"Failed To Connect To A Windows Service" On Startup

May 8, 2012

Occasionally when I start up my HP ProBook 4520s I get an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.". When this happens all task bars go grey and there is no longer a Windows theme. Basically looks like a really old version of windows. Also when I try restart it takes about 15 minutes to reboot. Most of the time a reboot fixes the problem temporarily.

I tried looking in the system log, but there are so many items from the last 15minutes and I cannot figure out which one corresponds to the error.

Failed To Connect To A Windows Service

Feb 8, 2011

I booted my computer this morning and I could tell that something wasn't completely right. It took an incredibly long time to get to the user account selection, didn't play the startup sounds, and when I finally log in, the Windows Aero theme had been set to the classic one similar to Windows 2000. I tried to restart the computer and it couldn't do it because it was waiting for the log off sound, which wasn't playing. I clicked force restart and the computer just sat at the desktop. After a hard reboot, I started Windows normally and in the lower right corner I got a message saying that Windows failed to connect to a Windows Service.

After turning on my computer today it fails to connect to the internet or windows service. My computer doesn't acknowledge my internet network and now at the bottom right of my desktop says Windows 7 is not genuine when it is. I did a system restore several days back and the problem still persists. I just failed to use Malwarebytes even in Safe Mode + Networking because it is now corrupt, missing files, or mabservices is down. I did a virus scan with indexes last updated feb 28th and found nothing.

Failed To Connect To Windows Service - Standard User Cannot Login

May 5, 2011

"Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service". This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond. This is the error message I receive when I log on to my computer. It doesn't seem to happen every time I log on but probably 50% of the time. When this error appears the only things I seem to notice differently are that the audio doesn't work and the windows tool bar's graphics are basic (as if i was in safe mode).

Failed To Connect To System Event Notification Service / Slow Boot

Apr 22, 2010

My computer recently started having issues........ here is what is going on:

* boot computer
* Windows boot screen displayed ~ 1 minute
* screen goes black. Can move mouse. Drive light constantly on, not blinking. ~ 5 minutes
* log in screen comes up / log in
* Desktop loads ~ 1 minute > sometimes it loads with regular windows aero theme other times it loads with basic windows classic theme.
* Error message pop up "failed to connect to System event notification service"
* Have to wait for about 5 more minutes before computer is actually usable
* Occasionally the audio service does not work as well...

From when I press the power button to when I can actually use my computer takes 10 - 15 minutes. Here is what I have tried so far:

* Turning off all start up programs / services
* Uninstalled AVG anti virus
* PC Tools Registry mechanic registry clean up
* Tested Memory - passed
* Hard Drive Self Test ---- # 1 - 7 fail / #10008 Fail > I am guessing that this is the source of the problem, however my computer does still work once everything is finally booted. So I don't know what to do with that information or if that test even matters.
* I have tried looking at the event viewer but every time it says that the event log service is unavailable > I try turning on Windows Event Log but that does not change anything
* I tried "netsh winsock reset" in command prompt, based on a different thread that I found - it didn't work

Possible useful information:

Windows 7 Professional x64 upgraded from vista
Avg Anti Virus
PC tools Registry mechanic
HP pavilion dv2000 (dv2915nr)
Intel Core 2 Duo: T5550, 1830 Mhz
4gb ram upgraded from 3 gb

"Failed To Connect To A Windows Service" Error Message

Nov 22, 2012

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and have been for years. I have had no problems previously that I was unable to fix.

This morning when starting up my pc I got the error message "Failed to connect to a windows service" In addition it has defaulted to windows classic theme and I can not re enable Aero.

I looked at the Event log but it is simply beyond my level of understanding how to address the errors. Also all errors shown seem to be relativity longstanding/ recurring.

When I Start The Computer Up It Says "the User Profile Service Service Failed The Login?

Oct 6, 2011

I have a Dell XPS M1730 with Windows 7 Ultimate and it was doing an iTunes update and the lid got closed during the update process. Now when I start the computer up it says "the user profile service service failed the login, user profile cannot be loaded". The computer starts up in safe mode and won't let me do a system restore because it says it is shut off.When I look at User Profiles in Windows 7, it states that the users profile is as backup and the default profile is the local profile. How can I fix my computer to get my user profile back up and working?

Admin Account On Windows 7 Says User Profile Service Failed

May 3, 2012

So I only have one account on my computer and its my admin account and when I log on it say user profile service failed to log on. I've read a bunch of stuff online and so far nothing has worked for me. I really need to solve this problem so I can get back to using my computer. I don't have any system backups so I need to be able to solve this without one. When I open my computer in safe mode I get an error that says c:windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop refers to a file that is unavailable. I cant get into cmd mode in regular safe mode but I opened safe mode with cmd and put in a few different things online I found, one was net user administrator /active:yes and the other was something similiar but with no at the end. Both cmd's were accepted but they did nothing.

The User Profile Service Failed To Login

I have a Windows Vista CPU that was updated a few months ago to Windows 7 Home Premium. Last week, we could no longer log on to this CPU and received the message in the title. Please note, we know the password...The machine no longer recognizes it, We only have one account on the CPU which is an administrator. So, we simply cannot log on to the machine normally. However, I can log on in Safe Mode. I changed the password in Safe Mode, restarted, went to the normal login screen, and still cannot log in with the new password. I have yet to find help for my specific problem.

Well today I tried logging in and the message "user profile service failed login..." came up after which the system restarted. I tried doing a system restore, but it came up with an error 0x8000ffff. Able To Make Users But Not Profiles - Service Failed

May 25, 2010

I tried to make a second admin account with my main account, which is an admin, for testing purposes and when I try to sign in, whether I set a password or not, it says, "User Profile Service Failed. User Profile Cannot Be Loaded" I've made multiple accounts, standard and admin. None of them will sign in. There is no folder under "Users" that has the same name, and I tried looking in regedit and only found the main profile I use. I am under the impression that the profile service is supposed to create a new folder once the new user signs in, but I cannot sign in as new users.

I tried making an account using the true admin login, but clicking on the link to manage other users does nothing under this username; not even a single process comes up. In addition, Admin's desktop is blank, Admin's search feature in the start menu doesn't work, and I get an error message that says it has trouble loading the temp profile. I also tried running the startup disk, went into the cmd, and used the command "sfc /scannow." It said to reboot and run sfc again, so I logged into my normal profile and ran the same command in an admin level cmd, only to have it come up clean. I am out of ideas, and I don't want to have to perform a reinstall.
