Installed Ubuntu Deleted The Ubuntu Partitions

Jul 4, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Now that GRUB2 is not installed, since it was on my only HDD, it looks for the GRUB2 partition, which does not exist.

No OS Blackscreen / Possible Partitions Deleted / Ubuntu

May 20, 2012

Last night one of my friends was "guiding" me through an installation for Ubuntu to a flash drive. I was doing it on my current computer. I removed some partitions from the installation thinking it would just remove them from the list, I then tried to install it on the flash drive. (I also changed some of the NTFS FAT 32's around and stuff, But i don't know what that means)It then brought me to a black screen with a blinking underscore. After doing everything below, it now says Missing operating system. So I might have made things worse.I have tried the recovery Cd which I burned off of another windows7 computer, I tried bootrec.exe as well.I'm not entirely sure what to do at this point. I am currently using the same computer, but on the trail version - "try ubuntu" of ubuntu. All of my files seem to be intact. Also, when I ran one of the recovery options it had a box for listed OS's and none displayed, it also said select drivers to install to disk and brought me to system32. (I had no idea what to look at, at that point)I also did.Nothing seems to be working and I'm out of ideas and running short on time to get my work done.

Unable To Boot Windows 7 After Unistalling Ubuntu

Dec 20, 2010

After deleting the partition on which Ubuntu was installed and enlarging the windows partition to fill the old space at the same time( stupid I know), I am unable to boot to Windows 7. All I see is a command line message that says Unknown File System and on the next line says Grub Rescue> with the option to input commands. After looking at this forum and Ubuntu forums I'm still unable to resolve the issue. I would like to be able to boot into windows 7.

Unable To Install Windows 7 - Dynamic Partitions?

Apr 10, 2011

Damn Windows Update started installing a video card driver. My system is a Dell Vostro 430 and has an ATI HD 4350 (I think), but however, for some stupid reason it can only work with Dell's video driver. So when Windows Update installed the official driver for me, by the time I realised what it was doing it was too late. My screens went black; an incompatible driver screwed everything up.

Worse yet, it was still installing updates, so I was scared to turn my computer off in case it would create major problems. After waiting for four hours I decided it was time to pull the plug. After restarting the computer, it kept rebooting when it started loading Windows 7, and then soon after it didn't even get that far; it told me there was no compatible SATA device found and it refused to boot full stop. Trust this to happen at assignment hand-in week. I've got so much work to do.

I went to the library and downloaded an Ubuntu ISO and burned it to disc. I also got a legit ISO (I'm a student and use MSDN) of Windows 7 x86, since Windows 7 x64 had its problems with the software I use for my course. First of all I backed up all of my uni work using Ubuntu as a live CD, which worked okay. I moved other important data from my Windows (main) partition to my other partitions (Music, Games, TV/Films, etc) since I knew I was going to be formatting my system partition for a reinstallation.

I have two HDs installed. A 500GB one and a 1.5TB one. The drives seem to still be working since I could access them in Ubuntu. However, most of the partitions were formatted as dynamic partitions, not basic. It seemed that the partitions on my 500GB drive were basic, whereas the ones on my 1.5TB were dynamic. This is why it disallowed me to install Windows 7 on the 1.5TB drive. (It dislikes dynamic partitions for whatever reason.) However, I formatted the original basic system partition and started installing Windows 7 x86 on it. It got to 100% and was finalising installation, until it halted, told me the installation had failed, and that I'd need to restart and try again. Every time I have tried, it has failed at that point.

I don't know what the heck to do. I can't remove the partitions that exist because they contain a lot of data that I really want. I also have no means of backing up the data. I have no DVD discs left (and it would take a damn lot to back up hundreds of gigs), and no external HDs. Just for the sake of trying it out, I tried installing 7 x64 and got the same error, so I don't think it's x86-specific.

Moved Partitions - Unable To Boot Windows 7?

Jun 2, 2010

I have an Acer Aspire 1810TZ with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The HDD is 160GB.Yesterday I moved (without resizing!) both the 100MB system reserved partition and my 40GB C: partition towards the "beginning" of the HDD for the purpose of creating an unallocated space of some 110GB towards the "end" of the HDD. (The C: partition had previously been shrunk using Win7 disk management and the system worked fine after reboot prior to partition move).llowing the partition move I can however not boot into Windows anymore. Windows boot manager gives the following info:Status: 0xc0000225Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessibleThe boot manager also suggests I reinstall Windows, but of course the restore and rescue DVDs I burned based on Acer's eRecovery tool does not work.

Can't Boot Windows 7 Tried Ubuntu And Other

Sep 28, 2012

I've downloaded Bluestacks to sync my android apps with my pc and it worked just fine. Shortly after I've gotten a request from Microsoft to run some updates which I've accepted. I left my workstation and when I came back 2/3 of my desktop icons had vanished and there were about 30 application error windows on my screen. The pc was blocked and only CTRL+alt+del worked, so I've shut down the pc. Since then nothing worked. I can't boot Windows 7, can't start safemode. The only thing that works is F2 (Setup) and F12 (boot options), but I don't get far there.Remedies: I've tried the following without success:

1) Rebooted W7 from the CD, ran the repair option out of which system image won't work and although I see system restore points (I have bi-monthly points), I get an error abort message. So no luck there

2) I've downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 ISO on a UBS flashdrive and at least succeeded to get the initial Ubuntu screen but couldn't install (subinstall it under Windows 7 was suggested) and thus had no chance in recovering my files/docus/media. The computer goes back to the black screen with the blinking unusable cursor.

3) I've tried to follow the suggestion from your Tech JSntgRvr by downloading the "Farbar Recovery" program and execute it in the Window command prompt, but I get an error message that states:x:sources>i:frst.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. (with "i" being the drive where the usb flash was)So now I am out of my "very limited" wits.

Installing Windows 7 Over Ubuntu?

Dec 29, 2010

I'd like to start by saying I'm not very good with computers. I'm a complete noob, infact. Which is why it probably was not a good idea to install Ubuntu. But now, I am trying to rectify this problem. So I popped in the full install version of Windows 7 Home Premium and booted from the disk. I got up to the part where it asks me to select a partition. One is something like 293 GB with no free space, and the other is 8 GB with no free space. It won't let me install on either, and the reason it gives is something like it's not in NTFS format... I don't know what this means. And if you do choose to reply, act like you're talking to a preschooler, because I am when it comes to computers.

Cannot Install Windows 7 OEM Or Ubuntu 10.10

Mar 15, 2011

I have a new rig and I cannot install either my OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 or Ubuntu 10.10 x64.

When I try and install Windows, the installation goes through and then - just before it says 'Complete' - it says something along the lines of "Failed to make bootable" and then says press any key to restart.

When I try to install Ubuntu, I cannot select my preferred partition. And when I go into [Specify partitions manually] and select one, it says 'No root file system is defined. correct this from the partitioning menu.' And nothing I do can change this.
