I am working on windows 7 (64 bit ) . Can i have Ubuntu installed in another partition ? I tried to install ubuntu but unable to complete the process. Is it because Ubuntu works only on 32 bit ? or the installation CD corrupted ?
I have Windows 7x64 installed on my Lenovo G580 right now. I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop. I made a bootable USB using unetbootin and tried to install Ubuntu. It installed correctly( I formatted a partition which i made specifically for ubuntu with 10GB Swap area and 20 GB for main Ubuntu installation).
After restarting i am not getting select os menu rather windows 7 starts directly
When I browse my HDD in windows 7 (My Computer-Properties-Disk Management), I'm unable to locate my hdd in which i installed Ubuntu, it just shows my other two drives thats C and D drive, the E drive which i used is not visible.
I'm using a Asus G60VX-RBBX05, and I'm trying to perform a clean install with its recovery partition, but F9 just takes me to the startup repair without the option of reinstalling. My dvd is corrupted due to moisture. A previous image and backup doesn't exist btw.
I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional on a system with the 2nd hard drive partition - 100GB in size. I used Paragon Partition Manger to create the two partitions, formatting both as NTFS.
Windows XP isproperly installed on the first partition. When I try to install Windows 7 Pro on the second partition it extracts the files & installs fine right up to the point of rebooting, then gives me this error on rebooting:
File: windowssystem32winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000d
The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I've purchased four Win 7 Pro license keys from MS and already sucessfully loaded Windows 7 Pro on three computers with a single partition HDD, using the DVD (downloaded from digitalrivers) w/o any problems - so one would think the DVD itself is OK.
Any ideas why I can install Windows 7 Pro (using the same DVD) just fine on a single (simple) partition but get this error when trying to install on a seperate partition?
I am unable to install windows 7 whenever I try to install I get this error: "Setup was unable to use existing System partition because it does not contain the required free Space."
I am having a problem with doing a fresh install of Windows 7. It is on a Dell Inspiron 1546 with a 150 GB hard drive. There was an original install but the computer was having issues as some files were corrupted. I used the Windows 7 disc to format the hard drive and booted from CD after restarting.
However when I try to install the new Windows 7 it sits at the part where it says: Expanding files. Then after a while an error pops up that says: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information
I tried to dual boot Fedora 18 with my Windows 7. They are on two different hard drives. Fedora 18 worked but I was unable to boot up Windows 7. Frustrated, I decided to just delete everything from all the hard drives and try to do a clean install of Windows 7 using the USB-DVD Windows tool to make a USB Windows 7 installer. I then got the following error when trying to install Windows onto my hard drive:
"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"
I tried unplugging the other hard drives and got the same error. I also went to the command prompt and used Diskpart and did clean all. Still the error shows up. Something that might be useful is that when I did disk list in the command prompt it showed my hard drive but with 0 free space. Not sure if this is useful but the drive I want Windows 7 on is a solid state drive but the one I had Fedora on is a normal hard drive and I had an extra harddrive that I used for storage that is a normal hard drive as well.
I had 32 bit Windows 7 home premium provided by OEM. Recently I purchased Windows 7 professional 64 bit in order to increase my memory.(My system is 64 bit capable) I followed [1]. I am using USB for installation. I booted the system with USB. Then at disk manager I deleted all the partitions(including recovery ) Then I refreshed and click next and I got an error saying setup unable to create system partition.
I deleted the Ubuntu 10.04 partition in windows computer management/disk management. Then i shut down the computer, upon booting up i was greeted with an grub error and unable to boot into windows. I used super grub disk, now windows boots up fine now. I'm left with this now, three other partitions and a 218gb of free space. How can i allocate my free space (218gb) to my C: drive? I right click my C: drive but the extend volume is grayed out. Only the Shrink volume is selectable.
Im using dell inspiron 1564.this is a dual boot system-(windows7 & ubuntu). Recently my system got affected by viruses. Even-though i have a working antivirus I get frequent pop-ups saying "threat detected". I'm tired with deleting those viruses. so decided to restore system from OEM partition to get rid of all those viruses. before installing ubuntu I had a single partition (c:), then i made it into two partitions one for ubuntu clean install. now if I restore my system to factory settings from OEM of windows7 will the partition of ubuntu get formatted or deleted?
