I have a problem with All Programs list. After starting Win it loads slowly. There is a list of programs but it's only names and blank Icons. After some time it shows list of folders but then again when I click on particular folder Accessories for example, it shows a blank icons of files in this folder or it shows searching something. It used to be working fine.
View 5 RepliesI was recently having some bad video driver issues (getting frequent BSODs after updating to the latest drivers for my 560 Ti), so I did a system restore. After the restore, I'm not having any problems with that, but a new one has popped up: opening any photo or video file in Windows Photo Viewer, VLC, or MPC-HC takes a while. There's a 10-15 second delay. In the case of Windows Photo Viewer, it doesn't open the program until then. With VLC and MPC-HC, the program opens but it takes that long to load the file. I've tried this on two separate hard drives, and opening the files with other programs (such as opening a local image file using Chrome) doesn't have the same delay. I've rebooted my computer several times, rebuilt my icon cache (which has fixed some similar bugs for me before), and checked that I didn't have an issue with color calibration (which reportedly slows down Windows Photo Viewer). Scanning with MSE turned up nothing. I can't do a system restore to any other point since this was the only one before I installed the new video card drivers that gave me even worse trouble.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since I installed Windows 7 and IE 9 my computer has been giving me fits. Pages and games load extremely slow and I have to refresh constantly. Windows live mail is a nightmare as it takes over 2 minutes to load an email just so that I can delete it. Can I uninstall IE 9 without causing any problems on my computer? And will it revert back to IE 8? I'm thinking that IE 9 is what is giving me such problems and I have heard that it causes a lot of problems with other programs and games. I scan and defrag all the time so I know that isn't my problem with too much junk on the computer.

My laptop was fine for the first 6-8 months until I some strange things started happening. When I would Google something and click on a search result, I would be redirected to a website trying to sell me things. A friend of mine did some research, and told me my laptop had something called a "click jacker". We found a work-around. Then, I was primarily using Google Chrome as my browser of choice until it started loading websites slowly and then not at all. I switched to Mozilla Firefox for a while until it started behaving the same way. Now, I am using IE which is working great, but what do I do when the same thing happens to this web browser? I would really like to start fresh, but I have never attempted anything like that before.
View 8 Replies View RelatedStarting last night, Google Chrome was taking longer than usual to open webpages. Now under an hour ago, other applications and files take up to 10 seconds to open. My laptop is running fine now because I restarted. I ran CCleaner to clean out my history, cookies, etc. I also ran scans with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, both found nothing. I did not install any software or make any hardware changes.

View 9 Replies View RelatedInspiron 1525 with T8300 Intel proc.--4gb ram---windows 7 professional and virtual xp. Trying to load an old genealogy program "family tree maker 16" 32bit into virtual xp. As soon as I click on install I get the "configuring system for install" window for a flash of a second then another window opens "catastrophic failure". I am assuming that not "all" 32bit programs will run on virtual xp even though it's running flawlessly on my xp desktop.

I'd click on program icons and the hourglass would appear, then disappear after a few seconds, and nothing would happen. Also I could get to a certain point in the Control Panel, but when I tried to initiate a System Image Backup for example I couldn't do that either.
I tried repairing and then restoring the OS and now I just get a black screen after I log in to Windows. After trying to restore the OS, I got a message saying that the restore function was unable to restore the drive and the OS files remained unchanged. I think it might be the drive so I'm going to buy a new drive (OS drive recommendations most welcome!). I'm curious as to what the problem is though. View 3 Replies View RelatedCan't tell if Windows 7 or my RAM, certain programs have been loading REALLY slow. For example, Google chrome that took miliseconds to start up, now takes 10 seconds to actually open, and 2-3 minutes to load the page. Other programs i start up with Google chrome at the same time (because 8 GB ram should be able to handle this...) such as Steam, aim, etc also take a long time to start up. However, this only happens when i open them at the same time i open Google Chrome. Then all of a sudden, the finish loading all at the SAME TIME. Like, I would open Chrome, then Steam, then aim, and they would all be loading, and as soon as Google Chrome finishes its 2-3 minute loading, everything loads at the same time.

My "Start > All Programs" menu is completely blank, there are no items on it whatsoever when there really should be alot. When I browse the computer in Explorer, I can find a folder that has all of my "All Programs" menu items in, however these do not show up on the menu.
So I made the mistake of downloading the Codec C Malware. I got it deleted but now my programs are missing.

