Unable To Transfer At Gigabit Speeds?
Dec 15, 2011
I cant get anything faster than 5Mbs transfers over my network. This is what I have connected. Im using a Dlink DIR-655 Router, set to connect at 1Gbps, Western Digital NAS drive, it says its connected at 1Gbps, and my laptop is set to connect at 1Gbps also. My laptop has a Realtek NIC, with the lastest drivers that I can find. Every thing is set to 1Gbps and, they all connect at that speed, but transferring between my NAS and my laptop, I ONLY get right at 5Mbs. Everything is connected with Cat5e cables, no long runs or anything. Ive looked at several forums to figure out what I can do to get higher transfer speeds

I have a Dell XPS 15Z with gigabit ethernet port, have dgs 1005d gigabit switch and WDTV live hub also with gigabit "capability"... The network cables should be fine...
The issue is that the file transfer (these are usually HD movies) from my laptop to WDTV are rather slow having in mind it's a gigabit network connection... The speed tops 15 MB/s. Same thing if I connect WDTV directly with my laptop.
The switch indicates (green light) it has set-up a gigabit connection both with WDTV and my laptop.
I have disabled autotuning, RDC, AV software etc. Tried with jumbo frames, disabling flow control - EVERYTHING

I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this problem. When transferring a 3 gig file from my NV+ to my internal hard drive I get speeds of around 300 Kb/s and message saying the transfer will take 18 hours. When i transfer the same file to my wifes computer over the same network the speed jumps to 30MB/s which is what it should be. I cannot understand why this is happening as my wife's computer is way slower than mine with only a core 2 duo processor and 2 gig of ram

I recently completed a clean install of windows 7.
I have the i7 950 on the ASUS Rampage II Extreme motherboard.
I am currently experiencing extremely slow usb tranfer speeds.
I get transfer rates on average of 650 KB/second.
I checked the device manager and 2 of the 8 usb controllers say enhanced. The other 6 do not.
According to the specs of the board, all 8 should be usb 2.0.
I have tried letting the system update the drivers, but for all, it retains the current driver.
I even went so far as to disable the controllers and restart. All 8 returned, but with the current drivers.
I tried using the install CD that came with the mobo, but it states that it cannot run using the current OS.
Any thoughts?

My PC's network card is configured as 100 Mbps My NAS Drive is configured as 100 Mbps
My Home Hub 3 shows both connected at 100 Mbps, yet I'm getting a maximum of 1.3M transferring a file to the NAS.
Is there any way I can increase this ? I get the same speed from my 20Mbps download from my DSL.

have been struggling with my system taking 2-3 minutes to find drivers for any memory stick I plug in to any of 3 USB ports on my Acer 1810T. When the process finally completes, the transfer speeds are about 1MB/s or less.Another (possibly related?) problem is when I insert any SD card in the dedicated slot for the first time, everything is fine. Once I remove and either re-insert (or insert a different card), nothing appears. I get a message saying "process is already in memory". I have to reboot to get things working again.

I have one PC on which I am running Windows 7 ultimate and Windows XP (via MS Virtual PC 2007).I have downloaded Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP (wet7xp_x86.exe) and installed it onto the the VM running XP.I have created several accounts on the XP VM but during the transfer only the administrator user account that I am logged into in VM XP is transferred into Windows 7. Should not all the accounts be transferred simultaneously? What am I doing wrong?

I have a pentium 4 pc that had built in ethernet on the mobo, i replaced it with a gigabit ethernet.I did a speed test at speak easy with the built in and got 60ish mb. I disabled that device and used the gigabit and i got 38mb with or without jumbo frames 7k.I performed the test 4 times with similar results. I have updated both cards with the latest drivers via win update.

