Upgrade From Vista HP 64 To 7 Pro 64

I was to find that I couldn't do an in place upgrade from Vista Home Premium (64-bit) to 7 Professional (64-bit) after I'd already bought Professional. It seems that I can do an in place upgrade to either 7 HP or 7 Ultimate, but they skipped over Pro.

Is there some workaround for this, or failing that some way to reliably back up my applications and data?

I have already either upgraded the incompatible software, or uninstalled it, so I only have compatible software left on my Vista HP64 system.

Upgrade XP To Pro Using Same Vista Installation
I was running Vista HP and planned to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro before I realized it would require reinstalling programs. So I called Microsoft and cancelled the Windows 7 Pro order and purchased Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade locally. But I'm having problems running all Call of Duty games with hard crashes.

Meanwhile, Windows 7 Pro Upgrade arrived in the mail despite my having cancelled it and I found that indeed, Microsoft billed my credit card. Now, I've a mind to install Windows 7 Pro on my desktop and just do the resinstalls, and then use the copy of Home Premium Upgrade on my laptop. I'm sure I'll have no problem running COD in virtual XP mode on Windows 7 Pro.

So, a couple questions:

- To install Windows 7 Pro, I assume I have to first install my earlier version of Vista? Can I do that if it's already "linked - if that's the correct word" with the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade I've had in place for a couple of weeks and is registered?

- Can I then install the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade on my Vista HP laptop, despite that it has already been registered on the desktop? Or do I need to call Microsoft?

Backup The OS Using Win 7 Pro Before Upgrade From Vista
I spent a lot of money on Vista Ultimate upgrade so I got 2 removable HD. One for vista and one for Windows 7. When I upgraded to Vista, nothing would work and I had a mess. I don't plan on doing that with Windows 7. So when Windows 7 gives me a problem and I don't have the time to fix it I will just slip in my Vista HD and continue working and when I have the time I'll fix the problems which might not be fixable like we don't have the driver yet for Windows 7. So I need the full version of Windows 7 Pro because I want to backup the OS using the backup that the OS supplies. What's the best way to buy the full version because everyone is trying to sell it for October 23?

Upgrade From Vista Ultimate To Win 7 Pro
I am running Vista Ultimate now - but due to features needed, i only need to upgrade to 7 Pro when it is released. If I purchase the Windows 7 Pro option, is this going to work and 'downgrade' me from Ultimate to Pro? Or do i have to purchase the 7 Ultimate upgrade option?

Upgrade From 32 Bit Vista Business To 7 Pro Problem
From some reason, when I go to do an upgrade install from vista business 32bit to 7 professional 32bit I receive an error message saying that you cant do an upgrade install from XP to 7?? Really stumped about this, I think I have read through just about every topic but to no avail.

Doing a clean install is not an option as I have far to many programs and no installation cd's.

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium To Windows 7 Pro
I've been researching online that there is ONLY one way of going to from version to version when upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7. For example, Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium. You technically (In Microsoft's eyes) can't go from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. People bought the $30 Student 7 Professional from DR when it was available, and had Vista Home Premium on their laptop.

Mistake? I don't think so. We are also assuming that you have a legitimate copy of Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional Upgrade. We also assume no liability for any damages or data loss this may occur from doing my tutorial..

First off we need things done before we can do the upgrades. (Yes Upgrades).

1. Backup everything you need saved (Make an image with Acronis or any backup program)

2. Have a copy of Windows 7 (Any edition works, I'll tell you why later)

3. Have a quite some time to do this (Upgrades took a total of probably half a day)

Assuming you did the first 3 steps continue....

So you have a DVD copy or image of Windows 7. Extract the image or copy the disc to a folder on the HD of the computer you are upgrading. We are going to be going from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium as this is the only way we can do it (THANKS MICROSOFT).

View the extracted dvd/image on your HD. You will see a Sources folder, and you will see a ei.cfg. This can be edited with Wordpad or notepad, either one will do fine. Read more at the forum...

Upgrade From Vista Business 32 Bit To Win7 Pro 64 Bit
I have tried to install this software and am unable to do so, either from the unpacked download file, or from the iso file which I created following a thread on another forum.I also tried to install Win 7 Pro using the full retail DVD version I have also purchased and entering the product key I received in the e-mail from Digital River.  Is this because I tried a custom install after formatting the disc drive, rather than an upgrade install?

(And yes I did double check that I was entering the correct product key exactly as shown in the e-mail.)In other words is the product key for an upgrade version of the software different from the full version.  If it is then I will try to install from my retail DVD using the upgrade path which will be easier than trying to get the Digital River software to work.

Upgrade From Win XP Pro Using Vista Upgrade Then To Win 7
If I have WIN XP Pro, can I 1st upgrade to Vista; then Upgrade to Win 7 without 'clean install'. I currently have 4 desk and Laptops with Vista Ultimate (OEM Dell) and 2 desk with Vista Bus and Vista Ult upgrades. However, I have 3 other units with XP PRO and clients with another 20 machines (XP PRO). If we first did a 32 bit Vista upgrade, could we then do a "Windows 7 Upgrade" WITHOUT a clean install to save the human resource time?

Upgrade Win 7 Pro 32 Bit To Win7 Pro 64bit
I upgraded from Win XP to Win7 Pro, but used the 32bit disk. What do I need to do to upgrade using the 64bit version of Win7 pro, (both 32bit and 64bit upgrade disks were sent in my upgrade purchase). Works great but want to try the 64bit version.

Do I need to reinstall WinXP to do a clean install, or can I just use the upgrade version 64 of Win7 without the XP?

