View 2 Replies View RelatedSo the other day I wake up to log on to my Alienware M17x m1, which was running windows 7 ultimate x64 sp1. As it's booting up, I see the message operating system missing. So I grab my USB thumb drive (my cd/DVD drive does not work, thus I have to use windows 7 on USB). Tried to reinstall windows that way, but was getting some partition error of some sort. Now when I try to boot up with USB, I can't even get to the windows 7 installation screen. I get - The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP laptop that had Windows 7 installed on it, one day i got a message saying there were updates available, which included Service pack 1. So, i went ahead with the install however, when my system rebooted after the install there was an error message (i cant remember what it said, it was a while ago) so i immediately tried to put my windows 7 disk in, which would not boot. I have gone into bios and changed it so that it was the first boot item but still didn't work, even with F8, F12 etc. So i decided to borrow a recovery disk from a friend, it is a general one of the internet, i went through the repair options which didn't work, so i decided to format the hard drive which was successful. So now when you boot, as you would expect, you get a no operating system message. I try to put my Windows 7 disk back in to install it fresh but it still wont work, its like theres nothing in the cd drive.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer wouldn't boot to Windows, so I had to do an F11 system recovery. It reinstalled Vista and the OS began working again whereupon I used my disks to upgrade it to Windows 7. It installed with no problem. But when I looked for my text, photo and video files, they were all gone! However iTunes was able to reload my music library. It is my understanding that F11 system recoveries do not delete text and media files. But if that's true...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I encountered a problem today with scanning using the printer (Printing was alright). I can only remember vaguely as I thought it some kind of connection error, I was using a USB cable and it was working find earlier. Spent hours googling to no avail, so I decided to use System Restore to restore to yesterday where it was working perfectly. So when the laptop started the process through -Control Panel> Recovery> Open system restore it logged out and everything, but hung at initializing for about 40 minutes, I googled that with another laptop and 99% of them said I should turn on my laptop with the button, then try the System Restore in the boot options when choosing the Repair Computer option. Guess what! That also didn't work. Well I started windows normally after the second power off, turned on without any problems, but then realized in the taskbar it shows the Ethernet wire connection for internet where I am connected wirelessly, I check my network adapters through Network & Sharing centre and the adapters are missing. I start panicking and instantly check device manager, its blank (Plug and Play is on). At that point I'm pissed off when I remember that when I started the laptop again, ATI gave me a message that no drivers were found. Have all my drivers been deleted? If my network adapters are missing, how am I connecting to the net? I also checked msconfig, tried a clean boot (Hopeless), but also noticed many Microsoft services are stopped. I just tried to scan again now to get an error message but the printer was not found, I figured this was from deleted devices?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn my system I have three operating systems installed for me to boot into - Windows 7, XP & Ubuntu. Windows 7 is the default and probably even the most used one.The problem is that each time I boot into Windows XP, Windows 7's system restore points get wiped out totally. The same does not happen with XP though.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
"Missing operating system" massage is coming when i start my system and i am not able to start. I think because , i had given "mark partition as active" option for one hard dive (E) in disk management when last time i opened. it did not have any data. i did not know, this will make any problem. Now i am not able to boot windows re installation dvd also. i can only take BIOS settings.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried to shut down my laptop, the "Installing update, do not shut down or power off your computer" screen appears but my battery died during the update. And now when I startup the "Launch start up repair" appears and when i click it, I get stuck on a blue flower wallpaper screen thing and nothing appears. All i can see is the wallpaper and the mouse cursor.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNew laptop, it was shut down or closed during the update and now is frozen on the 7 of 8 screen and just hangs there. I cannot reboot and it did not come with a recovery disk. I can't get it to come off this screen at all. I tried shutting it off but an orange light flashes and when I turn it back on it's still on that screen. Since I have no recovery cd or repair CD what do I need to do? If I have to restore I really could care less as I don't have too much on it because it's new. Maybe some photos but whatever.
