Well, this problem just started, but I can't get any of the programs open on the start bar. I can open open files in my documents, but no other programs will start, such as solitaire or photoshop.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this windows 7 laptop for less than a year now, with no problems at all. I7 processor, good speed/graphics etc. Recently however (about a week ago) I turned it on and although the internet works, very specific (and all seemingly windows related) problems are reoccurring and making the laptop unusable. The first thing i notice when I start it up (I'll write it all because I can't seem to google the right solution for this) is that i get a black screen after entering login details for about 2 mins (used to be very quick). Then it loads and i notice the wifi icon doesn't show connected or anything it just has the loading circle over it and it stays like this (even now as I'm clearly on the internet typing this).
No gadgets launch but eventually i get my desktop. This is were it starts getting annoying because, if I open windows update the window opens blank and just freezes, not the whole computer just the update window, same for msconfig, system restore and other windows programs such as windows media player. I can view installed updates (and I'm thinking removing one of these might be the solution as it was around the time I updated windows that this started happening) which is strange as it seems some sections aren't working at all but some are.
To top it off I turned it on about 5 days ago and had the "this is not a genuine windows product" in the bottom right of my background and thought "that's annoying I'll have to fix it tommorow". So i turn my laptop on the next day, ready to fix it having done nothing, and everything is running perfect, i can see my gadgets, I can open WMP and i can look for updates. Restart my computer later that evening and i'm back to the point of nothing working and still there today. I've done a full system virus scan, a boot scan, a defrag and everything.
I was checking my startup programs and there was something I never seen there before called "installedtime" made by unknown. It also had a weird command, just numbers...

Some programs in my log are there multiple times.
My windows7 startup was very slow.I disabled all startup programs and non-windows services but still got the problem.Then I checked my event viewer and WTF! So many errors and warnings in Boot performance monitoring.Take a look:what are these errors.One more thing that after entering password desktop appears after 15 seconds and taskbar and desktop icons appears after 1 or 2 minutes. Until then computer is unusable. But after then it become normal.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new HP Desktop PC. I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit SP1. Yesterday I noticed that iTunes won't open when I double-click on the shortcut icon on my desktop. I restarted my computer, same issue. I restarted in Safe Mode, same issueI did notuninstall/reinstall because I also can't open my Spybot-SD. Same thing happens. The process is listed in Task Manager, but the programs just don't open. I have not trieduninstalling/reinstalling the programs because I tried doing a System Restore back to early February. The System Restore was successful but the problem persists. Also, Windows Media Player opens, but it opens weird, wherein it freezes on a white square for a few minutes before finally loading. Also, my DVD burning software, DVD Flick, opens but first it freezes on a yellow square.
It's hard to Google this problem because of all the programs involved, and I'm sure there are more programs that won't open that I'm just not aware of yet. I didn't do anything that I can think of that could've caused the problem (and if I had, the system restore would've fixed it). So I scanned my PC for viruses with Symantec and I also scanned for malware with Microsoft Security Essentials and both scans came up clean. Not being able to use iTunes presents a problem because I can't update my phone or make changes to my phone at all.
Windows will not let me open any of my programs this happen updating windows. I went back and restored it and windows updated and now i have the same problem again.

What happened I downloaded a file online and it installed seachqu toolbar on all my browsers which I didn't want.
I uninstalled the downloaded file and followed forum advice to get rid of searchqu (which didn't remove it but stopped it affecting my computer).
I also downloaded spyware doctor 8 as I was worried about spyware. I didn't realise I have to buy it though to remove things and there was only minimal spyware on there so I wasn't too concerned.
Tried to uninstall spyware doctor and windows wouldn't let me - it said it may already have been removed. Now I can't open any programs except mcafee which can't find a problem and Internet explorer which opens but doesn't search (it times out).
iTunes, Firefox, office products etc won't open. They make a loading sign the nothing happens.
None of my programs will open normally. Whenever i try to open a program, I get the request to choose a program to open it with.Sometimes this works ok, other times I just get a blank window in that program. Even when it works, it must be done every time.

