In Vista and older versions, if I right clicked on a program in the taskbar I could then move the mouse up ever so slightly to click "close."
Now there is a weird little "box" that pops up instead of a menu, and I have to move my mouse significantly further to get to "close." Sounds trivial, but if I am shutting down several applications in a row it is much slower this way.
Is there a way to return the right click menu to normal?
The red x icon for the close window option is cut off. Using stock skin. Probably easier to understand if you see a pic, What's caused this and how can I fix it?

However, it worked at the beginning (just after Windows installation), and it still work for other programs. I tried a system restore, and the problem persist.

Like the title says, most of the programs listed in the start menu are gone. They can still be accessed from other places, like the task bar and shortcuts, at least most of them. I would show a picture, but I can't access Paint. The only things that remain are Mahjong, Chess, Solitaire, Purble Place and Magnifier in the main menu and under All Programs: IE, some accessories (not including paint), McAfee, Google Chrome, The startup folder, and WinRAR.

Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo about a month ago I restarted my computer and when it came back on all my programs pinned to my task bar and everything that was in my start menu was gone. From there I could not unlock the taskbar and nothing would pin in either the start menu or taskbar. I researched everywhere about it. I tried unlocking the taskbar in properties and registry with no luck. I finally found some posts about how my user profile was corrupt and from there I went on and made a new profile and copied everything and BOOM it all worked fine now. Well today it happened AGAIN! I restarted my computer and everything disappeared. So I think it is still a corrupt profile, but this is the second time it has happened.

That said, He can not pin anything to taskbar or start menu. I cleared both folders of shortcuts(567 of them) but to no avail. He also has no options under his desktop Context menu for New. He is also using a roaming profile, of which I will disable next time I am there. I have a feeling that might be the issue. I did scour the internet trying all the usual suggestions, but do vaguely remember something about an entry in cache somewhere that if it is too big or corrupt, it could cause this behavior. I am unable to find that post anywhere now.I mention the network card because one post had taskbar issues until he disabled his faulty network card. I have disabled the faulty network card.

There was a nasty virus on it that I managed to get rid of, but now programs won't run unless I first right click and click "Run as Administrator". Shortcuts also won't work (I assume for the same reason.) Does anyone know of a fix for this so we don't have to constantly click "Run as Administrator"? By the way, there is only one user on the computer and it is an administrator.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I'm on my computer, whether I'm browsing the web or typing a document or watching a movie, the right click menu randomly pops up, hindering what ever I am trying to do. Some times when typing it will pop up i escape out then go on to continue writing but it just comes back! It's extremely annoying and i can figure out what is causing it. I'm currently using a desktop machine with Windows 7 home premium 62 bit, and i have tried more than once unplugging my mouse and plugging it back in. I even swapped it out with a new mouse nothing changed!

The windows are also faded out as if they are in the background. I have to ctrl+alt+delete and cancel to get things working again for a little while. When I right-click on certain things (in this case, all types of files), some of the entries in the right-click menu are shorter than the others, and stick out of place. One of them is my Bluetooth "Send to Bluetooth Device" entry, which looks to be about 4 pixels shorter, and really does stick out like a sore thumb.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA few minutes ago I highlighted a URL, right clicked in order to copy and the right click context menu did not open.
Unfortunately one cannot use Edit/Copy in the command bar for a URL.
I then attempted to copy random text from a web page and again no right click context menu. I was able to copy the text using Edit/Copy. I can also use Edit/Copy in notepad.
I also discovered that I have no right click context menu at all. I tried right clicking on the taskbar, the desktop, desktop icons, and in an empty space in my top command bars. Next I tried to copy the URL using SeaMonkey. Didn't work.
It worked earlier today. I have made no changes to anything that would cause this to happen. I really need the context menu. How do I get it back?
edit to add: I uninstalled the software for my mouse, reinstalled, didn't cure the problem. I did a google search and found an article by Microsoft which I followed but did not resolve the issue.
I just noticed for the first time after 2+ years of using Windows 7.I have all sorts of shortcuts I use that are just stuck in my memory from older versions of Win. Right click + W + F = new folder.Right click + W + T = new text doc.I just noticed however, that in the right click menu, the shortcut letters aren't underlined anymore like they were in older versions.for example, New used to be written New. For me this is not a huge deal since I already know most of them but why would MS intentionally remove a helpful feature like that (especially while leaving the functionality in)? A new user will have no way of knowing that shortcut exists without seeing the underlined letters.The only reason I'm noticing now, after so long, is because I'm learning Ubuntu/Linux and noticed they do have the underlined letters in their GUI, and then coming back to Win I noticed they don't.

It ran alright for a few days but over the last 2 days, I've been getting a flickering type problem. Now whatever is causing this is also affecting my ability to click or tab items or right click an item. After I got through and did a clean install of Windows 7, I went and did all of my customizations, and I tried to modify the right-click menu using registry edits that I found online. They would add to the registry successfully, but would not appear in the right-click menu. I also tried to delete the graphic preferences, which worked, but after rebooting, they reappeared again. I've been running this system just fine until recently when this problem with the right-click menu started. Actually, it is a problem specific to the "New" portion of the right-click menu in Windows Explorer. I can right-click a blank portion of an Explorer window and I get the usual instant pop-out menu; but, if I click "New", it takes a full ten seconds to respond. For ten seconds, it is as though I didn't click at all, then the "New" nested menu appears and everything works as normal. If I impatiently click several times in a row during that ten seconds (on "New"), everything grays for the rest of the ten seconds, then the Windows Desktop redraws completely and I have to start over again trying to use the "New" menu.
I have read several threads in different forums regarding different types of issues with right clicking in Win 7 x64. My issue is when right clicking on folders/files within the Window Explorer. Below is my set up:
Win 7 Ultimate (64) - SP1 Build 7601
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 (2.47Ghz dual core)
Asus AV8 Deluxe
4GB ram
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (Driver 96.85)
I am logged in as Administrator by default. I did not have this issue before.I only have the following installed (in order of installation):Office 2007 / IE / Firefox / MS Security Essentials / Spyware Doctor / Malwarebytes / Adobe Master Collection CS4 / AVS4You Suite / WinRAR / VLC player / Picasa / Orbit Down Loader / Mp3tag / and Rocketdock with Stack docklet
Issue:I can right click on the desktop, desktop icons, task bar, and start menu with no problems (including inside the start menu). As an example - if a go to the start menu and left click on My Computer, the Windows Explorer will open as normal (displaying all my drives). At this level I can right click on my drives and the menu pops up with no problems. But as a further example - if I left click on my C: drive, in order to go into the next level in Windows Explorer, I will see the folder/files inside the C: drive (like normal). But at this point (or further levels), if I right click on any folders or files - the menu will pop up so fast (like a split second flash) and go away. It does not give me the chance to do anything. And after this split second flash, the Windows Explorer goes back to the previous level (as if I hit the Back button).
It does not matter how deep I navigate into the folder structure (anything past the first level - where the Drives are displayed) - as soon as I right click, the same "flash" happens. Including the backing up of a level each time I right click, until I end up back at my Drives again. Yet if I were to copy-n-move any folder/file to the desk top level, then I can right click like normal (even though within the Windows Explorer I could not).Is this a Security/Permission setting? Or is this a corrupted Context Menu issue (inside one of the registry levels)?
