Upgrade From Vista OEM
I'm currently running an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium, and I've placed my pre-order for Windows 7 Home Premium. Will I be able to do a clean install of 7 from my OEM version of Windows? I've heard that it somehow is dedicated to the motherboard, which could cause some issues...I don't know.
Will this work fine?

Wouldn't it be better to go out and buy a cheap computer that has a OEM OS for Vista or XP and just upgrade to Windows 7 saving $150? Afterwards just tweak the computer to suit your fancy except for the motherboard and CPU?

OEM Upgrade From Vista-64 To Win 7-32
If I buy a new Vista computer right now, I get a voucher for a free upgrade to Windows 7. The manufacturer only offers Vista-64 for this computer. When the Windows 7 arrives, will it have both 32 and 64 DVDs, or only the 64? If only the 64 DVD arrives, can it be exchanged or must I buy a retail Windows 7 32?

Using Upgrade License Key On New PC From OEM Vista
I have 32-bit Vista currently, from an OEM disk. I am getting the student offer for 32-bit Windows 7 upgrade. i want to know whether in the future, if I build a new pc if I can install Windows 7 64-bit using the key I get from the student offer? Or will i need to get a new retail version because of the OEM rules.

UPGRADE Versions Work On OEM Vista Or XP ?
I learned today that Microsoft is giving us a pre-order period during which we can purchase the "upgrade versions" of Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional at significantly discounted prices. My question is all of my computers have OEM XP or OEM Vista. Can I purchase those UPGRADE versions and install on my computers?I read online that we cannot. On the other hand, I think many people have computers with pre-installed OEM Vista, and my guess is that Microsoft will let them purchase the upgrade versions of Win 7??? But I'm not sure. I really love Windows 7 and would like to upgrade ALL of my computers. Please let me know if the pre-orders (upgrade versions) work on my OEM machines. Lastly, can I use those disks to clean install on the same computers down the line? and even if I swap the motherboard, HDD etc, can I still reuse the pre-ordered Win 7 so long as I install XP or Vista (OEM or full) first on the machine?

I've bought a Win7 HP Full package and my friend has a laptop with Vista HP OEM. Is it possible for him to upgrade to Win7 if I sold him my Win7 HP package?I have not yet asked him to run Win7 Upgrade Advisor but I will do so next time I am in contact with him. I just need to know is there any chance this would work?If you must know, my reason fro selling is that I got my hands on some Win7 Pro keys from MSDN AA with an account from school but only after buying Win7 HP Full as a preorder. Dell Windows Vista OEM To Win7 Upgrade
I recently bought a DELL STUDIO 1555 on June 12. Since Free windows upgrade is for the systems purchased after June 26 i am not getting a upgrade. I am from INDIA. I contacted Dell Customer Service here. They said i cannot purchase it from them also. Actually they had very less information about Windows 7. All they just said is that since my system is bought before June 26 i am not eligible. They had no further information about it. I have Two Questions Q1. Why Can't i purchase OEM version of windows 7 from DELL? Q2.Since my laptop is shipped with OEM version of WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 32 BIT SP1, if i purchase a WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM UPGRADE PACK from Microsoft / Amazon etc,. Can i install it on my machine ?? Can i install WINDOWS 7 by formatting C Drive or should it be installed over Vista ??

Vista 32 Bit OEM To Win 7 64 Bit Upgrade
I am currently using Vista Home Premium 32 bit only, OEM media, my PC is 64 bit capable. Will I be able to use the upgrade version of Windows 7 to install the 64 bit O/S or am I only able to upgrade to 32 bit? Vista OEM + Win 7 Upgrade = Win 7 Retail?
This is not a question about the logistics of installing the OS -- I've already found out that you can do a clean install with the upgrade media. It is more a question of what I am entitled to do with my Win7 license (does it retain the OEM limitations or is it a retail version)? When I buy the Win7 upgrade am I "destroying" my Vista OEM license and creating a Win7 Retail license OR do I now own a Vista OEM and Win7 OEM license which are both tied to the same machine?  Specifically I am concerned with the following scenario: I currently own Machine 1 with Vista OEM installed on it. I purchase Win7 upgrade, so now I have Machine 1 with Win7 on it. In a year or two I plan on building a new machine, let’s call it Machine 2. I am going to take Machine 1 out of service completely or install an old retail copy of XP on it at this time. Am I licensed to install Win7 on Machine 2 OR is that license stuck with Machine 1?

I am already on preorder for an OEM copy of 7 Pro x64, for my laptop. I am going to build a new computer soon and want the same version on that too. Since I am a student, I can take advantage of the Win741 promotion for an upgrade edition Can I use the OEM disc for both computers, fresh install, and then use their respective keys to activate?

