Upgrade To 7 Or Stay With Vista

Since windows 7 is coming out tomorrow, i might pick up a copy of it. I've been thinking if i should upgrade my Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 home premium. Should i do the upgrade?

Also, if i do the upgrade should i do the upgrade option or the custom install option? i do want a clean system but i'm scared that my laptop would be mess up after doing that. What files get kept and/ or deleted when i do the custom install, anything i should watch out for. And what is the upgrade option, does all my files and programs get kept and just replaces the OS?

Monitor Will Not Stay Off
I have two systems here running Windows 7. One system is older with a PS2 mouse. I think that is why my monitor will not stay off. I have gone into advanced power settings and turned off sleep, and made sure all my settings look right. I have also gone to device manager and un-checked the "allow this device wake computer" box for the mouse. The monitor still comes on when you touch the mouse. What else could be making the monitor come on? How do I make the mouse so it's less sensitive or disable it so you have to hit the keyboard to turn on the monitor?

Network Settings Will Not Stay
when i was running the windows 7 rc, everything ran well with my network settings.

today, i received my windows 7 party pack and installed the os. whenever i reboot the computer, i don't have internet access. i have to go to network and sharing center to go to the ipv4 settings to input the default gateway everytime. my nic is the integrated realtekRTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. at first, i used the microsoft drivers from the os. i did update to the realtek drivers, but the same thing is happening.

i've also ran various ipconfig commands, but nothing i've been able to do seems to help. anything i'm missing?

Computer Won't Stay Off
I am about at wits end when it comes to this computer. I just built it like last week, and everything runs beautifully about it; that is, except that the dang thing won't stay turned off! I tell it to shutdown, and it turns itself back on after about two or three seconds. Let me clarify: the computer itself does NOT randomly shutdown, nor am I having problems with sleep or hibernate (haven't used them yet).

Ok, so I have tried about everything on every help forum I've read from here to knittingforums.com. I have disable all wake events, including the ones in regards to network adapters. I have disabled automatic restart, and even fooled around in the BIOS, disabling all wake events. I've even flipped around between BIOS commanded and OS commanded event wakes in the BIOS. About the only thing I can do is log off of my user account, and then do a hard shutdown. Even did the thing where you specifically set what the power button does.

So... please help! I will be most gracious, and will give any more information if necessary. The only thing I have NOT done is flash the BIOS; it won't recognize the USB device I have the updated drivers on.

Upgrade Path Problem - Win 7 RC To Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Items Don't Stay Pinned To Explorer After Reboot
I upgraded my Vista Ultimate installation to Windows Seven Ultimate. I am using RTM version 7600.

I have tried on several occasions to pin some folders to explorer. The pinning works fine and they will stay there until I reboot the machine, at which point when I right click the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar, the pins have now disappeared? This is rather annoying as I use a number of different folders and on my old Vista installation I had taskbar shortcuts for each folder.

Unable To Stay Connected Via Wireless Router Belkin 54g
I recently dl'd W7RC and upgraded from the W7Beta.  I never had any issues with the beta version, but now I am unable to stay connected via my wireless network router.  I initially installed the 64-bit version and had the same issue, so I uninstalled and installed the 32-bit.  However, same issue, I am unable to stay connected.

I power cycled my router and modem and the network simply goes m.i.a.  It will be connected upon start-up but then drop after 2-3 minutes of usage.  I have since uninstalled W7RC and restored my OS to Vista.  I am using a Acer Extensa 4620Z with a Belkin Wireless router model #: F5D7234-4 v3

I see that this appears to be a common issue, any troubleshooting support is appreciated.

Mouse Cursor Change Won't Stay Permanent
I'm not sure what the issue is but I can go in and change the mouse cursors and everything works until I restart the computer. Then it immediately reverts back to the default Windows 7 Aero cursor. When I go back in the cursors settings it has my settings listed but I have to hit "Ok" and then it's fine again. Why is it reverting after a restart or shutdown?

Will Be A Win 7 Upgrade DVD Be As Crippled As A Vista Upgrade DVD ?
As a Windows user of many years, I'm sure I wasn't the only one caught out by Windows Vista's novel upgrade DVDs which didn't allow a clean install of the OS. It astounded me at the time that Microsoft could contemplate rewarding loyal customers by selling an upgrade DVD that doubles reinstallation time of Windows in the event of any problems (I returned my DVDs as soon as I discovered the limitation and, somewhat annoyed, purchased full version DVDs...

what business user has the time to waste installing an OS just to wipe it again?)Given that every other Microsoft upgrade product in history (including the recent ones - cf. Office 2007 Upgrade but right back to Windows 3.1 days) has been capable of asking for a previous product CD/DVD to prove upgrade eligibility, will Microsoft be punishing loyal users with this same irritating limitation on Windows 7 upgrade DVDs? Having built up an *old* laptop with Windows 7 RC and my full software profile, I shall be wanting to get Windows 7 the day it comes out so would like to know the details of the upgrade DVDs in advance!

