View 1 RepliesAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 32 bit 2010 Office Home and Student version loaded on a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium version. I received a 32 bit VBA Excel program that will open fine, but when I enable macros I get the VBA message: Compile error in hidden module: modtimebomb. I'm told this 32 bit VBA Excel program works fine when running on a 32 bit windows system. Would this be a problem with the VBA programming or is there a problem with running certain 32 bit excel programs on a 64 bit windows system?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI left my computer - which is an Acer Aspire One, that I purchased, refurbished, a few months ago from a local dealer and came preloaded with Windows Starter 7 - closed, but without turning it off, for a few hours while I ran out to a cafe with a friend (which I've done hundreds of times before. But, when I came back, it was frozen on the firefox tab I had open when I left. So, I figured, I'll just turn it off with the power button and turn it back on. When I did this, Windows stalled out while opening and wasn't going anywhere, and then the screen went black and it went back to the Acer splash screen and told me that Windows had failed to start and suggested I run Startup Repair. So I did, and, after about 5 minutes, it went to a blue screen with a white hummingbird and some curly bits behind it, and a slightly distorted cursor that moves on the screen when I use my keypad and hasn't moved since. That was about 20 minutes ago. I'm really stressing out, because I don't know what to do, and there are files on there that I need for work.

I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?
Bought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always. Here I attach screenshots of CPU-Z and the customary files for debugging BSODs. Full system specs: [URL].

I'm trying to optimize the flowof the system, and from what I've been told, not all programs are necessary, forsafe and efficient, pc performance. My system configuration STARTUP tab reads:Launch ManagerMywinlockerRegistry MonitorHD Audio Control PanelSearch ProtectionCatalyst control center (Which is fairly annoying I must add with the pop ups at startup)Super AntispywareSynaptics pointing device driverVprotect applicationYsearchprotectionPlease note that I have more startup programs, however they are programs like:OoVoo, Skype, Acer arcade...Entertainment programs, and programs I can dowithout an initial startup. The ones I did list, I'm not completely sure if theyare vital programs, I couldn't afford to do without an initial startup. In a nutshell, of the programs listed, which are strongly reccommended to be enabled for startup?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this windows 7 laptop for less than a year now, with no problems at all. I7 processor, good speed/graphics etc. Recently however (about a week ago) I turned it on and although the internet works, very specific (and all seemingly windows related) problems are reoccurring and making the laptop unusable. The first thing i notice when I start it up (I'll write it all because I can't seem to google the right solution for this) is that i get a black screen after entering login details for about 2 mins (used to be very quick). Then it loads and i notice the wifi icon doesn't show connected or anything it just has the loading circle over it and it stays like this (even now as I'm clearly on the internet typing this).
No gadgets launch but eventually i get my desktop. This is were it starts getting annoying because, if I open windows update the window opens blank and just freezes, not the whole computer just the update window, same for msconfig, system restore and other windows programs such as windows media player. I can view installed updates (and I'm thinking removing one of these might be the solution as it was around the time I updated windows that this started happening) which is strange as it seems some sections aren't working at all but some are.
To top it off I turned it on about 5 days ago and had the "this is not a genuine windows product" in the bottom right of my background and thought "that's annoying I'll have to fix it tommorow". So i turn my laptop on the next day, ready to fix it having done nothing, and everything is running perfect, i can see my gadgets, I can open WMP and i can look for updates. Restart my computer later that evening and i'm back to the point of nothing working and still there today. I've done a full system virus scan, a boot scan, a defrag and everything.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend's Dell Mini 9 netbook decided to start acting up recently. She turned it on, and it decided to run startup repair. The repair always fails for no apparent reason, and the computer shuts itself down. I tried running a startup repair from a Windows 7 repair disc. The repair from the disc claimed that it fixed issues, and yet when I started the computer up again it ran startup repair again. Its stuck in a cycle I cannot get past. I tried running system restore from the repair disc, but it always fails as soon as its finalized. asically, what the heck is wrong? I unfortunately have little software experience, the majority of what I know is hardware related.
I just ran startup repair from the disc again and read the error details. It says that the root cause is "startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem." It still says the errors were fixed. But after yet another boot-up, the repair still automatically runs and fails.etails of the failure:Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.[CODE]