XP Pro 32 Bit To Win7 Pro 64bit Upgrade
Can I have the XP Pro 32bit upgrade version and install the Win 7 Pro 64bit upgrade version?
I've not been able to get a clear answer on this.

Please note I'm not trying to run an upgrade from xp to win 7. I know it will be a clean install. That said, will Win 7 Pro Upgrade allow me to install the 64bit version if it sees a 32bit upgrade version of XP? People go off on tangents about upgrade and clean installs.

Custom Install Win7 On XP Pro/Vista XP Dual Boot
I have just discovered that I cannot do an Upgrade from Vista HP to Win 7 Pro and that I will have to do a Custom or clean install. That will be OK and doesn't cause any problems.

I have XP on one HDD and Vista on another with dual boot. However I want to replace Vista HP with Win 7 Pro 32 bit, ( I intend to go 64 bit later on).

What I would like to know is, will Win 7 replace Vista on the boot sequence (MBR?), so that on booting the PC I have the option of selecting either XP or Win 7, or will I be presented with a boot menu of XP, Vista and Windows 7, albeit that Vista is no longer installed? If the latter, will this cause any problems in selecting the OS that I want to launch i.e the MBR looking for a now non existing Vista and would there be a way to remove reference to Vista?

Why Upgrade From XP (Pro) ?
I run Windows 7 on my ex-Vista laptop, and would bite off someones hand if it I had to revert. But on my desktop, I dual boot XP and Windows 7, and am just as happy using XP as Windows 7. There are a few things I like prefer in Windows 7, but the same is true for XP.

M$ is already charging me to replace the piece of @@@@ that was Vista with Windows 7, why would I want to pay to upgrade XP? And the Pro upgrade price is OUTRAGEOUS, especially as I am based I the UK.

Cant Upgrade From Home To Pro
I initially purchased and installed Home Premium on my machine. I then found an issue due to running files on a work PC that I am connected to with a VPN. So, my network admin sent me our corporate copy of Win 7 Pro to install.

When I try to install it I get stopped during the process and I am told to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade. When I search and run the app it asks me to supply an Anytime Upgrade serial number or go online to buy an Anytime Upgrade. To upgrade to the Pro version it's like $85.

Can't I just run the install and have it install what I need to make it a Pro version without having to do a clean install? How can I upgrade? When I had XP home a long time ago I was able to upgrade to Pro by just installing Pro on top of it.

The serial numbers of the two versions are different because I had originally purchased and did a clean install with the Home version and then I got a new DVD and serial number for my works Pro version.

Home Or Pro Upgrade
I've been running Win 7 rc1 (7100) ever since it came out.

Should I buy Win 7 Pro or Win 7 Home upgrade?

Which version would you buy?

I have Vista Ultimate, but that was a joke and a waste.

Also, when I buy the upgrade, can I install on top of rc1, or do I have to clean install 7 and have a valid number for Vista?

I looked into the features of each version and I should only need Home Premium.

Am I able to purchase a Windows 7 Upgrade instead of a full license?

Upgrade To Pro From RC2 Ultimate
Since I have Ultimate RC2 on my laptop and my desktop, I am concerned that if I get the upgrade that I have a deal for to Windows 7 Pro, I'm guessing it won't work because the RC2 is Ultimate. I think Professional would be fine for me and I want to take advantage of the price. Anyone know this to be true, untrue, unsure?

Upgrade Or OEM (from Retail XP Pro)?
My main home desktop PC is assembled from parts (motherboard, CPU, RAM, HDD, video...) I periodically upgrade to keep performance and storage in line with my evolving needs / software. It currently runs a retail license of Windows XP Pro (BTW how do I verify this from the product key?), not an OEM license I had purchased with some motherboard.I am planning a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade, but the cost of an upgrade license is about €279 instead of the €167 for which I can get an "OEM" license.

Quite a difference.Which one should I use? If I go for the OEM version, will I be able to upgrade CPU or motherboard or anything in the machine in the future?I've read related threads but they have an OEM version of XP or Vista as the starting point.

Upgrade From Win 7 Pro To Ultimate
I currently have win7pro installed and got a a free win7ultimate (alignIT tour). Can I upgrade from one version of windows 7 to another (pro>ultimate) simply by "upgrading" and have no problems? (so no clean install). I mean yes the "upgrade" option is available, but what does it do in this particular situation? Does it only add the missing modules (bitlocker for example) or does it screw pretty much everything up as it does when we upgrade from vista>seven? I don't want to reinstall all my stuff, but bitlocker sounds great so ...:)

Win 7 Pro Upgrade Install Hangs Up
Okay so I bought the W7 Pro Upgrade 64bit using the Student download via Digitalriver.. I downloaded it on Windows 7 RC2 32bit and I followed the steps that was posted in the error thread to make an ISO file and I booted the disc and installed 64bit. Everything runs fine except when I get to the final phase of installing and it restarts my computer, the computer hangs at the Windows is starting up screen.. I did a custom clean install by the way.

AMD 5200+ 64 dual core 4gb ram DDR 2 ram nVidia 8800gt 512 gfx card Sound blaster audigy ls 5.1 sound card can't remember what MOBO i have exactly but I believe it's Asus. Someone said to try disablign the secondary  LAN in BIOS but that was already disabled for me and it still doesn't work.

Use DigitalRiver Pro Key For Anytime Upgrade
I confirm that you can windows anytime upgrade from Home Premium (even not yet activated) to Professional using Digital River product key (of course for Professional edition).

The process takes less than 10 minutes and you don't need the Professional or Anytime Upgrade DVD. All the installed programs are intact.
