I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I encountered a problem today with scanning using the printer (Printing was alright). I can only remember vaguely as I thought it some kind of connection error, I was using a USB cable and it was working find earlier. Spent hours googling to no avail, so I decided to use System Restore to restore to yesterday where it was working perfectly. So when the laptop started the process through -Control Panel> Recovery> Open system restore it logged out and everything, but hung at initializing for about 40 minutes, I googled that with another laptop and 99% of them said I should turn on my laptop with the button, then try the System Restore in the boot options when choosing the Repair Computer option. Guess what! That also didn't work. Well I started windows normally after the second power off, turned on without any problems, but then realized in the taskbar it shows the Ethernet wire connection for internet where I am connected wirelessly, I check my network adapters through Network & Sharing centre and the adapters are missing. I start panicking and instantly check device manager, its blank (Plug and Play is on). At that point I'm pissed off when I remember that when I started the laptop again, ATI gave me a message that no drivers were found. Have all my drivers been deleted? If my network adapters are missing, how am I connecting to the net? I also checked msconfig, tried a clean boot (Hopeless), but also noticed many Microsoft services are stopped. I just tried to scan again now to get an error message but the printer was not found, I figured this was from deleted devices?
I've discovered three problems with this laptop and think they all might be related? Windows Update not working with error 0x80070057 - I have searched the internet for help on this and tried suggestions like; starting/stopping wuauserv service, deleting WinUpd cache. System Restore not working; unable to create restore points or restore (the last point is from November), this gives error 0x81000101 Shadow Copy Timeout. Again searched and tried fixing all suggestions like making sure the SysRestore services are running. Device Manager is completely blank; also tried suggested repairs like setting correct permissions on Enum folder in registry. On top of the problem specific fix attempts I've also done the following general fixes: sfc /scannow - found problems but unable to fix repaired registry from RegBack reset all Services to default ran combofix and malwarebytes chkdsk /r removed McAfee have checked Windows & Sytem32 folder for correct user permissions I'm sure I've done a few other things but can't recall everything I've tried.Have also tried Windows Repair but stays at "Checking Compatibilty" for hours.Generally Windows seems to be fine except for these three issues; system is quick and general useage is without issues.

