Disabled All Startup Programs And Non-windows Service
Jul 26, 2011
My windows7 startup was very slow.I disabled all startup programs and non-windows services but still got the problem. Then I checked my event viewer and WTF! So many errors and warnings in Boot performance monitoring.Take a look:what are these errors. One more thing that after entering password desktop appears after 15 seconds and taskbar and desktop icons appears after 1 or 2 minutes. Until then computer is unusable. But after then it become normal.

I have two external USB drives, one independently-powered, one USB-cable-powered, both with NTFS and linux ext2 and ext3 partitions. Under Windows 7 both drives show up under Device Manager with the Property: "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)".
None of their partitions show up in "My Computer". (BTW, the partitions are all good and they are all usable from the linux side of my dualboot system.) I probably disabled the guilty service(s) myself. To get Windows 7 to work reasonably, I disabled all the services I thought I wouldn't need.
Which service(s) do I have to look at to get the disks to work again? The powered disk is a Hitachi HTS545016B9A300 and the unpowered one is the internal disk from my previous laptop, a "Seagate Desktop USB Device," both as reported by the Device Manager.

My windows 7 has DCOM Service Disabled - Windows wont start in any mode!Ive tried Safemode, safemode command prompt etc and I just get a black screenI can access CMD.exe using repair mode from the installation disk but not sure how to change services control manager settings from the command line. The systemroot is on D:Iv thought of some routes like, changing the registry or perhaps a batch file running on start up but not sure of how or where to place and enter into startup at the right time.

I've changed a few of my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit services Startup Type from "Automatic" to either "Manual" or "Disabled" based on the "safe" recommendations at Black Viper's site. The changes have been successful with one exception. Note: This is my home PC, I am the sole user and administrator and this machine is not part of any network nor is it used for any peer-to-peer computer communication.I've changed the "IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules" service Startup Type from Automatic to Disabled. However when the PC is subsequently started from a cold boot or a restart this service always reverts to a Startup Type of Automatic. There are no other services dependent upon this service. I've made multiple attempts with the same result. How can I determine what is causing the reversion from Disabled to Automatic? Is there a Windows log or a 3rd party tool that can isolate the culprit?

I am thinking of setting this service to manual, as this is a home machine. It does, however, have a wireless network running to which I've attached 4 devices (two laptops, a printer and an Xbox - but that's wired to the router).Supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this computer. If this service is stopped, these functions will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. 99% of me is sure that the above statement applies to a workstation in a production environment but I wanted to make sure and bounce it off a few of you folks.

4 days ago we changed the security settings on our home router/network from WPA2- Personal TKIP+AES to just AES. I then changed my Asus UL80vt-A1 wireless adapter settings (Atheros AR9285) to match (from TKIP to AES).This was the ONLY change I made to the system. Then the fun began.
First off a new adapter appeared in my Network connections. It is Wireless Network Connection 2- Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. Well, that was not there before I made the changes to the security settings. Googling results indicate it is a normal part of Windows 7, it really had never been there before.Restarting the computer the wireless adapter shows as disabled, and I have to run the network diagnostics to re-enable it. It does not matter if I do a shut down or hibernate (my preferred way of shutting down the laptop before going somewhere).
So I thought I should change the security settings back to what I had (TKIP+AES) and set my notebook to TKIP. I also did a Windows Update just in case. I ran a scan with Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essential and Malware Bytes to see if something evil had gotten in, all were clean. Now when I hibernate my laptop it takes 4-5 minutes to shutdown. When I restart it takes 4-5 minutes to restart. I am staring at the intro screen waiting for the logon to appear. Once I get logged in the wifi adapter appears connected, but the computer is acting like it is hung up until all the open programs have finished loading. I can't do anything until the 27 open tabs in Firefox have completely finished being restored. Takes another 3-4 minutes.

I have been doing some cleaning recently, and in the startup section of msconfig, startup options for programs that I deleted are still there. They're disabled, but how do I get rid of them from the list completely?.

I have just clean installed my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and after installing all my apps and drivers I'm finding a stupid and irritating problem.every time I download a .torrent file and tell it to open with (uTorrent) default app it will open another instance of the app and then I have to close the older one because it doesn't register that it has a new torrent only in the new instance does it. this also goes for anything I download with IDM Internet Download Manager whenever the completed download dialog appears another instance of IDM open in the tray and the older instance doesn't register that it has downloaded the file.also I have always used Enqueue in Winamp and even with the settings like that if I enqueue or open a music file it opens another instance of winamp instead of just opening in the current instance. the allow multiple instances is not ticked.I'm not sure if there are other programs doing this but this is really troubling me as I have just finished a clean install and am happy with my settings.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?

