I've been having this problem with my laptop for a long time now its an hp pavillion dv4-4068LA. I just restored my system because it was very slow despite having tuneup utilities 2013 working on disabling start up programs. Everything was great when I restored my system until I started installing programs again including tuneup utilities and it actually did more damage than good to my start ups so I decided to permanently uninstall the program and do everything with Windows functions like msconfig and stuff. My startups are way faster now but not as good as they used to be, after 10 minutes of using my computer everything becomes really fast like the old times but I would like to have this speed right at the start up because I know it's possible.

Asus has some way of starting their programs that I can't find. In particular, I want to disable their Wireless Console 3 (wcourier.exe). There are other programs but I can't remember what they are right now. I can only tell you that is does not show up in msconfig or HJT. Where I can find these startup entries?

This is my first custom built computer. I've had the same similar problem for the past year. I have continuous problems starting up and BSOD. My computer will not start up properly at times. It also seems like this problem happens if my computer is off, not in sleep mode, for longer than 24 hours. It involves several restarts. I've checked my hard drive and memory for bad sectors and not found anything. I've run both the memtest and the windows memory test several times and found no problems. There was one post I found on a seperate site that talked about ASRock m/b having problem with Ram voltage so I've manually changed the BIOS to be the voltage required for the Ram. Seemed like it fixed it temporarily but quickly started getting more BSOD.Recently updated AMD drivers and was completely unable to get into Windows. When I restored the system to before the AMD updates I was able to get into Windows.

I recently (about 4-5 months ago, so not very recently) upraded my system to Windows 7 64bit from Vista. Ever since then my computer has had issues where it locks up completely (unable to move the mouse, whatever sound was playing at the time loops) and a hard reboot is required in order to bring it back to order.
It usually wasn't a huge problem before, but for some reason it willl now proceed to lock-up within about 30-40 seconds of booting up the computer, after the desktop loads. I tried disconnecting my second hard-drive (I had bought a new one to install Windows 7 on, and kept the old one plugged in) but that didn't make a difference.
It seems to boot fine in safemode, but I have no idea what the problem could be.
System specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?

Start>msconfigWhich startup programs are vital, and which aren't at startup? I'm trying to optimize the flowof the system, and from what I've been told, not all programs are necessary, forsafe and efficient, pc performance. My system configuration STARTUP tab reads:Launch ManagerMywinlockerRegistry MonitorHD Audio Control PanelSearch ProtectionCatalyst control center (Which is fairly annoying I must add with the pop ups at startup)Super AntispywareSynaptics pointing device driverVprotect applicationYsearchprotectionPlease note that I have more startup programs, however they are programs like:OoVoo, Skype, Acer arcade...Entertainment programs, and programs I can dowithout an initial startup. The ones I did list, I'm not completely sure if theyare vital programs, I couldn't afford to do without an initial startup. In a nutshell, of the programs listed, which are strongly reccommended to be enabled for startup?

I've had this windows 7 laptop for less than a year now, with no problems at all. I7 processor, good speed/graphics etc. Recently however (about a week ago) I turned it on and although the internet works, very specific (and all seemingly windows related) problems are reoccurring and making the laptop unusable. The first thing i notice when I start it up (I'll write it all because I can't seem to google the right solution for this) is that i get a black screen after entering login details for about 2 mins (used to be very quick). Then it loads and i notice the wifi icon doesn't show connected or anything it just has the loading circle over it and it stays like this (even now as I'm clearly on the internet typing this).
No gadgets launch but eventually i get my desktop. This is were it starts getting annoying because, if I open windows update the window opens blank and just freezes, not the whole computer just the update window, same for msconfig, system restore and other windows programs such as windows media player. I can view installed updates (and I'm thinking removing one of these might be the solution as it was around the time I updated windows that this started happening) which is strange as it seems some sections aren't working at all but some are.
To top it off I turned it on about 5 days ago and had the "this is not a genuine windows product" in the bottom right of my background and thought "that's annoying I'll have to fix it tommorow". So i turn my laptop on the next day, ready to fix it having done nothing, and everything is running perfect, i can see my gadgets, I can open WMP and i can look for updates. Restart my computer later that evening and i'm back to the point of nothing working and still there today. I've done a full system virus scan, a boot scan, a defrag and everything.

