I have a computer based training program that is designed to run on older Windows versions. The last version that I had it working on was XP. I am trying to get it to run on my new Windows 7 machine, with no luck. Windows has a patch to run XP programs, but it is not available for my home version of Windows.
View 16 RepliesIf I uninstall windows live essentials 2011 and install windows live essentials 2009, will the 2009 windows live mail automatically have all my emails in place without having to import them from my backup? My .eml files are in C:UsersMeAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live Mail, so I assume any version of live mail will associate itself with that automatically and the emails will show up? The only reason I'm doing this is because I hate the new live messenger, (which I uninstalled) and tried to install the 2009 version. But it won't let me install older versions until I uninstall live essentials 2011. And that means all other live apps get uninstalled, including email of course.

I can get a fairly decent price on A site for an older version of Windows 7 Ultimate so is the smarter choice to purchase the newer though more costly versions, or the older versions at the cheaper price. ( at least 75 dollars up to 100 dollars USD difference in prices)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter that success with Skype into Win7 decided to have another look at the programs I had problems with..DataDirector 2 ; EzyChart ; EzyManager...I installed an Acronis backup file, the original install with only Acronis up and running..what do you know!! have installed those 3 program now into Win7 64bit..would cost way over A$1000. to replace these "must have" for me programs plus heaps and heaps of work to transcribe Tax nec. data..
DataDirector went in easly but the other 2 took a bit of fiddling..I did have these installed in Virt. XP mode but even though MS Virt. PC is the best I have used by a long chalk, there are delays starting it up and it will hang sometimes when you first click into it..increaded Ram allacation to 1g helped a little..much much better to have all the programs in Win7
Just a quick word on Vista..have used this program from when first out, some problems with driver to start but since have found it a great program for me ..stable and better than XP.. but am finding Win7 better than both especially 64bit.... has to be the way to go I remember 8bit and 16bit..Did anyone see that program on Quantam computers?? they will be like an ocean liner to a rowboat..all I have to do is live long enough!!
I've recently purchased an upgrade CD from xp to windows 7 after making sure I had all the criteria right. I followed the steps to the letter but when I tried exctracting the old files I got an error message saying "This version of updateupdate.exe in not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." There's even a warning message at the bottom right corner sating my Windows copy isn't genuine though I bought this and the previous one at a real store.

I run a few programs on my home machine which do not get along entirely with Windows 7. I know this because I have had to upgrade the same programs to run on my shop box.
On the home machine, I would like to keep as many of these programs as possible and I want to play a few games...some of which came out before Windows 7.I am prepared to put a VM on the home machine but as a last resort.Which version of Windows would be most compatible with my existing programs and usage? I received a 32 bit VBA Excel program that will open fine, but when I enable macros I get the VBA message: Compile error in hidden module: modtimebomb. I'm told this 32 bit VBA Excel program works fine when running on a 32 bit windows system. Would this be a problem with the VBA programming or is there a problem with running certain 32 bit excel programs on a 64 bit windows system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always. Here I attach screenshots of CPU-Z and the customary files for debugging BSODs. Full system specs: [URL].
