View 4 Replies View RelatedI was as is usually the case yesterday, to accept 8 important updates when I cam to close down my PC. I did this and after a while it closed down no problem. However, today upon starting, it was saying "preparing desktop" and it was as though I had done a clean install with all my icons gone from the task bar, and no wallpaper appearing either? I have since read online that other people were having problems including BSoD etc?! I have since using system restore, gotten it back to normal although I have had to ignore the updates again so as not to end up at square one?!

View 4 Replies View Relatedthese latest Updates have caused my various folders...music, downloads, images, docs....all my self made folders to disappear from the desktop. In addition Windows reverted back to default settings, I lost all my Firefox favourites and FF wasn't recognised anymore as my default browser, Windowes themes all reverted to default....basically a big scramble and mess. I did system restore and am back to normal...but Windows still wants to update.
What should I do? These updates are messing my PC up...but the updates are listed as 'critical'..
After the latest Win 7 updates on three of my computers, the CD drive does not read blank CDs. It gives an error message "Windows cannot read the disk in drive E:"etc, format the disk etc.I was always able to put a blank CD in the drive and see that it was blank or could copy files to drive. Now, it only gives me this message. I tried several different blank CDs. They work fine in my older XP computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was running both x64 & x86 version of Windows 7 RC1 build 7100 quite well till now.
I downloaded the images from MS.
Today suddenly my x64 gave the BSOD..
At the end of BSOD some ACPI error is mentioned
I downloaded the new updates & system was installing them when BSOD occured...
The strange thing is that I tried to repair thru every possible means from safe mode to EMS & by starting from the DVD but it failed.(Every try ends at BSOD)
Now the problem is When I try to boot from the x64 DVD(from which I installed) after "Loading files" the BSOD comes when screen says Windows Starting. Even before the glowing animation!
I disconnected my all HDD drives but still no success.
I need to uninstall every update that followed service pack 1, because they have all been causing me problems

I am having difficulty with drivers on my Acer Aspire 5253 system using Win 7. It is a couple months old. Within the last month, I have been getting random blue screen of death error messages in which the computer shuts down to prevent damage. The computer boots up fine without any problems. The blue screen that I see contains the same information each time.

In the morning when I switched on my laptop there is no display. So I attached an external monitor. When I put the windows 7 dvd, the hp logo comes and then there is a dash ( I dont get the press any key to boot) and then I get "Setup is starting services" error. When I press Ok. The same procedure is repeated.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOccasionally when I start up my HP ProBook 4520s I get an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.". When this happens all task bars go grey and there is no longer a Windows theme. Basically looks like a really old version of windows. Also when I try restart it takes about 15 minutes to reboot. Most of the time a reboot fixes the problem temporarily.
I tried looking in the system log, but there are so many items from the last 15minutes and I cannot figure out which one corresponds to the error.

- When I turn the computer on windows takes a long time to load, about 5 times longer than usual
- My keyboard now does not work (tried others to be sure)

I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, I found the media keys on my keyboard stopped working. I tried the keyboard on my laptop, and everything was ok, so reasone dit must be my desktop. I traced the problem to the HID service- on my laptop it was runnig, on my desktop it was not. It is set to start automatically, and when I try to manually start it, it fails and produces error 1083: "The executable program this service is configured to run in does not implement the service."

I am running windows 7 ultimate x64.

(might be related) Some days ago windows tried to install some updates but failed several times. Every time I restarted the PC it said the updates failed to install and then I had to re-download them.
So I can't use windows update to search for new updates at the moment.
As I open windows update, and check for updates, after a while it gives me an error:
"Windows could not search for new updates. An error occured while checking for updates for your computer. Error(s) found: Code 80073712."
I have also tried Windows Readiness Tool, it doesn't fix my computer, I still can't check for updates successfully.
When I try to install W7SP1, I get an error message after it tries to install after restarting after having downloaded it in Windows Update. It's error code 0x800f0826. IT used to be 0x80071a9, but I fixed that I think.
Note: My laptop does not have a built in disc reader, because of its design, nor did it come with any W7 CD's.
In an attempt to log on to Windows 7, I could not get to the desktop and the error message: "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service." It also, said, "Location is not available: C:Windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop." I ran system restore and was able to get the desk top screen, however, nothing responded and in an attempt to shut down, I had to hit control/alt/del which now has me stuck in Logging off.....