My Linksys WRT120N router no longer works, so I bought a D-Link DIR-655, which has Gigabit ports.I have a PC with Win 7 64-bit with an Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet built in the motherboard, an ASUS P5B-VM SE. I also have 4 GB of RAM and internal hard disks connected via SATA 2. The PC is connected to the router via a Cat 5 cable with the label "Type CM24AWG UL E188L30".I also bought a Buffalo Linkstation Live LS-CHLV2 NAS with a 2 TB HD, and it's supposed to have a Gigabit port, too. The NAS is connected to the router via the Cat 5 cable included with the NAS.I checked the settings of the Atheros, and it uses "auto" for the media type (other choices range from 10Mbps Half Duplex to 1000Mbps Full Duplex. The maximum frame size is 1514 (the default), and the receive and transmit buffers at 256. There is no "jumbo frame" property in the configurations. The NAS only has frame size for the configuration, and it's currently set at 1518 (the default). Other options are 4102, 7422, and 9694 (all labeled as "jumbo" frame sizes).
I ran LAN Speed Test from the PC with a folder in the NAS as the destination, and the results for a 100-MB file are 34 Mbps for writing and 71 Mbps for reading.I experimented by setting the Atheros media type to 1000Mbps Full Duplex and the maximum frame size to 9694. I went to the NAS and set the frame size to the highest, 9694. The transfer speed became worse.I could not find any settings in the router except for MTU for Internet connections, but I think that's not used for network file transfers, so I did not change it (the default is 1500).I would like to know if the system and components I have are supposed to be enough to do file transfers between the NAS and the PC that are faster than the results I've gotten. Also, is it necessary to modify Ethernet configurations? Finally, I do not what else to do except to do the LAN Speed test using the ff. options:
1. connect the NAS directly to the PC
2. connect to another PC, probably a laptop, that has Gigabit ethernet and is connected to the router
3. buy two cables that are identified for Gigabit networks and to replace the ones connecting the PC and the NAS to the router

a friend of mine now has a gigabit connection but can only get 400Mb download when tested via speedtest.net. while the engineer was installing everything he noted speeds of 700Mb on the laptop used for the setup.
would the lower speeds be due to the realtek network card he has?

I am having networking issues with Windows 7 Pro. I did a clean install on Saturday from Windows XP and started having issues staying/getting connected to the internet with my motherboard's (ASUS A8NVM-CSM) on board Nvidia nForce networking controller. After seeing that others were having the same problem, I bought a new card, Dynex Gigabit PCI Card which installed perfectly and disabled the other one. Now I'm running into issues of my connection dropping sometimes every 5, 10, 20 minutes and the only way to get it back instantly is to do ipconfig /renew.
When I do the troubleshooter, it tells me there's something wrong with the connectivity of my modem or router, which is impossible. I say this because I live with roommates who are all using different operating systems (Vista, XP, Mac OS X Leopard) and they haven't had connection problems either. There are two routers in the house, a Netgear and a Cisco, and I haven't a problems with either of those when I was on XP, and my roommates aren't having issues with it either.
Any ideas or settings I might be able to change on this card? I've tried drivers and changing cables out, making sure Windows doesn't turn off the network card to save power...etc. Let me know if you need more information.

I need in the next two days to find a quick fix to plug a front panel USB 3.0 box connector into my ASUS M5A97 or get it to function in any possible fashion whether at USB 2.0 or 3.0 speeds or whatever.Any products within 20 miles of my zip code at 19073 are fair game. I recommend perusing url... for the PA store inventory.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 MK3. Myself and many others are trying to figure out why we can't get SATA II speeds. There is nothing in the BIOS that helps, nor the manual. The only thing that the BIOS says in the System Info is SATA-AHCI. I have tried several different SSD's and they all max out at around 130Gbps. Someone mentioned that it might not support S-II, but I have a very hard time believing that with the computer only being 2 years old.

I'm out of ideas. Tried several different drivers, and settings. Using a fresh install of Windows 7 RC. The drivers all seem to "work", by which I mean Windows 7 has no problem with them, but no driver I've tried will let the card actually talk with anything. It keeps trying to find a DHCP address and always comes up with a 169 address. Even when I specify a static IP it still won't see anything on the network.
DHCP is working for my on board NIC, and this card works in my XP installation on this same PC.
The driver that seems to "work" the best so far is this: Download HP Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Driver 13.5.00 Rev.C for Vista64 Driver for Windows Vista64 - Softpedia
With that driver I actually get all of the nifty features in the driver properties page, and I've run all of it's diagnostic tests which all come up green.
Also worth nothing: I had this same problem with Windows 7 Beta.

