What Happens To Vista Cd Key After Upgrade ?
I am curious if I need to hang on to my Vista disk indefinitely if I buy the Windows 7 upgrade, in case I need to re-install Windows 7? Does MS keep track of the fact that I have activated as an upgrade? Or will I need to verify that I own Vista again?

Unactivated Vista Key - Upgrade / Exchange Options
I purchased Vista because it seemed to be a great upgrade from XP however I never activated it because of the numerous problems I had. Since then I've read and dealt with so many other people using Vista and having problems I never wanted to try it again. My question is if it would be conceivable that MS would allow me to get a Windows 7 license for a small upgrade price since I've never used my vista license?

I feel Vista was forced upon me yet I had to stay with XP to get my work done. With that in mind I am still willing to pay a little for Windows 7 since it seems to be the answer I am looking for. Any thoughts or opinions would be nice to hear.

Upgrade From Win XP / Vista To Win7: Product Key Language Version
We currently run 3 PCs at home (all 32 bit):

PC 1: German Windows Vista Home Premium
PC 2 & 3: English Windows XP Home

I'd like to purchase the Windows 7 family pack (English) to upgrade all of the PCs (clean install preferred).

Questions:

1. Can all 3 PCs be upgraded to the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with the family pack, despite the different language versions?

2. When performing a clean install, is it sufficient to enter the product key of the previously installed system when using the upgrade disk/key or is the old system required on the harddisk?

3. Just to confirm: The family pack comes with both, the 32 bit and 64 bit version for Windows 7 Home Premium?

Upgrade Path Problem - Win 7 RC To Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Corrupted Win 7 RC Disk - Have Key - Need To Reinstall
I downloaded Win7 RC to my desktop, then burned a disk to use on another machine. The disk loaded correctly the first time, but the hard drive crashed and I when I tried to load it on the new blank hard drive, I get error 0x80070570 during the expanding file phase indicating files were missing or corrupted. Found a thread about that suggesting to burn new disk or use a thumb drive. Unfortunately, I had deleted the download from my desktop and from the thumb drive shortly before.

Now I have a key but can't download the RC any longer. I don't have the cash just yet to purchase and don't have another OS to put on the machine. Is there a possibility of getting RC again since I already have a key for it. Just asking. Won't hold my breath, but I see my only alternative is to buy a discounted Vista from Craigslist or someplace just so I can get going again.

Removing Vista From Dual Boot - Vista On C: And Win7 On D:
I installed Windows7 as a dual boot on a Vista computer. Windows7 is the default operating system because it is listed first in the boot menu & launches automatically after 30 seconds. I realized that everything in Windows 7 is installing under D:etc. When I remove Vista & revert to one larger partition what will happen to all the installed programs that have a path to D:?

Won't the one drive become C:|? When installing Windows 7, I deliberately created a partition at the front of the drive & moved Vista to the 2nd partition assuming that whichever OS I booted into, it would use C: as the letter for their individual partition.

What Actually Happens When You Upgrade From Vista?
I was wondering what actually happens when you up grade from Vista? Do you keep the programs (eg itunes , office) or do they need to be re-installed. Also, do all you documents stay in the same place (like in the music folder) or do they go to another folder?

Upgrade From Vista And Drives
I'm running Vista Business (32 bit, with sp1) and I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (32 bit, from msdnaa). I have two hard drives set up, C and D. I have D for all my data. Now, the option to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista says that I'll get to keep all my files, programs and settings. but what exactly does 'all' mean?

Does it include those in both drives c and d? Will all my data in D stay there and be accessible after upgrading to Windows 7? Also, upon searching here in the forums, I've seen several cases where the upgrade is unsuccessful where it stops at a certain percentage, if this happens, will the operating system revert back to the previous one (in my case, vista) or will i have to install vista manually? and how do i make sure i have a problem free upgrade?

Edit: can i actually do an upgrade? I mean, will the product key for the windows 7 professional work/register successfully after upgrading and not doing a clean install?

HP Laptop Upgrade From Vista
I am trying to install on an HP DV6-1063TX laptop computer.

I have runs upgrade adviser it reports 1 issue although I am not sure what it is,

In the System report I get two notices one about MS Mail & Web filtering and one suggesting a visit to HP website, everything else is green ticked so I don't think there are any serious problems here.

In the Devices section there is a ? againnst the HP DVB-T/Analog TV-Tuner but again all else is green ticked.

In the Software section I get a 'Yellow Triangle !' against Adobe Shockwave Player version 10.2.0.023, everything else has green ticks. The problem is that as far as I can see there should not be Adobe Shockwave version 10 as I have uninstalled not only this program but all the other Adobe software as well. I have tried updating to version 11.5, I have used Adobe's standalone uninstall tool for Shockwave but Windows 7 UGA insists it is still on the computer. I have run CCLeaner but all to no avail. Is this the problem?

On the first attempt I had a problem with HPs Keyboard Filter which I understand is related to the HP Quick Launch Button software, I have uninstalled the software and have upgraded to the latest version.

I have tried the installation 3 or 4 times now with the HP software upgraded or fully installed. Each time the installation goes through all the on-line checks, system checks, file expansion etc... only to find that it fails during the final stage. During the last attempt I had the upgraded Keyboard Filters installed and this again caused a problem so I am going to uninstall the upgraded software and try another install although I hold little hope for success.