Upgrade From Vista And Drives
I'm running Vista Business (32 bit, with sp1) and I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (32 bit, from msdnaa). I have two hard drives set up, C and D. I have D for all my data. Now, the option to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista says that I'll get to keep all my files, programs and settings. but what exactly does 'all' mean?

Does it include those in both drives c and d? Will all my data in D stay there and be accessible after upgrading to Windows 7? Also, upon searching here in the forums, I've seen several cases where the upgrade is unsuccessful where it stops at a certain percentage, if this happens, will the operating system revert back to the previous one (in my case, vista) or will i have to install vista manually? and how do i make sure i have a problem free upgrade?

Edit: can i actually do an upgrade? I mean, will the product key for the windows 7 professional work/register successfully after upgrading and not doing a clean install?

HP Laptop Upgrade From Vista
I am trying to install on an HP DV6-1063TX laptop computer.

I have runs upgrade adviser it reports 1 issue although I am not sure what it is,

In the System report I get two notices one about MS Mail & Web filtering and one suggesting a visit to HP website, everything else is green ticked so I don't think there are any serious problems here.

In the Devices section there is a ? againnst the HP DVB-T/Analog TV-Tuner but again all else is green ticked.

In the Software section I get a 'Yellow Triangle !' against Adobe Shockwave Player version 10.2.0.023, everything else has green ticks. The problem is that as far as I can see there should not be Adobe Shockwave version 10 as I have uninstalled not only this program but all the other Adobe software as well. I have tried updating to version 11.5, I have used Adobe's standalone uninstall tool for Shockwave but Windows 7 UGA insists it is still on the computer. I have run CCLeaner but all to no avail. Is this the problem?

On the first attempt I had a problem with HPs Keyboard Filter which I understand is related to the HP Quick Launch Button software, I have uninstalled the software and have upgraded to the latest version.

I have tried the installation 3 or 4 times now with the HP software upgraded or fully installed. Each time the installation goes through all the on-line checks, system checks, file expansion etc... only to find that it fails during the final stage. During the last attempt I had the upgraded Keyboard Filters installed and this again caused a problem so I am going to uninstall the upgraded software and try another install although I hold little hope for success.

The fact that the Windows 7 UGA reports a phantom Adobe Installation leads me to think the problem may be there but I have no idea how to solve this as it is not on the machine.

I would prefer to do the upgrade installation if possible as it will save many hours of software installation (after hours of time already wasted on Windows 7 installation), and I am worried that being a laptop Windows 7 may fail with some of the drivers it does not help that I cannot find this laptop on HPs website even though it was bought just over 12 months ago.

I really want to get rid of this Vista installation and hope that someone here can be of assistance, in the meantime I will be trying one more attempt to upgrade after uninstalling the HP Quick Launch Bitton software.

Upgrade From Vista HP 64 To 7 Pro 64
I was to find that I couldn't do an in place upgrade from Vista Home Premium (64-bit) to 7 Professional (64-bit) after I'd already bought Professional. It seems that I can do an in place upgrade to either 7 HP or 7 Ultimate, but they skipped over Pro.

Is there some workaround for this, or failing that some way to reliably back up my applications and data?

I have already either upgraded the incompatible software, or uninstalled it, so I only have compatible software left on my Vista HP64 system.

Upgrade To Ultimate From Vista HP
I have a new PC with Vista home premium in Spanish. I didn't realize that the voucher given for Win-7 was not valid for Ultimate which I need.

I am unable to find out if I should upgrade or buy the full version.

I believe I have to find out from others first if one allows more than one PC to be upgraded, or something I will miss and regret.

Any advice please a I see some cheap options on Amazon, but there has to be a catch I will not pick up on.

Vista To 7 Upgrade Hangs At 62%
I've been having some difficulty getting the upgrade from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 to happen. Twice I tried it and it hung at 40%, but then I uninstalled iTunes and updated my RAID drivers and it progressed further. Now it's hanging at 62%.

I've seen the article about 62% here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975253, but my log files don't contain that information.

The logs contain a lot of information about not being able to get attributes for this or that directory, but it seems to get past those so it doesn't seem like that's the problem.

A zip of setupact.log and setuperr.log is here: http://tinyurl.com/yh8348h

When it was still getting stuck at 40%, I ran the setup advisor and it told me that iTunes should be uninstalled, and that there was an upgrade available to Steam. I uninstalled iTunes, but I seem to have the most recent Steam client available.
