View 3 RepliesJust got my upgrade disc Windows 7 pro 64 bit.
I just got new PC with vista 64 bit system. And can not run some old programs I use for FS2004. Gauges and more. They all ran sweet on my laptop vista 32 bit.
Moving over to Windows 7 pro 64 will this solve the problem. Haven't had chance to see if the new Windows 7 pro disc has 32 and 64 bit versions on i9t as I’m in work. If not will Windows 7 64 run my old programs?
After that success with Skype into Win7 decided to have another look at the programs I had problems with..DataDirector 2 ; EzyChart ; EzyManager...I installed an Acronis backup file, the original install with only Acronis up and running..what do you know!! have installed those 3 program now into Win7 64bit..would cost way over A$1000. to replace these "must have" for me programs plus heaps and heaps of work to transcribe Tax nec. data..
DataDirector went in easly but the other 2 took a bit of fiddling..I did have these installed in Virt. XP mode but even though MS Virt. PC is the best I have used by a long chalk, there are delays starting it up and it will hang sometimes when you first click into it..increaded Ram allacation to 1g helped a little..much much better to have all the programs in Win7
Just a quick word on Vista..have used this program from when first out, some problems with driver to start but since have found it a great program for me ..stable and better than XP.. but am finding Win7 better than both especially 64bit.... has to be the way to go I remember 8bit and 16bit..Did anyone see that program on Quantam computers?? they will be like an ocean liner to a rowboat..all I have to do is live long enough!!
I have a computer based training program that is designed to run on older Windows versions. The last version that I had it working on was XP. I am trying to get it to run on my new Windows 7 machine, with no luck. Windows has a patch to run XP programs, but it is not available for my home version of Windows.

Trying to load an old genealogy program "family tree maker 16" 32bit into virtual xp. As soon as I click on install I get the "configuring system for install" window for a flash of a second then another window opens "catastrophic failure". I am assuming that not "all" 32bit programs will run on virtual xp even though it's running flawlessly on my xp desktop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was recently having some bad video driver issues (getting frequent BSODs after updating to the latest drivers for my 560 Ti), so I did a system restore. After the restore, I'm not having any problems with that, but a new one has popped up: opening any photo or video file in Windows Photo Viewer, VLC, or MPC-HC takes a while. There's a 10-15 second delay. In the case of Windows Photo Viewer, it doesn't open the program until then. With VLC and MPC-HC, the program opens but it takes that long to load the file. I've tried this on two separate hard drives, and opening the files with other programs (such as opening a local image file using Chrome) doesn't have the same delay. I've rebooted my computer several times, rebuilt my icon cache (which has fixed some similar bugs for me before), and checked that I didn't have an issue with color calibration (which reportedly slows down Windows Photo Viewer). Scanning with MSE turned up nothing. I can't do a system restore to any other point since this was the only one before I installed the new video card drivers that gave me even worse trouble.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI came home yesterday and my Windows 7 installation had stopped loading programs. I was able to boot into the OS and run Explorer, but nothing else would run, even from the Program Files folders. I'd click on program icons and the hourglass would appear, then disappear after a few seconds, and nothing would happen. Also I could get to a certain point in the Control Panel, but when I tried to initiate a System Image Backup for example I couldn't do that either.
I tried repairing and then restoring the OS and now I just get a black screen after I log in to Windows. After trying to restore the OS, I got a message saying that the restore function was unable to restore the drive and the OS files remained unchanged. I think it might be the drive so I'm going to buy a new drive (OS drive recommendations most welcome!). I'm curious as to what the problem is though. I booted into a Windows XP installation in a different drive, and it looks like I can browse the drive Windows 7's installed in fine, but somehow something happened to the OS installation.
I have a problem with All Programs list. After starting Win it loads slowly. There is a list of programs but it's only names and blank Icons. After some time it shows list of folders but then again when I click on particular folder Accessories for example, it shows a blank icons of files in this folder or it shows searching something. It used to be working fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCan't tell if Windows 7 or my RAM, certain programs have been loading REALLY slow. For example, Google chrome that took miliseconds to start up, now takes 10 seconds to actually open, and 2-3 minutes to load the page. Other programs i start up with Google chrome at the same time (because 8 GB ram should be able to handle this...) such as Steam, aim, etc also take a long time to start up. However, this only happens when i open them at the same time i open Google Chrome. Then all of a sudden, the finish loading all at the SAME TIME. Like, I would open Chrome, then Steam, then aim, and they would all be loading, and as soon as Google Chrome finishes its 2-3 minute loading, everything loads at the same time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne particular site that is not loading at all, on any browsers on my computer is [URL]. There are many more that fail to load as well. I did test these sites on my iPhone with no problems though. There are a handful of other sites that do open but do not load properly [missing images, ect.] I also thought that it might be malware but I installed & scanned my computer with four different programs which did not solve the problem. I'm guessing that it still may be some problem on the software side with settings but I can't seem to figure out where to look. BTW, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus program for the past couple of days now. Prior to that I was using Avira but it seemed to be giving me problems so I uninstalled it and installed the Microsoft app.

The TV doesn't have a vga input, nor does it say "computer" anywhere, as the newer tvs do.

View 0 Replies View Relatedif I misunderstand XP mode. It would seem the case for buying windows 7 with XP is to support older hardware and software that is not yet compatible.
However, you have to have a bios and cpu which support virtualization which are only the new hardware/cpu's.
XP mode would be most suitable for older hardware running XP machines.
