I have looked into the startup repair loop problem a bit and have tried the advanced repair option but when it prompts me for a login and password, it only gives the option to log in as "updatususer".

i am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit on my core i3 lennovo laptop
Problem is that i have been running a 2nd monitor and about a month ago the laptop screen went crazy and stopped working but the monitor kept working so i just went along with that. All has been fine but 2 days ago a tried to log in and the computer froze so i manually restarted it to find the startup repair come up, it did its thing, restarted a few times over a day and then it said that the problem could not be repaired, i tried it again and the same thing happened.I saw the infinite loop tutorial so i tried it and got to the final stages and it said that the action could bot be performed because of an i/o error.I searched around and saw that people have used chkdisk And sfc scannow. I tried these but kep geting the same messge about the i/o error.

Every time the computer is turned on or restarted it runs Starup Repair. When i look at the diagnosis it says 'boot critical file c:\ci.dll is corrupt'. I have already tried to restore the computer but i don't have the discs where i have backed up the computer. I have also run a virus scan with Avira and it did pick up 4 viruses and i removed them but the error still occurs.

yesterday i was watching a show on my computer (sony vaio) and it kept freezing and lagging and wouldn't restart so i manually restarted it. when i tried to turn it on it would say "starting up windows" but it would take to long and it would restart again with error repair. when i would load error repair it would say it's loading files but only a background screen would show and no files.

my computer, a toshiba satellite L655D-S5159, has been broken recently. At first, I got an infinite startup repair loop, because of a corrupted registry. I checked the registry files and they are all 256kb. I tried to run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /f /r, but that didn't do anything. Then I tried to run bootrec rebuildbcd, and now I'm getting error 0xc0000225 at startup.

I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.

I have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?

the Startup screen. So I went to the Startup repair tool as was recommended, but after few tries nothing has changed. So I tried to recover to previous recovery point, but also nothing. Then I tried booting to Safe mode, and I saw that during the loading process there was no file shown as succesfully loaded. I might also know what could be the cause of this problem, because yesterday when I was shutting Win down, there was a blackout so obviusly some files are corrupted.

I hate it when this happens and so far, the startup repair has always been able to fix the problem. Today, I'm not so lucky.
I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Running W7 Home premium sp1 on Zoostorm Intel 3Ghz i5 8Gb RAM. Each time I shut down I get: 2 windows updates that need to be installed. I looked in the database on PCA forums and thought I had found the solution, following the instructions that apparently came from MS site, and did the following, went into services stopped updates, changed the folder Windows> Software Distribution added OLD to the file name. Returned to services reactivated the updates and rebooted. However this does not seemed to have cured the problem. If I go to Update history, the following update shows 5 times as being a successful installed :Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656351)running Belarc Advisor it shows two copies of this KB2656351 as two critical updates still required by the computer.

I could use an assist in trying to get the download to stop. I tried restarting my computer and shut it down completely and restarted. Nothing has worked.

It started automatically in the middle of the night and nearly 24 hrs later it's still going. I tried to stop it and a window pops up saying it can't be stopped. Every 5 min or so the computer restarts and the Startup Repair continues. I've tried to stop it during the startup with alt F2 but I don't get any choices such as Safe Start, only Start Windows Normally.

Whilst looking for a keygen for Microsoft Office 2010, I must have got a bad file.. yay. When I clicked on the app, my computer immediately went to the Startup Repair window and has been relentless. I've tried opening in SafeMode thru F8 for a system restore, no good. And attempted to start windows normally through F12.
Finally, the Startup mode is over and I'm attempting to turn it back on ... and we're right back into Startup Repair.

My laptop keeps running Startup Repair during every startup and I can't boot my computer normally. I tried running Startup Repair multiples times but I'm still getting the same problem. Also, System Recovery did not work. What happens is Windows just starts to boot up for a few seconds, it says "Windows Starting", then the screen goes black for a second and it says "Windows is loading files..." and a loading bar fills up, then it goes black for a while and then the startup repair starts. The Startup Repair then says it cannot repair this computer automatically so I have to shutdown the computer. Problem signature:Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOfflineProblem Signature.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which is only a few months old. Here is the problem: i was trying to uninstall the trial version of office 2010 (after failing to activate it properly) and after going into control panel and clicking on "uninstall" to remove the office 2010 software, the computer automatically shut down and restarted and went into startup repair. after running this a couple of times, it said it was unable to fix the problems and asked to send the report to microsoft. then it just shut off by itself. i turned it back on and chose to "start windows normally." even then it went into startup repair and was again unable to fix the problems. then it just became stuck with a blank screen so i had to force power off. now i am not sure what to do. i don't want to keep restarting it only to go into startup repair and burn something out by turning it on and off so frequently.

Windows 7 (32 bit) will not start. All I see is the 0X0000007b message."Starup repair" is no good either. When you run startup repair it goes in cirkles: It begins the start up, but you get 0x000007b. Computer rebootes. You can choose "startup Repair" og "start windows normally".You then choose "startup repair". It begins the start up, but you get 0x000007b. Computer rebootes. Etc., etc.. And you can not start windows normally either. It all began when Norton found something that needed to be taken care off. What can be done to fix the boot?Shal I use the "Farbar recovery Scan tool"?I'm not quite sure how it works... Are there other things that can be done?Anything that demands you to use windows one way or another is not possible for the time being as you see.

A few people have said do a fresh install of W7 but he has loads of pics and music on there that i dont want to lose. Can i do an reinstall without losing data? ah, but, plum of the day award could go to me as the problem could be hidden in one of those files??OR do i take his HDD out and back up only the necessary files he wants to keep, then put it back and do a custom install from there?