Second, I've tried scouring the internet for a similar problem, but as of yet have been unable to find one.The problem I'm experiencing occurred after some hardware problems, which meant the computer was periodically crashing. I think I've now fixed these, however a software problem with windows 7 seems to be occurring.Every time I go to the start menu and load a program, not one but two instances of these programs start up. This doesn't occur with all programs I've tested, but this may be because other programs only allow one instance to run at a time. Examples of ones I've tested include Speedfan, Handbrake, Calculator. If I start the programs from within explorer, only one instance starts.
Interestingly, not sure if this is related, if I go into explorer and double click on a folder, it does not open the folder, i have to right click and then use the open option.The computer generally feels a bit slow. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar, or whether I should try a repair install (which will be a bit of hassle as I'll have to try to uninstall SP1 first).
I have stuff on the start menu list so i can get to them easy but the past few weeks now they are just randomly getting removed
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn Vista and older versions, if I right clicked on a program in the taskbar I could then move the mouse up ever so slightly to click "close."
Now there is a weird little "box" that pops up instead of a menu, and I have to move my mouse significantly further to get to "close." Sounds trivial, but if I am shutting down several applications in a row it is much slower this way.
Is there a way to return the right click menu to normal?
Maybe a week or two ago I was cleaning a junk from a system with revo uninstaller and have checked few more options then they are checked by default,and I erased some of the apps from start menu.That were apps which are in Accessories and System tools folders,and all Administrative tools folder.
After that I tried to approac them through Administrative tols in Control panel,but I was getting a message that a shortcut refers to a location which is unavailable,and that they are maybe moved to some other place on HD.Since I knew what have I done,and it was 3:00 AM,I decided to do a System restore,but some other day when I won't be sleepy.
Tomorrow and day after tomorrow I was kind a busy,and forgot to do a System Restore,but I was downloading some games and I was running out of a place on that partition.I was maybe a few hundreds megabytes short,and decided to delete all system restore points and turn off system protection,so I can get some extra place which was earlier dedicated to System restore.Off course,in that moment I forgot about the programs I deleted few days before but I remembered them in the same moment I turn off System protection and when restore points were gone,but a second or two too late.
So,my question is:
Is there any way so I can get back System tools and Administrative tools back?
Of course there is because I see some of them in System32 folder and in Windows folder(exe files) or maybe they are all there but I can't tell which one was where,and I don't know how I can get them back in Start menu,and reassociate Administrative tools with Control panel shortcut.
And of course,I don't have an image of a system.
I hope that you undersand what I was trying to tell.
This may have been reported earlier and has been happening on Vista and XP to some people (albeit not REALLY the same), but I'm seeing my entire programs list in "All Programs" disappear after every installation of any software. It seems adding to the list makes it disappear. The funny thing is that the actual files (shortcuts, etc.) are all in place in their proper folders and don't get removed. It's just the start menu which stops showing them. A way to fix this, for me, is to MOVE the entire contents of
"[startup drive]:Users[username]AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms"
to a different folder and then MOVE it all back (same goes for the
"[startup drive]ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms"
contents) After this, it all comes back, but only until I install something new.
Does anybody have any such or similar problems?
Also, I have a different user account on this computer (for my wife) and none of this happens there, even if I perform an installation from under that account!
I should also say that this window install (currently build 7077) has been upgraded from 7048 (i.e. 7048 -> 7057 -> 7068 - >7077). I have AVG antivirus + firewall installed (the problem happens with it disabled and has started long after AVG's been installed anyway).
This did not happen on any provious builds (and started relatively recently but for the life of me I can't remember when exactly since I don't really use the programs menu that much). The first time it happened I did a restore which brought back the contents but again, until the next install after which it all disappeared again.
It seems to have something to do with the way the start menu finds its contents...
I have very few programs under all programs, but over twice as many in my add/delete programs. how can i get these other programs into my start menu?

I read some posts stating to "unhide" all the folders in windows explorer to help the situation. That seemed to restore alot of programs, but I still can't launch certain programs off the Start Menu nor can I see their shortcut in Windows Explorer. I'm able to open files using those programs from Windows explorer, I just cant open the program itself from the Start Menu. The folders of those programs on the Start Menu say "empty" and no program is displayed.

Therefore, as the reader suggested, to then, after turning the feature off and"add links to the programs you do want there manually" doesn't do it since I may not want them there 'next week' nor do I like the idea of me having to manually add them and manually remove them all the time. I have to search for the program to start it and pin it to the taskbar if I want to keep it accessible.I've tried a few registry hacks, security settings and even tried to copy some shortcuts over. So the problem is that when I open a drop down menu in those programs the program either flickers a lot or it goes in the background and I have to alt+tab to get it back every time. It is really annoying because I can't do almost all important things in Lightwave and I can't save images in other formats in Photoshop beacuse of the drop down menu, and in other programs it flickers a lot and is just annoying.

I am also looking to add Microsoft Word 2007, and Microsoft Outlook 2007 to that right-click drop down menu too. I would assume, I may be wrong, but would these be conducted or setup the same way like OneNote is? I use these applications a lot and it would make things a little quicker and easier.