In my system I have three operating systems installed for me to boot into - Windows 7, XP & Ubuntu. Windows 7 is the default and probably even the most used one.The problem is that each time I boot into Windows XP, Windows 7's system restore points get wiped out totally. The same does not happen with XP though.
my brother's hdd in his laptop was going bad, it kept failing to boot. so i replaced it with another one. when i turned the laptop back on it started installing all the drivers for his hardware (windows was already installed on the 2nd hdd) and prompted me to reboot. after i did windows failed to start several times. i re-installed windows from scratch, and now his graphics card isn't showing up in device manager and windows cant find a driver for the network or ethernet card.
his specs: gateway windows 7 professional x64 ati mobility radeon hd 4250 broadcom bcm943225hm (network card) amd phenom II x4 n9790 4gb ddr3
System restore failed to extract the file. from the restore point. There was a disk failure during the restore. This might be caused by bad sectors on the disk. I get the same message, but with a different file name, with every restore point I try, and I have now tried all seven available restore points, going back to 30 Dec 2011. The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. I just dont believe the drive has that many bad sectors.
I was having issues with my optical drive and foolishly followed the advice of Emachines tech support. I performed a system restore to original factory settings that was supposed to move my user files to cbackup. It all failed. My computer now gets stuck on "Windows is loading setup files" or something, and the. I get a dialogue box saying installation failed and would continue after restart.I have tried using a system recovery disc, and get the same issues. I have tried to get it to boot in safe mode, last known good, and get the same error and restart cycle. Memory tests show no issues and I am at my last wit because there were important documents and photos I can't ever get back. I do have a backup drive but it was a few hundred gigs too small, and so I couldn't backup everything I need
My windows fonts were a wiped out after a windows 7 update. Just displayed garbage. Happened before and I just did a restore from before the update. Tried to go back but all restore point were gone this time. Got enough fonts back to run the system. How do I restore them all without re-install. Also tired to use powerpoint viewer but not working.
I have recently purchased and installed Win7 64 Bit which I have dual booted with the existing XP installation. My restore points are being wiped in Win 7 when I boot into XP, this issue is of course known and a remedy workaround proposed [URL]. However this does not work for me as when I restart XP the Win 7 drive just reappears in my computer as a different drive letter in the chain, i.e., if hide drive H it will reappear as drive F. My operating systems are on different physical hard drives. I have checked and the Win 7 restore points are still being wiped.
I purchased one of the family 3 pack Windows 7 disc for my family. I installed it on two computers but on one when I create a restore point on the computer it remains as long as I do not shut the computer down. Once the computer shuts down the restore point goes away and when trying to restore to a previous saved restore point all it says is that no restore points have been created. This is the first computer or I should say operating system I have had this problem. My question is since I can not find a fix if I have to reinstall Windows 7 from my three pack disc will it recognize the copy on my computer and just reinstall it or will it use my last remaining issue on that disc that has not been used?
My husband installed windows 7 yesterday and has managed to wipe everything off computer, including a lot of important and ireplacable things! How I could go about retrieving these items? I had no file back-u.
I click on Start go to Computer, Right Click then left click on Device Manager. Then nothing happens, huh? I try it again the look at my system and the CPU light blinks a few but not long and still nothing. I put the icon on the desktop and do the same thing, nothing. I type in Device Manager then it bring it up. It works that way but the shortcut is broken that is in the system.
Yesterday my laptop froze, i could do nothing. I reset the laptop, and upon restart it took long for everything to load, and then froze again, then i tried system restore in safe mode but just got blanc screens, also managed to open system restore on normal login but aslo still blanc screen, then i opened task manager, complete blanc screen everywhere, msconfig the same. As soon as i open browser the pc freezes, it has also given me bkue screen from time to time
My computer wouldn't boot to Windows, so I had to do an F11 system recovery. It reinstalled Vista and the OS began working again whereupon I used my disks to upgrade it to Windows 7. It installed with no problem. But when I looked for my text, photo and video files, they were all gone! However iTunes was able to reload my music library. It is my understanding that F11 system recoveries do not delete text and media files. But if that's true...
I just bought a new ASUS computer with Windows 7. I have a Macbook Pro and would like to transfer my photos and music onto my new computer. I have 2 external hard drives that work perfectly fine on my mac as well as other PCs. When I plug either of my external hard drives in they are recognized in device manager and say they are working properly but are not recognized in disk manager or under my computer...
I have an Acer Aspireone D255E Netbook, with Windows 7 Starter. I decided I wanted to restore the computer to factory default, and keep my User files. It ran all the way through until it said "Setup is starting services" then it said "Windows can not install this software to this hardware." This confuses me because it was working all the time, I never updated any hardware. So it gave me an option to restart the system and I do so. Then if I do nothing, it just continues looping to the "setup is starting services" screen and then the reboot. I tried pressing F8 to run system restore again, and get it back to factory default, but system recovery is not an option anymore. I tried loading in safe mode, and it wont load. I tried other options on the F8 boot menu and it all basically said to restart. This netbook doesn't have a cd or dvd drive. I do not have any flash drives. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could restore to factory default without purchasing a new dvd, cdrom, or flash drive? Or perhaps an alternate way to load DOS so I could delete whatever step its at on the installation so it could put the "Repair windows" option so I could run the factory restore?
I have a hp pavilion dv9700 running windows 7 home premium, and the atheros wireless device keeps disapearing out of the device manager and stops working sometimes it works again if i reboot ,i have tried a replacement but the same happens.
How do i figure out what driver or even component windows wants software for when in the device manager under other devices it lists an unknown device and windows update cannot find anything.
Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. I have not experienced this problem on any other pc running any version of windows 7, oh and the same happened with build 7264 x32 and the current install of build 7600 x64.
Have recently purchased a small usb inspection snake camera with led light and when testing it plugged it into two desktops computers (one xp pro not sure of the other as it was a network work computer) It automatically loaded the drivers and brought up a screen automatically with the realtime image.(no driver disc came with it). However plugging into my windows 7 64bit sony laptop it signals a connection beep, loaded drivers automatically but wouldn't open or show up on my computer disc manager as an external usb source to click on. It does however show up on device manager as a usb camera and when I unplug and replug in it disappears and reappears so I know I have the right camera (not the lap top webcam inbuilt one that shows USB 2 Camera). Have tried updating drivers automatically and uninstalling it etc. Need it to work on the lap top so it can act as the movable screen for it?
System Restore will not create a restore point or restore to a previous date & time. The error message was: A restore point could not be created: An error was detected in the Volume Shadow Copy Server (VSS).The problem occurred while trying to contact VSS writers. Verify that the Event System Sevice and the VSS service are running & check for associated errors in the event logs (0x80042318).Volume Shadow Copy is started & running (done in system events).Event System Sevice and the VSS service are started and running. But no cigar, SR still broken.
If i remove/uninstall 'High Definition Audio Device' Driver in Device Manager will Windows Update find it again?Because im having crackling issues basicly the sound is really choppy and choppy basicly and it makes my ram go to 100%
Does anyone know how to schedule/automate a rollback to a system restore point at a set time each day? What i'm trying to do is:1. Disable the standard system restore behavior for creating restore points when installing apps and drivers.2. Automatically/schedule a restore point to be created every morning. (probably using Task Scheduler)3. Automatically/schedule a rollback to that morning restore point every night. This should allow users to mess up the workstation during the day, and restore a working rollback point at night when users are not using a workstation.Updates are scheduled at nighttime, so before that happens, it should rollback to a good restore point, apply updates, then create a working "new" restore point with the updates in the morning....etc.
My device shows in device manager with yellow exclamation. when try to update it says my drives are up to date when i restart it tells me cant find suitable drives for this device.

When I disable the network controller in Device Manager, the controller is disabled but nothing changes in Device Manager to identify the device as being disabled. When I used to do the same thing in Windows XP, the device icon turned yellow. Is there some setting to identify disabled devices in Win 7's Device Manager?

After the last restart (after the updates) I notice that I am getthing this icon on the bottom right:And if I try to open the Volume controls it opens this window:I removed Windows Vista and now Im using Windows 7 (and thats why I came to this forum) in the hopes that it would fix the issue but it didnt.
