I am encountering an interesting problem in which windows 7 shows either a software application and a bare desktop backgroup with no intereaction or the full desktop backgrouond with no applications shown only files, links etc.

While I work on worksheets, I often save the files to the desktop for easy attachment to emails when I have completed my work. On two occasions now I have been saving the files to the desktop as I usually do but when I go to the desktop the files are not there.If I look in the desktop folder, they are there. Running 64 bt Windows 7 Professional and scan for Malware yielded no issues.
p.s. When I reboot the files do appear on the desktop ....
I did a search on this and could not find anything. Once in awhile my desktop will have a bunch of random files I deleted a long time ago. I always empty it too. There won't be anything in the recycle bin or on the desktop and then I'll go to look at it after awhile and some other group of files will be there. I have tried the whole "rd /s /q C:$Recycle.bin" on every drive on my computer. Windows is installed on C:. It isn't even the same group of files each time, it is just random files I've deleted over the past 2 months. I noticed a folder for a demo install of InDesign comes up a lot and says it is in use when I try to re-delete it, could Adobe's crap software be breaking it?
Windows 7 64 Ultimate, 12 gigs of ram, I7 processor. Hard drives are at most half full.
I am running WIN7 64 Bit, BT wireless hub. Have added a laptop (also running WIN7 64 bit) to home network and set up HP Photosmart Premium 309g printer as 'wireless'. It works a treat with the laptop but my desktop computer tells me the printer is off line.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the last few days my Toshiba Satellite L745-S43210 hasn't been working right. Recently it won't boot up properly. It started to boot up and then it would freeze up seconds after showing my desktop. I managed to go into safe mode and use msconfig to change start up programs and turn it to only the essential items. After that it worked and I tried turning everything back on and it worked fine last night. I assumed it was just overheating from being used so much in the last few days. Now today when I tried starting it up I was able to enter my password but the screen went black with my mouse pointer working. I turned it off and tried again a few times before going into safe mode.
I went back into msconfig again and turned it back to only essential programs and I performed a virus scan with Super Anti-Spyware and Malware Bytes and the only thing that they found were cookies. I cleared them out and booted up windows again and it worked fine. Now I am trying to select only certain programs and choose only the Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba programs/services and now when I boot it up I don't even get the the text box to enter my password, it just shows the blue windows start up screen. Right now I am using Safe Mode With Networking to type this and try messing with start up programs again.

I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded a Win-XP home system to Win-7 Home Premium. Everything went fine. But I have four system icons on the desktop, two of which I want to keep and two that I'd like to get rid of. The two keepers are the My Computer and Network icons, the two I don't wan to see are the Home Group and Library icons. This machine is the only Win-7 box on the network so Home Group is moot, and I do not expect to explicitly use Libraries any time soon. So the associated icons are just clutter on the desktop. For whatever reason, the two keepers include a "delete" option in their right click menus but the two I actually want to delete don't. So, how do I get them off the desktop? I don't think any of the four were present on the desktop when I completed the installation, and I don't remember what I did to get them to show up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo in Windows 7, whatever applications you have pinned to the start menu sometimes have a triangle facing out, and if you click on that triangle, it will show the recent documents you've worked with that application. As the title says, there is one application that just won't show the list no matter how many times I click on the triangle. However, other applications DO show that list. How is it that only one application is causing trouble while others aren't?
