View 4 RepliesAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

It's not really using any resources, but with me being paranoid, I'm really scared :/ Checked it with process explorer, this is what it yields:

I removed battery from HP Mini for a while, and internal clock on Windows 7 Starter is on time.
How's internal clock running on time w/o battery?
New laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64 and I am transferring stuff over from the dying Windows 7 Starter netbook. On the netbook I had seven Shortcuts in the Startup Folder and they all launched fine at Boot up. I copied them to the Windows 7 Pro Startup and one of them does not run. I can double click the Shortcut manually and it launches fine, just not during the Boot up.The program is SpeedFan (SF). I have tried using various options in the Compatibility Tab for SF and I have UAC set to Off for Admin boots. Nothing allows SF to launch during the Boot up.

I will have 2GB of this RAM Thursday with another 2GB of the same RAM the following week or the week after that. Corsair Dominator DDR2 Ram Memory PC-6400 800 MHZ [URL] After the RAM I will be getting a new Graphics Card. Also I have a spare 650 watt PSU if needed.
I ran the Window upgrade advisor and the only things it flagged was (of course) that I only had 512MB of RAM and outlook express. It did say custom installation required, whatever that means.
1. My first question to everyone is, can my Dell even run Windows 7 64-bit?
I googled around and it seems possible.
2. My second question is can I install it with the 512MB of RAM I have now?
3. My last question is can I install this along side XP on my HD?
4. My third question is does anyone know of a good very detailed step by step Noob guide for installing it next to XP?
I have never installed an OS before and if it does not work I am screwed!
I do know it is better to do a fresh install and no I cannot by another HD right now, I know they are cheap but I will be scraping together all I have just for the RAM and Graphics card.
My problem is that, I really only have the time to do this over the long weekend and cannot wait for the RAM to get here.
The guy on e-bay is a clown and did not ship it when he was supposed to and it will not be here in time.
I just need it up and running and can add the RAM as it comes but I am under a serious time constraint and if I don't get this done now over the Memorial day weekend it will be a long time before I have enough time to do this.
bios drops ram to 256k for installing operating system. without going that way it doesnt find the c drive
View 1 Replies View RelatedA certain set of programs take over a minute to run. If I double click the executable it takes over a minute before the program launches.Equally attempting to access the file properties takes a similar amount of time.(the file happens to be audioconverter.exe (part of a set of programs to re-encode mkv's - e.g. strip out of the dts track and reencode with ac3, etc.)Only files in this set of sub-directories seem to be affected, the rest of the machine performs perfectly
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.
I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.
I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.
I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?
So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running into this issue of having complete access to one PC running windows 7 from another one that is also running windows 7. One of the PC's is a windows 7 pro 32 bit and the other is window 7 ultimate 64 bit. I have had them setup with public and dedicated folder sharing. But from time to time I find that a file I want to get off one or the other was not saved to a shared folder. I have been looking for a way to allow complete access from one PC to other one (going both directions). I use 2 PC all the times and it really depends on where I am in the house as to what one I am using as one is laptop and the other is a desktop. They are both on the same network. It is just one of the strange things that I have not been able to find a way to get complete file access without the use of software like Teamviewer or others like it.What I would like to do it just go to the network location in the windows explore to get the files I want from the other PC.