I have an Asus G73JH-BST7 Laptop and recently it's been freezing. For the past two months it has had issues with programs hanging for 1-3 minutes then quickly responding again. About a week ago the laptop began to freeze and wouldn't come back and would required a hard restart. I decided to make use of my warranty and took it into a geek squad store. They told me they ran chkdsk and "other" tests to check the HDD and it passed all the tests and they couldn't "Replicate" the problem. So, I took the laptop back and it's still hanging/freezing. Whats the best way to go about diagnosing this?

There are some programs that I need to run at startup, but they tend to need to be run as administrator. I have dragged the shortcut into the startup folder, but this doesn't start the program. Some apps that I need are RealTemp, Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver2, and Gigabyte Easy Tune 6.East Tune 6 does seem to start itself at startup, even though it needs to be run as administrator if I start it from it's shortcut, and I don't get a UAC window, so there must be a way to configure startup for these kind of things. The DES2 app also runs at startup, but not always for some reason, so I would like to add it to the startup list to make sure it's running. I have followed the windows instructions for adding programs to startup, and I have also checked the "run as administrator" check box under compatibility, but neither of these seems to do anything.
I'm not sure why you have a "run as administrator" check box if you still get asked if you want to run as admin even when it is checked. Why have a feature that doesn't do anything? I'm not sure that the entire UAC feature is supposed to do anyway, other than annoy you when you do something that microsoft would rather you not do.

I am running W7 Ultimate 32-bit. I have two programs that have stopped running on startup. One is 'everything' - a better search engine, the other is 'Karen's Time sync' - a clock sync program. I have UAC enabled and when they did run, they asked for permission to continue. Now they don't run at all unless I start them manually. Before Windows 7 I could simply go to Task Manager, then to the Startup tab to check or uncheck whatever programs I didn't want running every time I turned my computer on. But now with this OS that tab isn't present in TM, and a search of "Startup" doesn't bring up anything.
I got directions telling me to go into folders in Windows Explorer that don't exist, so that dead-ended.

in windows vista I could block startup programs i didn't want using up system resources, but with windows 7 I cant find a way of doing that, I understand its always a good idea to have normal startup mode instead of selective in misconfiguration. but in vista I could simply block programs in component services but the ones I want to block are not even listed in windows 7! is this the wrong place to look or is blocking startup programs not an option in windows 7?

I know about MSCONFIG.
the problem is, when you use MSCONFIG to deselect programs from starting up, you force your computer into "Safemode".
I once used a ms command that allowed me to disable enable all programs that start up with windows, other than MSCONFIG.
It did not force my windows into Safemode.
which command is it that allows you to disable programs from starting up with windows,
BESIDES MSCONFIG ? anyone know.?

I just purchased a new Acer 4830TG (i5 2.5 GHz) and immediately replaced the HD with a SanDisk Extreme (550 MB/s read, 510 MB/s write).I have certain programs in the Startup folder- Excel workspace (6 spreadsheets) for my business, Word, Firefox (with approx 35 tabs) and Thunderbird. I like to hit the power button, enter my password, then go make my coffee and come back to find everything loaded and my morning emails all downloaded (4 different accounts).Except now Firefox and Thunderbird are loading so fast the wireless network has not finished connecting before they start sending requests, and of course I am getting network connection errors.I can't believe I am actually having to ask this, but does anyone have any suggestions for freebie programs that can delay the loading of programs in the startup folder? Or tell me how to write a batch file of some kind that call these programs with a delay scripted in?