Ok so I have an OEM verision of windows vista home premium. It says i have the ability to get the upgade to ultimate. But wouldn't it just make mroe sense for me to speak LESS and get the OEM verision as its about 40$ cheaper? I'm confused does the upgrade actually "upgrade" you to the full retail verision and can you use it on all computers with vista home premium/ultimate or is it like OEM one use. and if its like oem why spend the extra money for it? Just trying to figure it out so when i upgrade/buy an oem verision i know what to get and what i'm getting fo rmy money

Full Upgrade, Retail Or OEM
Are all the pre-order deals for upgrade software rather the full retail versions? I have shelled out quite a bit on WinXP over the past few years and more recently due to both desktop and laptop falling over at the same time. I want to be able to install any new operating system I buy on new hardware when that becomes necessary. I have to be very sure. I am not wasting any more dosh on OEM versions. It seems to me that just because you get a full version rather than an upgrade, that is something different to the license being OEM or Retail. Full or upgrade version is not really the issue (although full is obviously better). For me it is about the license to install on new hardware as I upgrade that without buying a new copy of windows. Does 'full' also mean that the install will not be tied to a previous copy of windows being installed first (or having the key for that version to hand)?

i use xp pro sp2 retail on my main well gaming rig. i ordered the Windows 7 hp upgrade and will ship 10-22-09. if i read right. when i upgrade to Windows 7 my key for my retail xp pro sp2 will be no more good. i will not be able to install or use my retail xp again. is this right? well. a bud sent me a oem sp3 copy of xp pro some months ago. its still sealed and i never opened the package. i am afraid of sp3 is why i have not used it yet. so.. but. my question is and if i will lose my retail xp key if i upgrade to Windows 7. should i upgrade to Windows 7 using my oem xp sp3 disc. and keep my retail key etc. so. id guess first i need to back up and save what i need to keep. files etc. then nuke reformat and install my oem xp. just basic install and i guess register it. and then upgrade fresh install Windows 7. if this will work im fine with it. yes its the extra steps to first install the oem xp version maybe. but id like to save my retail xp key. i do have another computer i guess i could use xp on for a while to come. i have not been using my second pc. ive been afraid to install or use xp sp3.. so i have not used my oem xp sp3 yet.

My main home desktop PC is assembled from parts (motherboard, CPU, RAM, HDD, video...) I periodically upgrade to keep performance and storage in line with my evolving needs / software.It currently runs a retail license of Windows XP Pro (BTW how do I verify this from the product key?), not an OEM license I had purchased with some motherboard.I am planning a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade, but the cost of an upgrade license is about €279 instead of the €167 for which I can get an "OEM" license. Quite a difference.Which one should I use? If I go for the OEM version, will I be able to upgrade CPU or motherboard or anything in the machine in the future?I've read related threads but they have an OEM version of XP or Vista as the starting point.

Win 7 OEM Or Upgrade Disk
I am currently running XP 32-bit OEM. I had intended to buy the Win 7 OEM, but understand that the Upgrade Disk can be used to do a clean install also. Is there any advantage to buying one over the other? If the OEM is more straight forward in the install, that would be the deciding factor for me. I have not seen any discussion on here comparing the two. This leads me to believe that the Upgrade is the way to go.

Non Activated OEM Upgrade Disk Win7
I bought a ASUS that had a failed c-mos from the factory. only 2 months after i bought it. Before that happen i ordered the asus OEM Windows 7 upgrade disk then my computer crashes now today the disk came. Can i use this asus oem upgrade disk to upgrade my dell vista to Windows 7? Will it change my needed drivers for my dell and install asus drivers. Or is this simply just an upgrade disk similar to the one you buy retail expect for the key restrictions and will work to upgrade my other computer? both are x64 my dell vista and the asus Windows 7 upgrade.

OEM Windows is a topic fraught with confusion. The Windows Upgrade DVD is also a topic fraught with confusion. In this post, I will combine both topics into a question of ultimate discombobulation. ;-) I have an install CD for OEM Windows XP Home. The CD was provided to me by the OEM (Dell), who pre-installed the software on my computer. I have read - in this forum and elsewhere - that an OEM version of Windows is considered a Full version, and that Windows XP is a valid qualifying previous version of Windows with respect to Windows 7. Therefore, I am under the impression that my OEM Windows XP Home CD qualifies me to legally use an upgrade version of Windows 7. But wait. An OEM version of Windows cannot be legally installed on any computer other than the computer on which it was originally installed. I want to install Windows 7 on a different computer -- not the computer on which Windows XP is currently installed. So my friends, here it is: Does my OEM Windows XP Home CD legally entitle me to use an upgrade version of Windows 7 on a different computer from the one on which Windows XP is installed? (You understand why I want to do this: I want the latest hardware.) If the answer is Yes...well and good. If the answer is no, I would like a clear explanation of why not. After all, I do own a valid qualifying previous version of Windows BTW: If the answer is yes, I understand that I can no longer legally use my copy of Windows XP once I have installed Windows 7.

Legal To Use One OEM Non-keyed Upgrade Disk On Another Computer
Bought a computer got home 2 days later ordered upgrade disk 1 week later system crashed took it back to the store they had it 2 weeks said they couldnt repair it told me to pick a new computer i told them i ordered the win7 upgrade disk about amonth ago and i should be getting it soon and asked should i bring it in or mail it back they said sell it or use it its yours since you bought the computer even though you brought it back. Also they said it was a regular upgrade disk and would work on any computer. Is this legal or ilegal since its a diff computer?

Dell OEM Upgrade Disc - 32 Bit And 64 Bit
I am slated to be invited to obtain the Windows 7 upgrade disc on or after Oct. 22 from Dell. Right now my machine runs Vista 32 bit. I have tested Windows 7 64 bit, which runs well. Actually much better than Vista 64 bit (provided by Dell at my request). Well, Vista 64 bit didn't run at all. But Windows 7 runs nicely in 64 bit. So, I am wondering if the Dell disc will come with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions; because I would rather install the 64 bit version. If it does not; do I work with Dell or Microsoft to get the 64 bit version? Is there an extra charge?