When I try to change it by right clicking on the program and select "open with..." and then select the right program it either starts opening all the programs with the selected program, or it doesn't save the program I want to "open with...". Now when I try and open these same programs. I get the motion circular object as if the program is opening, however the programe never starts. If you click on the program again, each instance will appear in the task manager, but the program will not open. I have ran the compatiblity check on these apps.

When I try to open a 32 bit program, it shows up in the task manager for a few seconds (e.g. "firefox.exe x32"), then disappears after a few seconds. I can open Internet Explorer 64 bit fine, run it with no programs, but the 32 bit version doesn't work.I also can't access many of the Windows control panel settings, such as "Uninstall Programs." I can open the Control Panel folder, but when I double click on the items inside: nothing.Background: My wife decided it was a good idea to download and run a program she received in an email from a stranger and let it bypass our Avast antivirus SuperAntiSpyware, Trend Micro Housecall, and Microsoft Security Essentials; also CCleaner, and a few other similar utilities (finding and deleting many items.) I feel fairly confident (not 100%) that there are no viruses/malware left, but either they screwed something up, or my efforts to subsequently clean the computer up did.ow I booted into safe mode once or twice, and was able to run 32 bit programs! But now I can't do that anymore: Both regular and safe-mode boots result in the same problem.

I can close it out with no problem but find it annoying to see it on EVERY startup. I don't know if something happened during a HP or Windows update or if possibly picked up some spyware or malware somewhere. I ran scans with Avast anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes with nothing serious showing up...just cookies.Everything seems to run properly with no problems but this showing up on startups/reboots, opens on safe mode also. View 9 Replies View RelatedI just started up my Laptop (Sony Vaio 2.6GHz | 4GB RAM | ATI Radeon | Windows 7 Home Premium) and none of the programs on my laptop are responding when I click on them to start them. Not even Windows Explorer opens. Nothing responds. I can open the windows start button, but that is about it. The PC is still under warranty, so it's quite new (4months). I also take great care of it, I do not load all sorts of crap on it. Only the essentials.
It all started yesterday, when my PC became really slow and I had to restart it, where it literally took 10 minutes too shut down (NO windows updates being installed...). I restarted it, ran a check disc for bad sectors, and it found none. Only a few bad clusters. I also ran - sfc /scannow command in cmd. However, when I open some of the programs (non windows system programs such as explorer and task manager), it gives me the following error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
I have some .mkv files on my system.
Windows 7 does not seem to remember the programs that I used to open those files with.
I keep getting the default open with menu option without any available programs and then select a default program.
Even if open the file with WMP64, Winamp, BSplayer or Media Player Classic, those programs do not appear in the open with context menu, and I cant quickly open the file with those programs.
Is there something wrong which I can fix?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought an HP Pavilion p6730f BV533AA#ABA Desktop PC - Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz, 6GB DDR3, 1.5TB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Right out of the box it started acting a little touchy. I bought to get a project done for a client, so immediately I installed Adobe premiere cs5 along with a slew of other programs I use day to day. Within the first two days I noticed it would sometimes fail to open new programs after it had been left on for about a day. For example: lets say I go to open firefox, so I click on the firefox icon pinned to my taskbar. It glows, as if it is loading then fades. As if the computer forgot what my request was. I try clicking a few more times; same thing. So I go to the shortcut in my start menu, click it: same thing. the little circle appears next to my cursor for a moment, then the request is gone. Tried hotkeys; (windows button plus number position on taskbar) still nothing. I then try every program on the taskbar, each with the same results. (and giving proper time for the computer to think) Even simple programs like text editor will not open. To top it off, the shutdown process wont even initiate! At which point I have to hard-crash out to restart. After a fresh restart it works fine for a few days or so till this happens.
