I have uninstalled and reinstalled (admin) the latest driver several times. I dont have any USB 3 devices yet and have nothing plugged into a USB 3. I am starting to think my last option is to disable all USB 3 on my computer but when I get a USB 3 I will be screwed.

A few months ago I got a hold of a copy of windows 7 pro 32, so I wanted to check it out, even If I was going to take a hit on ram. Well now I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64, but after doing a fresh install I kept getting BSOD after the windows logo. I was able to complete the setup after removing all my ram except for one stick. The same problem persists after setup. I can boot up in safe mode just fine with all of my ram.

I am able to use safe mode fine (which I'm using now) and have tried doing numerous scans and fixes such as SFC-Scannow, Norton Antivirus and System Restore but each one cannot find any threats. Close to the time this started happening, I turned off my laptop by the power switch instead of using the "Start" menu as it was taking ages to switch off.

But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

I'll wake up the next morning, press the power button on the computer, and receive the "windows did not shut down correctly" black screen error. The install stops at the start asking for CD/DVD Device drivers.

I have tried the Vista drivers on Asus homepage, they wont accept them, anyone know a solution?
my Sony Handycam DCR-HC96 is not automatically recognized by my Windows 7. Troubleshooting asks for installation of Sony USB device driver. Official Sony page asks for 29.99 for that which seems too expensive.

Have tried to resolve issue with Canon powershot S50 connected by USB no longer functioning with W7.On occasions the only response is the pop up message driver device failed to install.The camer is recognised under " Device and Printers" When I trouble shoot response is to visit manufacturers site and download driver - not required under Windows compatibility listing.Have gone to Device Manager and removed all reference to Canon Camera under Portable devices but get same result. Have had a Microsoft IT tech look at the computer but he is at a loss.
