Some type of file download has been going on for over an hour. May have to do with Exlporer. Ink whatever that is. There is no Estimated time left indicated. I could use an assist in trying to get the download to stop. I tried restarting my computer and shut it down completely and restarted. Nothing has worked.
View 1 RepliesRunning W7 Home premium sp1 on Zoostorm Intel 3Ghz i5 8Gb RAM. Each time I shut down I get: 2 windows updates that need to be installed. I looked in the database on PCA forums and thought I had found the solution, following the instructions that apparently came from MS site, and did the following, went into services stopped updates, changed the folder Windows> Software Distribution added OLD to the file name. Returned to services reactivated the updates and rebooted. However this does not seemed to have cured the problem. If I go to Update history, the following update shows 5 times as being a successful installed :Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656351)running Belarc Advisor it shows two copies of this KB2656351 as two critical updates still required by the computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was instructed to remove my antivirus software and reinstall it by avast. They said to run their tool in safe mode. Try to start computer in safe mode and it gets just so far and reboots. I set MSConfig to boot as safemode/minimal. Do that and restart. Endlessly restarts - safe mode will not load, it just gets so far and then reboot.My computer will not start now at all. Can not get a command prompt, safe mode, and could not do a restore for some unknown reason.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had the computer for about a year, a custom build...it's been working fine, then all of a sudden the problem started & now I'm suffering serious lag & slow down even with the most simple tasks (like clicking on the start icon) the HDD light is on continually & I can hear the drive clicking away. It never stops. (Starts when the windows loading screen comes on)Boot time is also incredibly slow around 10 minutes to boot up.I've just done a clean install of Windows 7 pro x 64 and the problem still persists...no other software installed other than my graphics & sound card drivers.The workstation isn't connected to the net I use a laptop for all that/this.On Task Manager my CPU is 0% & my Memory 6% which is fine..The drive is a Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7,200 SATA II.The programs causing this are mostly with-in "System" & SVChost" processes on the HDD.

Windows service profile
RtBackup
NTFS free space map
NTFS master file table
Winevt logs
I have read many threads about these type of problems but with never any clarification.I've got a ton of work to do...and I cant even open control panel under 1 minute right now.
I have ran the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app with the results attached. I attempted to run PERFMON report but was unsuccessful (Error: cannot find specified path).
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and this is the original OS that was preinstalled with my laptop (ASUS G60VX). The system is approximately 2.5 years old and I have never re-installed the OS.
I continuously run system mechanic to monitor and clean out the drive and also use Norton 360 to supplement system mechanic. The system was gradually slowing down and occassionally freezing up. I upgraded the CPU with a T9600 chip and the system seemed to run fine but the temps definitely increased (fan constantly running but rpms varying with temps); I use SpeedFan to monitor temps. The lagging once again started so I had a deep scan and repair of the hard drive performed; took all night to run. This was done approximately one week ago. The system afterward now continually shuts down (BSODs) with no rhyme or reason. I do not know if it is hardware (GPU or hard drive) or software. I have re-installed the original CPU to see if this was the problem but the BSODs continue.
I am capable of operating in Windows Safe Mode with Networking.

I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.

But I have four system icons on the desktop, two of which I want to keep and two that I'd like to get rid of. The two keepers are the My Computer and Network icons, the two I don't wan to see are the Home Group and Library icons. This machine is the only Win-7 box on the network so Home Group is moot, and I do not expect to explicitly use Libraries any time soon. So the associated icons are just clutter on the desktop. For whatever reason, the two keepers include a "delete" option in their right click menus but the two I actually want to delete don't. So, how do I get them off the desktop? I don't think any of the four were present on the desktop when I completed the installation, and I don't remember what I did to get them to show up.