The fact that the Windows 7 UGA reports a phantom Adobe Installation leads me to think the problem may be there but I have no idea how to solve this as it is not on the machine.

I would prefer to do the upgrade installation if possible as it will save many hours of software installation (after hours of time already wasted on Windows 7 installation), and I am worried that being a laptop Windows 7 may fail with some of the drivers it does not help that I cannot find this laptop on HPs website even though it was bought just over 12 months ago.

I really want to get rid of this Vista installation and hope that someone here can be of assistance, in the meantime I will be trying one more attempt to upgrade after uninstalling the HP Quick Launch Bitton software.

Upgrade From Vista HP 64 To 7 Pro 64
I was to find that I couldn't do an in place upgrade from Vista Home Premium (64-bit) to 7 Professional (64-bit) after I'd already bought Professional. It seems that I can do an in place upgrade to either 7 HP or 7 Ultimate, but they skipped over Pro.

Is there some workaround for this, or failing that some way to reliably back up my applications and data?

I have already either upgraded the incompatible software, or uninstalled it, so I only have compatible software left on my Vista HP64 system.

Upgrade To Ultimate From Vista HP
I have a new PC with Vista home premium in Spanish. I didn't realize that the voucher given for Win-7 was not valid for Ultimate which I need.

I am unable to find out if I should upgrade or buy the full version.

I believe I have to find out from others first if one allows more than one PC to be upgraded, or something I will miss and regret.

Any advice please a I see some cheap options on Amazon, but there has to be a catch I will not pick up on.

Vista To 7 Upgrade Hangs At 62%
I've been having some difficulty getting the upgrade from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 to happen. Twice I tried it and it hung at 40%, but then I uninstalled iTunes and updated my RAID drivers and it progressed further. Now it's hanging at 62%.

I've seen the article about 62% here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975253, but my log files don't contain that information.

The logs contain a lot of information about not being able to get attributes for this or that directory, but it seems to get past those so it doesn't seem like that's the problem.

A zip of setupact.log and setuperr.log is here: http://tinyurl.com/yh8348h

When it was still getting stuck at 40%, I ran the setup advisor and it told me that iTunes should be uninstalled, and that there was an upgrade available to Steam. I uninstalled iTunes, but I seem to have the most recent Steam client available.

Vista 64 Upgrade To W7 Failure
I decided to upgrade my existing 64 bit Vista installation to W7 instead of a clean install.Installation proceeded smoothly (if about 2.5 hours long!) until the last step which appeared to complete but left me with a blank screen, no reboot, no message. After waiting around 30 minutes, with no disk activity, I decided to reboot. After the "welcome" screen, I had a blank screen with the "evaluation copy" message on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and nothing I could do would give me a desktop display.

Cntrl alt delete worked to enter the Task Manager but canceling brought me back to a blank screen (even the "evaluation copy" mesage disappeared.Safe mode did load and displayed correctly.Does anyone have any ideas as to the "disappearing" desktop? I would be willing to try again if I had some answers (I have reverted to Vista 64 via a backup).

How Many Partitions With Vista To 7 Upgrade ?
I have a question about my 7 upgrade disk, which I will receive in Oct. While upgrading, one question that I will be asked is about the number of partitions or drives that I desire. My choices will show C, D (restoration drive) and E and F (DVD drives). I do not care to multi-boot etc. How do I answer the question? Do I just hit next on the screen, or do I delete D, E and F and then hit next? I of course, after (clean upgrade) I want a restoration drive and DVD drives, just like, I have now on Vista Home Premium. If I delete all but C, will the OS, replace the restoration and DVD drives? How many GB, do I need on C, devoted to 7?

Vista To 7 Upgrade Questions
I am on Vista Home Premium at present. I bought the upgrade to Windows 7. I have two questions:

1) Is it true that when you upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, all of your installed programs basically remain intact and working, or do you have to re-install everything again from scratch? I believe that the documentation in the box said that if you are on XP, you would have to reinstall MS Office and some other programs. What is the situation in upgrading from Vista?

2) Partly in order to find out the answer to the above, I decided to upgrade my laptop first because it has relatively few installed programs on it compared to my PC. I tried on three separate occasions to do the upgrade. On each occasion, it went all the way through to the very end, completing all of the listed steps. However, it then stated that Windows 7 could NOT be installed on this computer and then unwound the entire thing, leaving me with Vista again.

Why, is a mystery to me because when I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it did not highlight any problems that would prevent the installation. Yes, it did point out one printer driver which might not work after the upgrade and advised me to uninstall it (which I did NOT do - might that be the problem?), but apart from that it seemed to be happy with the situation.

3) Do I really need a skilled technician to do this upgrade or can I not just do it all myself? If some major backup and re-installation of complex drivers is necessary, then maybe I need one. But is this really going to happen, or is the whole thing as self-explanatory as it seemed while doing it on my laptop?

Can I Upgrade From Vista To 7 For Free ?
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he mentioned that he upgraded his vista to 7 for free because he bought his new pc in the summer and it came with vista. I also bought a laptop during the summer for school and it came with vista. I've tried searching for this around the Internet but came up with nothing. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, can I still upgrade it? Where exactly do I need to go to upgrade it?
