I recently changed my hard drive letters around and now the programs that i had in the startup folder wont start at startup. They only start manually i made sure i put the new path to the program but it stil wont start

So, I put a shortcut to the playlist file in my Startup folder.But, even though I selected "Run: Minimized" in its Properties dialog box, it always runs in a normal window. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have no idea ho i did this but all of my startup programs on start menu as well as desktop shotcuts they end in .ink? And all of it has the logo for VLc media player? so basically when i click it it loads on that program but it will not load it as it only does media files. And all the time I have to right click to say open file location then it finally loads the program. So my question is how do I put it all back to normal? I'll post a screenshot so you can better understand what I am talking about.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm running Windows 7 x86 from a Crucial SSD. I have set up this system only recently.When I reboot my system (which I dont do very often) I have found that none of the programs/services that are supposed to start automatically, do.This includes Logitech "Setpoint.exe" (for my mouse), MS "itype.exe" (for my keyboard), the realtek hd audio manager, my calendar software "rainlendar2.exe", as well as a control panel mod/replacement called "classic control panel".All of these used to work correctly on my old system, meaning, when I was still running Windows 7 x86 from a normal HDD instead of an SSD. I did not use AHCI mode back then, only switched to it for the SSD. (Just throwing that in there because I don't know what could possibly cause this kind of behavior, and I didnt make other changes to the system far as I'm aware..)The thing is, I can run the software manually just fine, and everything works the way it should - tray icon appears, etc.I can also put shortcuts to all these programs in the "Startup" folder, and it works fine.It's only the "other type" of automatic startup that won't work for some reason.Not all of these affected programs actually even HAVE an option to disable the automatic startup (itype.exe for example, never had a tray icon, never had an option to NOT run, afaik; the same is true for the classic start menu app).
I double checked the other software to make sure that the option "run on system startup" (or similar) was enabled in all of them, and it was.I also noticed that none of the usual entries were present in the "Startup" section of msconfig.exe (which I usually use to disable any kind of programs that startup automatically when I dont want them to.) Im running out of ideas here. The only thing I could think of that I haven't tried yet is re-installing all this software, but what are the odds of ALL this software losing its auto-startup capabilities at the same time, each on its own? Is there a common global option that may affect programs running at startup?Is there any service that is required to run programs at startup? (I did follow a guide for SSD Windows users, that recommended disabling certain Windows services and functions... eg auto defrag, superfetch, hibernation, system restore, etc.. that sort of thing!)
No matter how many times I launch Skype or iTunes, they just won't get added to the Start Menu's Recent Programs list.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

There are some programs that I need to run at startup, but they tend to need to be run as administrator. I have dragged the shortcut into the startup folder, but this doesn't start the program. Some apps that I need are RealTemp, Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver2, and Gigabyte Easy Tune 6.East Tune 6 does seem to start itself at startup, even though it needs to be run as administrator if I start it from it's shortcut, and I don't get a UAC window, so there must be a way to configure startup for these kind of things. The DES2 app also runs at startup, but not always for some reason, so I would like to add it to the startup list to make sure it's running. I have followed the windows instructions for adding programs to startup, and I have also checked the "run as administrator" check box under compatibility, but neither of these seems to do anything.
I'm not sure why you have a "run as administrator" check box if you still get asked if you want to run as admin even when it is checked. Why have a feature that doesn't do anything? I'm not sure that the entire UAC feature is supposed to do anyway, other than annoy you when you do something that microsoft would rather you not do.
I am running W7 Ultimate 32-bit. I have two programs that have stopped running on startup. One is 'everything' - a better search engine, the other is 'Karen's Time sync' - a clock sync program. I have UAC enabled and when they did run, they asked for permission to continue. Now they don't run at all unless I start them manually. Before Windows 7 I could simply go to Task Manager, then to the Startup tab to check or uncheck whatever programs I didn't want running every time I turned my computer on. But now with this OS that tab isn't present in TM, and a search of "Startup" doesn't bring up anything.
I got directions telling me to go into folders in Windows Explorer that don't exist, so that dead-ended.

the problem is, when you use MSCONFIG to deselect programs from starting up, you force your computer into "Safemode".
I once used a ms command that allowed me to disable enable all programs that start up with windows, other than MSCONFIG.
It did not force my windows into Safemode.

I just purchased a new Acer 4830TG (i5 2.5 GHz) and immediately replaced the HD with a SanDisk Extreme (550 MB/s read, 510 MB/s write).I have certain programs in the Startup folder- Excel workspace (6 spreadsheets) for my business, Word, Firefox (with approx 35 tabs) and Thunderbird. I like to hit the power button, enter my password, then go make my coffee and come back to find everything loaded and my morning emails all downloaded (4 different accounts).Except now Firefox and Thunderbird are loading so fast the wireless network has not finished connecting before they start sending requests, and of course I am getting network connection errors.I can't believe I am actually having to ask this, but does anyone have any suggestions for freebie programs that can delay the loading of programs in the startup folder?
