View 2 RepliesAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

To launch mozilla firefox, it takes a good 12 seconds, and to open other apps such as Word 2007 it takes about 15 seconds...why with a processor such as this is it this sluggish?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo coming here was sort of a last resort, I've been scouring the internet for information but I've failed to no avail. My problem is that the Sims 3 Launcher and game is running in the background is what I've gathering from bits and pieces of information I've picked up the past two hours. I've checked the task manager and in the Processes tab it shows it running, or processing, I just cannot see it or access it no matter what I try. I'm getting no error code, nothing out of the ordinary. I've already tried bypassing the launcher and the game seems to be running in the background too.how actually stop a program from running in the background if possible, it just happened to a game, sorry for any inconvenience.

View 8 Replies View Relatedrecently (past couple of months) my laptop seems to have something constantly running in the background [you can hear it clicking away pretty much all the time] & it seems to be running at least 60% slower than normal - at times my typing is faster than it seems to be able to cope with [ie: when typing an email] and I'm not thaat fast - are there any obvious/likely culprits? Presumably it could be that something is taking up a lot of capacity in the background?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOn a fresh boot, after my desktop loads but before I launch any browsing/email/internet applications, I notice I have two or three instances of iexplore.exe running in the list of active processes. Does this seem "normal" for Windows 7, or should I be concerned that iexplore.exe is running even when I have not launched IE?
(Windows 7 x64). Browser is IE8, but Firefox & Chrome are also installed.
I'm having trouble with several games opening their pre-game menus properly but then disappearing. They are running in the background but can only be seen in task manager and do not appear on the task bar. I have had this problem with multiple different games from different publishers so I'm assuming it is an error on my end. The games I have tried are Starcraft 2, Half-life, and a multitude of Steam games. I have a self-built computer running Windows 7. I'll list specs below

Usually when I create an email marketing campaign I give my email message a background picture by placing markup similar to the following into the body tag;<body style="background-image: url('http://myserver/somepicture.jpg');>Traditionally this has been fine, however over the last day I have noticed that Outlook takes a very long time to open these kinds of messages. I have had a look through my old email campaigns, and much to my surprise I have found messages which opened fine six months ago taking a long time to open. This issue is happening on more than just my computer, as I have asked staff & customers about their Outlook experience, and some have even reported a complete crash of Outlook.I am using Outlook 2010, however I think that Outlook 2007 is also being affected.

I have a Dell 8400 and a few questions about upgrading to Win 7 64 bit. (I am a complete NoOb when it comes to installing an OS).

I will have 2GB of this RAM Thursday with another 2GB of the same RAM the following week or the week after that. Corsair Dominator DDR2 Ram Memory PC-6400 800 MHZ [URL] After the RAM I will be getting a new Graphics Card. Also I have a spare 650 watt PSU if needed.
I ran the Window upgrade advisor and the only things it flagged was (of course) that I only had 512MB of RAM and outlook express. It did say custom installation required, whatever that means.
1. My first question to everyone is, can my Dell even run Windows 7 64-bit?
I googled around and it seems possible.
2. My second question is can I install it with the 512MB of RAM I have now?
3. My last question is can I install this along side XP on my HD?
4. My third question is does anyone know of a good very detailed step by step Noob guide for installing it next to XP?
I have never installed an OS before and if it does not work I am screwed!
I do know it is better to do a fresh install and no I cannot by another HD right now, I know they are cheap but I will be scraping together all I have just for the RAM and Graphics card.
My problem is that, I really only have the time to do this over the long weekend and cannot wait for the RAM to get here.
The guy on e-bay is a clown and did not ship it when he was supposed to and it will not be here in time.
I just need it up and running and can add the RAM as it comes but I am under a serious time constraint and if I don't get this done now over the Memorial day weekend it will be a long time before I have enough time to do this.
bios drops ram to 256k for installing operating system. without going that way it doesnt find the c drive

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 32 bit 2010 Office Home and Student version loaded on a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium version. Would this be a problem with the VBA programming or is there a problem with running certain 32 bit excel programs on a 64 bit windows system?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.

I have a computer based training program that is designed to run on older Windows versions. The last version that I had it working on was XP. I am trying to get it to run on my new Windows 7 machine, with no luck. Windows has a patch to run XP programs, but it is not available for my home version of Windows.