Earlier many reported this problem with win 7 x64 build 7100, now I did a clean install of build 7600 x64 & the problem is now more frequently happening every 15 mins it freezes the comp.
Uploading stops
downloading sometime stops
sound/video freezes
applications stop responding
nothing can be done to the system at that time.
I am using asus P5B dlx wifi mobo with Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet lan drivers latest v 11.10.6.3 dated 6/15/09.
Is there any solution to this I am pulling my hair due to this issue & cant use the comp.

Ever since I built this PC (about 1 month ago now) I haven't been able to put him to sleep. I can set the "time until sleep" for 1 minute and sit next to him watching and waiting, and that works, but anything more than 5 minutes and he just won't sleep.
I did some digging and figured out how to use the Event Viewer and Command Prompt "Lastwake" command to find what's waking him up. It's my Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection. I imagine that means that he's getting signals from the internet while trying to sleep. I have Steam and MSN isntalled, but even when I log out of those and close them, the computer still won't sleep.
Now that I've figured out the source of the wake though I'm not sure what's the next step. I'd rather not have to unplug my internet every single time I want the computer to sleep. Aside for simple inconvenience I believe that would put some serious strain on the port over the long term (my last PC's LAN port was one of the first things to fail). So is there a setting that I can change so that the computer ignores the Network Connection's wake signals?

Today when I started up my computer it blue screened about three times at the log in screen. After the third or so time I booted my computer with the last known good configuration. At first it seemed to work; everything seemed to boot as ormal. However, I noticed that I could not connect to the internet. I went into the Device Manger and noticed a problem with my Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection. Under device status it states "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" I have updated and reinstalled the drivers twice now to no avail. I do not know what the problem is.

We have a 20Mb line with a 2Mb upload. When checking speed testing sites, we're always getting full speeds. When downloading using Steam or uTorrent (Anything that manages its own downloads) I can get 2.4 - 2.5MB/s download. But when I'm using any form of web browser, firefox, IE ect. Loading pages can take 10-20 seconds, pictures 30seconds-2minutes. Downloads are much much slower, around 500KB/s and while videos usually load fast enough they sometimes drop their connection and stop buffering.

I have AT&T DSL internet service and I'm using their 2-Wire 2701HG-B modem/router plus all my phones lines connected to a phone or Sat receiver have their filters installed on them. I'm subscribed to their 3Mbps plan but for quite awhile now I've noticed very slow internet speed.Going to Speedtest.net - Results or Speed Test | Bandwidth | Broadband Internet Services I'm getting download readings as low as .23Kbps to 2.73Mbps (the latter very, very seldon) with an average of under 1.0Mbps.AT&T did a ping or something and can tell I have noise on the line so they say it's probably either the router or one of the phone lines so this morning a tech dropped off a new router (same brand/model) but I can't see any improvement. When the tech came the other day he hooked up his small modem from my phone line to his laptop and ran a speed test and it was consistently 2.5Mbps.So are there any settings on my modem/router that could be slowing things down?

Problem: Can't get file transfer speeds over 12MB/sec, avg is around 7-8MB/sec, this happens system to system, or system to NAS, or NAS to system
The setup:
I have a 24 port linksys gigabit swith, 6 computers, 5 NAS devices, all gigabit
every system on the network, other than the nas, is running windows 7
the switch is registering gigabit connections, indicated by the link lights
Jumbo frame is ON and is supported by all systems
What has been tried:
i have turned remote differential compression OFF, from what few articles i read on the web
tried different cables
tried other ports
cycled everything
updated drivers
tried a separate switch
DHCP on/off
Jumbo Frame on/off
anybody have any insight as to what to try? i have been looking all over the web and only found the concept of turning remote differential compression off.
NAS is a iomega ix4

since I got my new setup, temps have gone up like crazy and I cannot find the source of the problem. Using Prime95, my 955BE goes as high as 65-70 degrees celcius. This is at standard clock and voltage, which are 3200mHz and ~1.35v.The cooler I use is: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and thermal paste: Cooler Master something. Case fans are turned up to medium instead of low and the heatsink seems to be placed correctly. With my old motherboard (M4A77) and this exact same cooler, temps would stabilize at ~54 degrees at full load.