I deleted the ubuntu partition now windows wont boot. I have tried the recovery disk and tried "bootrec /fixmbr" but it didnt work. Now the win7 installation is not showing up in the recovery console. When I turn the laptop on I get "Insert System Disk in drive Press any key when ready".
i have Ubuntu dual booted with windows 7 32 bit, i am running out of space on my hard drive and am not using the 100 gigabytes i partitioned of for Ubuntu, i was hoping that someone might know how to change the partition size as i cant find out how to do it.
I have a small query about this whole partitioning business. I'm trying to set up a partition so I can dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
My computer came with a Dell Recovery partition and an OEM partition as well as the main C: drive, which are all primaries. I've created a new logical drive, which I've called Z:, with the idea being to install the Linux OS in that chunk of the drive.
My first question: First up, I've formatted it as "exFAT" - is this the same as FAT32?
Next question: can I divide this 'Z' into smaller chunks with different formats, or do they all have to be the same format? I was hoping to be able to format a small bit of the drive into a Linux file-system so that both OSs can be kept entirely separate from each other, but leave the bulk of it as FAT so that I can see my files with both OSs. If this is not possible, what would be the best way to achieve the desired result?
I need to create a new partition for Ubuntu, but I have the maximum number of partitions. I have tried converting the disk to dynamic, but it says that there is not enough space available for that. What should I do? (The 75 gb unallocated space is where Ubuntu should go)url...
I have previously installed windows 7then for trial purpose installed ubuntu on pimary drve C:However it doesnot installed properly and now again i have installed windows7 ...it is perfect but others partition drives are not accesible.
So the other day I decided that I wanted to try dual-booting Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl Entertainment Notebook that already had Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit installed. I shrank the main (biggest) partition by 100Gigs and then installed Ubuntu 10.04 on that 100Gigs of unallocated space. All worked fine, except when I tried to boot Windows 7 from the grub menu, it would come up to the beginning Windows 7 animation and then it would crash. So, I downloaded a Windows 7 Recovery CD and tried a few of the tools there. I did not create a system recover image prior to my troubles, so I could not recover the easy way.
After that, I tried the Startup Repair tool, which did not work. I read somewhere to try that Startup Repair tool 2 or 3 times, which I did. The third time, it seemed to freeze; it was "working" for about 6 hours, at which point I decided that it was enough and shut down the PC. That was a mistake... From that point forward, I still could not boot into Windows, but also every time I tried to boot into Ubuntu, I had to perform a disk check, which always failed! After trying that a few times, I had had enough yet again and decided to just reinstall Ubuntu. The install seemed to work fine, but once I rebooted I could not boot into Ubuntu (or Windows 7). No matter what option I select from the grub menu (or if I push F11 to go into recovery partition), it gives me an error that says "Error: No such partition" and dumps me into a grub rescue prompt...
After releasing multiple bouts of turrets, I tried booting from my Ubuntu LiveUSB again (same one I installed Ubuntu with twice) and ran Gparted to look at my partitions. It only showed me the one 100Gig partition and said the remaining ~350Gigs were unallocated! So now I'm stuck with no bootable operating system (on my HD), and to top it off, HP just sent me their "official" recovery disks that are trying to reformat my HD and erase all my data...
I know there has to be a way to restore my partitions and replace the grub bootloader with the Windows 7 bootloader. At this point I don't care about Ubuntu at all. All of my data was on the Windows 7 partition (which I cannot access from Ubuntu to grab it).
I can provide any information that you need, but remember that I can only do so via either BIOS or by booting Ubuntu from the LiveUSB. I cannot access Windows 7. I also do not have a Windows 7 install disk as this was a refurbished HP laptop that I bought from Costco...
I am using VMWare Workstation 6.5.3 in my Windows 7. I have set up Ubuntu Linux as a virtual machine & added the partitions (NTFS) from my existing physical disk via Add disc in VM settings window. Problem is
though they are visible in Ubuntu but when i try to open them i get the below authentication window..
"troy007" is my user id in ubuntu.
in spite of typing the correct password, i get the below error message
Nothing happens on clicking "Retry" or "Continue" & if i click "Abort", the ubuntu session gets disconnected.
I used to have a seperate Linux Partition on my Hard Drive.I no longer use Linux and uninstalled the Ubuntu Operating System from the partition and re formatted the partition in windows, but when i go to the Hard Drive Partitioning Utility with Windows wont allow me to re expand my main partition to include the other, now empty NTFS formatted, partition.