Start>msconfigWhich startup programs are vital, and which aren't at startup? I'm trying to optimize the flowof the system, and from what I've been told, not all programs are necessary, forsafe and efficient, pc performance. My system configuration STARTUP tab reads:Launch ManagerMywinlockerRegistry MonitorHD Audio Control PanelSearch ProtectionCatalyst control center (Which is fairly annoying I must add with the pop ups at startup)Super AntispywareSynaptics pointing device driverVprotect applicationYsearchprotectionPlease note that I have more startup programs, however they are programs like:OoVoo, Skype, Acer arcade...Entertainment programs, and programs I can dowithout an initial startup. The ones I did list, I'm not completely sure if theyare vital programs, I couldn't afford to do without an initial startup. In a nutshell, of the programs listed, which are strongly reccommended to be enabled for startup?

I've had this windows 7 laptop for less than a year now, with no problems at all. I7 processor, good speed/graphics etc. Recently however (about a week ago) I turned it on and although the internet works, very specific (and all seemingly windows related) problems are reoccurring and making the laptop unusable. The first thing i notice when I start it up (I'll write it all because I can't seem to google the right solution for this) is that i get a black screen after entering login details for about 2 mins (used to be very quick). Then it loads and i notice the wifi icon doesn't show connected or anything it just has the loading circle over it and it stays like this (even now as I'm clearly on the internet typing this).
No gadgets launch but eventually i get my desktop. This is were it starts getting annoying because, if I open windows update the window opens blank and just freezes, not the whole computer just the update window, same for msconfig, system restore and other windows programs such as windows media player. I can view installed updates (and I'm thinking removing one of these might be the solution as it was around the time I updated windows that this started happening) which is strange as it seems some sections aren't working at all but some are.
To top it off I turned it on about 5 days ago and had the "this is not a genuine windows product" in the bottom right of my background and thought "that's annoying I'll have to fix it tommorow". So i turn my laptop on the next day, ready to fix it having done nothing, and everything is running perfect, i can see my gadgets, I can open WMP and i can look for updates. Restart my computer later that evening and i'm back to the point of nothing working and still there today. I've done a full system virus scan, a boot scan, a defrag and everything.

Occasionally when I start up my HP ProBook 4520s I get an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.". When this happens all task bars go grey and there is no longer a Windows theme. Basically looks like a really old version of windows. Also when I try restart it takes about 15 minutes to reboot. Most of the time a reboot fixes the problem temporarily.
I tried looking in the system log, but there are so many items from the last 15minutes and I cannot figure out which one corresponds to the error.

There are some programs that I need to run at startup, but they tend to need to be run as administrator. I have dragged the shortcut into the startup folder, but this doesn't start the program. Some apps that I need are RealTemp, Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver2, and Gigabyte Easy Tune 6.East Tune 6 does seem to start itself at startup, even though it needs to be run as administrator if I start it from it's shortcut, and I don't get a UAC window, so there must be a way to configure startup for these kind of things. The DES2 app also runs at startup, but not always for some reason, so I would like to add it to the startup list to make sure it's running. I have followed the windows instructions for adding programs to startup, and I have also checked the "run as administrator" check box under compatibility, but neither of these seems to do anything.
I'm not sure why you have a "run as administrator" check box if you still get asked if you want to run as admin even when it is checked. Why have a feature that doesn't do anything? I'm not sure that the entire UAC feature is supposed to do anyway, other than annoy you when you do something that microsoft would rather you not do.

Before Windows 7 I could simply go to Task Manager, then to the Startup tab to check or uncheck whatever programs I didn't want running every time I turned my computer on. But now with this OS that tab isn't present in TM, and a search of "Startup" doesn't bring up anything.
I got directions telling me to go into folders in Windows Explorer that don't exist, so that dead-ended.

in windows vista I could block startup programs i didn't want using up system resources, but with windows 7 I cant find a way of doing that, I understand its always a good idea to have normal startup mode instead of selective in misconfiguration. but in vista I could simply block programs in component services but the ones I want to block are not even listed in windows 7! is this the wrong place to look or is blocking startup programs not an option in windows 7?

I know about MSCONFIG.
the problem is, when you use MSCONFIG to deselect programs from starting up, you force your computer into "Safemode".
I once used a ms command that allowed me to disable enable all programs that start up with windows, other than MSCONFIG.
It did not force my windows into Safemode.
which command is it that allows you to disable programs from starting up with windows,
BESIDES MSCONFIG ? anyone know.?
