View 1 Repliesmy brother's hdd in his laptop was going bad, it kept failing to boot. so i replaced it with another one. when i turned the laptop back on it started installing all the drivers for his hardware (windows was already installed on the 2nd hdd) and prompted me to reboot. after i did windows failed to start several times. i re-installed windows from scratch, and now his graphics card isn't showing up in device manager and windows cant find a driver for the network or ethernet card.
his specs:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought an Acer Aspire 5532 from a friend of mine. Everything was working fine for days, until I powered down using the power button rather than the shut down button on-screen. Ever since then, when I turn on the computer it reads "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." I have the options to either 1. launch startup repair (which freezes the computer) or 2. Start windows normally (which takes me back to the start). I have no installation disk, I've tried safe mode (freezes) along with last good configuration?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I encountered a problem today with scanning using the printer (Printing was alright). I can only remember vaguely as I thought it some kind of connection error, I was using a USB cable and it was working find earlier. Spent hours googling to no avail, so I decided to use System Restore to restore to yesterday where it was working perfectly. So when the laptop started the process through -Control Panel> Recovery> Open system restore it logged out and everything, but hung at initializing for about 40 minutes, I googled that with another laptop and 99% of them said I should turn on my laptop with the button, then try the System Restore in the boot options when choosing the Repair Computer option. Guess what! That also didn't work. Well I started windows normally after the second power off, turned on without any problems, but then realized in the taskbar it shows the Ethernet wire connection for internet where I am connected wirelessly, I check my network adapters through Network & Sharing centre and the adapters are missing. I start panicking and instantly check device manager, its blank (Plug and Play is on). At that point I'm pissed off when I remember that when I started the laptop again, ATI gave me a message that no drivers were found. Have all my drivers been deleted? If my network adapters are missing, how am I connecting to the net? I also checked msconfig, tried a clean boot (Hopeless), but also noticed many Microsoft services are stopped. I just tried to scan again now to get an error message but the printer was not found, I figured this was from deleted devices?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway T-6836, updated to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit a few months ago from Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I've had it for about 2 years, After 1 year a virus killed it, and I reformatted it. Now, a few months ago, unknowingly, my flash drive contracted a virus from my school's pc and infected my laptop. I think I most likely deleted the malware or whatever it was, but it left some side effects, such as some services being unable to start. It was also at the same time I installed a windows update, so I'm not sure if it's both a malware problem and/or a Microsoft problem. It deleted all my system restore points after I restarted the computer.
My laptop is completely isolated from the world. No internet, fails to detect anything in the usb slots, and the CD-rom is brokenWhen I'm not connected to a network, there's a yellow asterisk sign, when I'm connected there's a big red X button and I get 'limited connectivity.' When I try to troubleshoot the problem, it gives me "The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running" Tried to repair it and failed. I tried starting it manually in Services but that gives me "Windows could not start the Diagnostic Policy Service service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied."Tried perfmon /repair failed. It gave me an error:"Error:An error occured whiled attempting to generate the report.
I am running windows 7 32-bit and a few days ago I installed a windows update. When my computer restarted it entered the loading screen, but then the screen went black and after failing to load windows, gave me the option to start system repair. I did, and was subsequently able to run system restore, which took me back to before the update and my computer started normally again. I turned off automatic updating, but today when I restarted my pc the update installed again. Tried running startup repair, but there is no more option to enter system restore. When startup repair finishes, it says it can't automatically fix the problem. Upon entering advance restore options and selecting system restore, it indicates that the specified action could not be located and in any other instance says that system restore is offline.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am thinking of setting this service to manual, as this is a home machine. It does, however, have a wireless network running to which I've attached 4 devices (two laptops, a printer and an Xbox - but that's wired to the router).Supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this computer. If this service is stopped, these functions will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. 99% of me is sure that the above statement applies to a workstation in a production environment but I wanted to make sure and bounce it off a few of you folks.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently built a new rig and I had a problem with one stick of memory. The other stick worked alright, but I've been getting random failures. Can bad memory be inconsistent? Right now, I can't start my OS up at all. It goes straight to the Windows Repair Launcher, which fails. When it gets there, I can either find a restore point or let it 'attempt to fix' for as long as I can endure. The restore point option results in 'instruction xxx failed. memory reference xxx failed.'This leads me to believe there is a problem with the memory. But, could it be the motherboard? I played a video game for hours last night, as well as surfed the web and ran other applications. Everything was fine, until I shut down. This isn't the first time this happened. Last time, I 'fixed' it by switching the 'good' memory stick with the bad. The bad resulted in getting the OS up, but lots of BSOD's
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince early August all my Security updates have been failing. It adds time to each boot up period as it goes through the updates and then at the end will say it's failed and is reverting all the changes. I have already done some research on this issue and ran "sfc/scannow" as well as "chkdsk/f/r." Both seemed to go through with no problems. After that I did a Windows update and 12 updates seemed to go through with no problem until the required reboot where we're back to the same issue of failing and reverting.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend has had this laptop for the past year or so, March 2010; and just recently her laptop decided to stop booting. Every time I try to boot windows it gives me a BSOD. All I have is the boot/repair disk from 2010; however it isn't working properly when I try to repair the OS or boot from the disk. It's a toshiba and it came with a repair program, but it also removes data on the HDD. Is there a link to a proper boot disk that I can maybe download to a flash drive and boot from there and repair? Or is there at least an easy way to pull the information off of her HDD before using the Toshiba program? Is it possible to just plug in the laptop to my computer, turn it on and access it from my personal computer? I also have an OEM version of Windows 7 from when I built my own computer, can I use that to repair her OS or will it recognize that it's not the same computer and fail? I know, lots of questions, you don't have to answer them in sequence, just tell me what would work best .
Note: She does NOT have a restore point on her laptop, I was able to get that far on my own before I decided to ask on this forum.
I got a BSOD during a windows update (I think it was something related to .net 4).Since then when I start windows it gets to the loading bar with windows logo over it but then I get a black screen, same thing for safe mode. I have tried to repair with a win 7 installation disk but it fails, I tried to do a systeme restore after that but it failed too.I have access to an old working partition (which I cloned onto my SSD a couple month ago)

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've done a fresh install of Windows 7 yesterday on my desktop PC and I want to use the virtual PC for some USB hardware that doesn't have any x64 drivers.
I can choose the USB devices fine in the virtual machine, they are detected and XP starts the usual hardware install wizard.
However one of my devices gets the yellow exclamation mark in the device manager with a code 10 (device cannot start).
The virtual machine runs XP SP3, my laptop runs XP SP3 as well and there is no problem on there with this hardware. This leads me to believe that it might be a windows 7 Vmachine issue that is causing this.
I've tried removing the hardware and installing it again, but that didn't solve the problem.
Any ideas for a possible solution?
