or is there other remaining stuff from Vista still on my drive somewhere that I should also delete? What is the drive "Active Boot Partition"?

I wish Windows 7 gave an option to do a clean install WITHOUT keeping the old system around...The whole point of doing the clean install was to get rid of all the accumulated junk and start fresh.

Custom Install Win7 On XP Pro/Vista XP Dual Boot

Nov 3, 2009

I have just discovered that I cannot do an Upgrade from Vista HP to Win 7 Pro and that I will have to do a Custom or clean install. That will be OK and doesn't cause any problems.

I have XP on one HDD and Vista on another with dual boot. However I want to replace Vista HP with Win 7 Pro 32 bit, ( I intend to go 64 bit later on).

What I would like to know is, will Win 7 replace Vista on the boot sequence (MBR?), so that on booting the PC I have the option of selecting either XP or Win 7, or will I be presented with a boot menu of XP, Vista and Windows 7, albeit that Vista is no longer installed? If the latter, will this cause any problems in selecting the OS that I want to launch i.e the MBR looking for a now non existing Vista and would there be a way to remove reference to Vista?

Can You Install 7 Upgrade From A Dvd Boot Disk?

Nov 8, 2009

I am trying to install windows 7 upgrade from a bootable dvd. I get the prompt to install and then it thinks for a while and comes back with the message:"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

I looked around the web and noticed this was a common issue with Vista, but I cannot seem to get it past this point. I have tried pointing it to any and all possible drivers I can think of for the IDE, SATA, motherboard, etc.

Then I decided to just try it from within windows xp, and it worked. I was able to install everything fine. So my question is if it can be installed from the disk like it appears everyone is saying, or if certain hardware requires it to be done from within windows.

I tried copying the driver folder from the system32 folder after 7 had been installed hoping the needed drivers would be in there, but when I browsed to it, it said no device drivers found.

Any suggestions around this? Is it even necessary? I am wanting a system that would be equivalent to formatting the hdd and then installing. Do I get that by installing within XP and then deleting the windows.old folder?

This is a relatively older Dell XPS 400, although everything worked fine once 7 was installed from within xp.

Install Upgrade, After Final Reboot, No Boot

Nov 26, 2009

I have vista on my first partition, 7rc on the third (second is vista data).

I had read about how you could upgrade from the release candidate and wanted to try it. Everything seemed to go fine, until the very final reboot. (Windows was upgraded to the new version). I saw my regular boot menu again, but then windows restarted the machine one last time, and when it came back up it just sat there, nothing happened forever. And Vista won't boot anymore either - I do not even get a boot menu. Just a blank screen with a flashing cursor, and nothing happening....

I tried the repair options, but windows can't find any of my system restore points (I did set a number of them!) neither vista nor 7. From a command prompt I did try to run bcdedit and it shows that my original boot menu should still be there, but the system is unable to find it. I am completely stumped. Can someone please indicate what to do to get my system to boot?

Unable To Boot Or Perform Upgrade Install

Feb 13, 2013

Recently my PC's registry became corrupted, leaving me unable to boot. As I really want to keep my files, programs, settings etc I would much prefer to do an Upgrade install than perform a Custom one and wipe everything.

However, the Windows 7 disk insists I boot into Windows before performing the upgrade installation, which is the one thing I cannot do due to my corrupt registry. Compatibility Report is as follows:

Compatibility Report

The computer started using the Windows installation disk. Remove the installation disk and restart the computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation disk and restart the upgrade.

This is a frustrating cycle. I can't boot Windows, so I try to perform an Upgrade Install, which I can't do because I have to boot Windows.

Things I've tried:

- Various chkdsk commands, none of which have worked due to my drive seeming to be write protected

- System restore, which I was unable to do as apparently System Protection must be enabled on the drive and I'm unsurehow to do this

- All of the registry repair tools on Hiren's boot CD, all of which are either irrelevant to the problem or have given me error messages

As I have Hiren's CD I can access my hard drive through Explorer, so would it be possible to use Mini XP to attempt the Upgrade Install? If this isn't possible, how else can I repair my registry?
