I have a friend who has upgraded to Windows 7 on a 64 bit machine. He has some old Basic programs, including source code, for useful engineering calculations. These programs no longer work on his machine.
Neither of us are full time developers or PC experts so a user-friendly solution would be best.
I have some basic software for financial records that will not run on a 64 bit machine. Is there a easy quick fix?

She was having problems with her computer trying to run programs when her computer desktop was running in basic mode and not in Aero mode. There was 2 accounts on the computer one in Aero and one in basic. When she logon on to the one in Aero everything ran fine. When she logon on to the one in basic her account. Everything she tried to run didn't work or couldn't change or update.
I ask her if she always ran it in basic and she said she had never change the desktop. As soon as we change it back to Aero than everything was fine. I might be wrong but you should be able to run in the basic mode with no problems right. Does Win 7 change all the programs to run in basic mode and do you have to setup those programs to run right in basic mode. Or is this a commom problem with Win 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt my work we are in the process of upgrading our network from server 2003 and xp on the clients to server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 on the clients. We have some productivity software that will not run on windows 7 64 bit so we have installed the XP mode virtual machine in order to run that software. The software installs fine and runs fine. The problem we are having is some of the software is used to program PLC's and so we need to be able to talk with these devices over the network at their IP addresses. I have configured the "virtual" ethernet adapter and windows 7 ethernet adapter the same. From the cmd prompt in win 7 i can obviously ping the devices and communicate with anything on the network however when I am running the XP mode I cannot access anything on the network. The virtual mode isnt recognizing any of the physical computers resources. Is there a way to make it so when running XP mode and the programs in XP mode the computer can communicate with other devices over the network?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

I received a 32 bit VBA Excel program that will open fine, but when I enable macros I get the VBA message: Compile error in hidden module: modtimebomb. I'm told this 32 bit VBA Excel program works fine when running on a 32 bit windows system. Would this be a problem with the VBA programming or is there a problem with running certain 32 bit excel programs on a 64 bit windows system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.

I have three other hard drives on which all the program and other files were created under Vista 32 bit. I know I can transfer the files which are installed on my Vista boot hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer, but when I am running Windows 7 will it recognise all the programs and files on the existing drives if I just leave them there?

View 2 Replies View RelatedBought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always. Here I attach screenshots of CPU-Z and the customary files for debugging BSODs. Full system specs: [URL].