I am thinking about dual-booting my system with Windows 7 as the main OS, and linux ubuntu as a secondary. I have a few questions:
1. How much space should I leave for ubuntu's partition? 2. How do I make a swap partition (or whatever it is called, for swapping files between OS's)? 3. Can I set it up to automatically boot into windows unless I am holding down a specific key, or something similar?
BTW, my HDD is ~500gb, but my current (factory) windows partition is 450gb.
After deleting the partition on which Ubuntu was installed and enlarging the windows partition to fill the old space at the same time( stupid I know), I am unable to boot to Windows 7. All I see is a command line message that says Unknown File System and on the next line says Grub Rescue> with the option to input commands. After looking at this forum and Ubuntu forums I'm still unable to resolve the issue. I would like to be able to boot into windows 7.
Recently I installed ubuntu 11.04. Now I have deleted the ubuntu partition using windows disk management. Now I can't boot the windows os! Even I tried the FIXMBR commands! Now it is showing 'BOOTMGR not found".
I installed Ubuntu on a older Toshiba laptop. When I boot up it asks me to select either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. I want to get rid of the Ubuntu disk partition and give that 2.9 GB space to my primary hard drive. I go into compmgmt.msc but I can't execute any commands on that disk partition.
After I tried to make a dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Windows now does not boot. I have tried to reinstall and repair the HDD but the disc fails to recognize my HDD (Western Digital Scorpio Black 500 GB). My HDD is Basic, has 3 primary partitions and 1 extended (3 logical). Ubuntu 11.10 can boot fine.
I have my HP Laptop which came with Windows Vista as the OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 so I bought Windows 7 from my local store.I entered the disc and did boot from CD. It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. However, whenever I create the partition, it creates a primary one and gives me error saying Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.
A friend has asked me to install Widows 7 on a friends laptop which has XP. The laptop doesn't have a DVD drive (no drive at all) so I've had to stick the installer on a USB stick from disc using a program. The USB boots up fine on the laptop, just like a disc. I formatted 2 partitions (same drive) and tried to install windows 7 but I get this error:"setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition"So now, I have someone else's laptop with no OS. The owner is a 70 year old computer illiterate man.i'm planning on trying to install Vista instead and if successful, upgrade to 7. I would have upgraded in the 1st place, but P can't be directly upgraded to 7.
how to install Win 7 over ubuntu 10.10? I have tried booting from the disc (has a trial on it) but it says something like one of the drives are missing i.e. a usb or disc or something.
I have a new rig and I cannot install either my OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 or Ubuntu 10.10 x64.
When I try and install Windows, the installation goes through and then - just before it says 'Complete' - it says something along the lines of "Failed to make bootable" and then says press any key to restart.
When I try to install Ubuntu, I cannot select my preferred partition. And when I go into [Specify partitions manually] and select one, it says 'No root file system is defined. correct this from the partitioning menu.' And nothing I do can change this.
I was using windows 7 professional and Ubuntu in my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop.. Recently when i select windows 7 its shows a screen that says windows is loading files.. and then re boot..But i can use Ubuntu.. When i tried to re install Windows it stucked with an error..But I re installed Ubuntu.. In the first time it also had a problem.. But succeed in the second attempt..
I should have come here first, but for several weeks, I started having serious crashing, freezing, then the dreaded BSOD on my upgraded Windows 7 PC.
Finally it wouldn't even boot back in Windows 7. I could not find my Upgrade Disk or Repair Disk at the time, but I had a Ubuntu Disk. So I foolhardy installed Ubuntu on a 2nd HDD in my system, think I would be able to fix Windows 7 later.
Now I've found the Windows 7 (upgrade) disks. But I can't repair Windows 7 nor can't figure out how to re-install, it doesn't give me that option, that I can find. I've removed the Ubuntu drive, but Grub is still installed.
I would like to do a clean install (since I have already backed up my important files using Ubuntu). Will following this: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation do the trick?
Once I get it re-installed, and if it crashes again, I'll do the memtest and other troubleshooting found here.
i hav hp mini netbook and used to dual book ubuntu and windows 7, i shrinked some partitions to make swap partition for ubuntu., but after restarting netbook error shows" grub rescue no such partition" ,, after this i tested system memory and hard disk and get 100 % ok,, but when i use bootable flash drive to install Windows 7, the setup window is not loaded, only loading and loading..., what may cause this?
