View 1 RepliesIs there a setting on win 7 whereby I can have it defragment without having to leave it on all the time? Also when it defragments while I am using it, it slows down a lot so that's not a good solution for me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have desktop that is less than 2 years old and it is having two problems: First, if I step away from the computer for a few minutes and come back to the computer, the screen is black and none of the keys will wake up the monitor. Also, I am unable to turn off the tower, even when holding down the button for 10 seconds. The only way to turn it off is to unplug the tower. When I plug it back in, I get everything back on the screen just like it was before I walked away.
The other problem is that the system clock will not keep time. This just happened a week or so ago. Whenever I manually update the sync, it resets, but won't keep time for long. From reading other posts on this forum, it seems that the CMOS battery may be an issue. Since the computer isn't that old and isn't used constantly, does that still seem reasonable? Is that normally covered under a warranty? I have never had a problem with other computers.
i would like to if its possible on windows 7 to run a bat each time computer starts from HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun for example of from startup or its just not possible because of the uac ? i dont want to use task scheduler
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have my power options set to turn off the monitor after 20 minutes and the computer is not set to sleep or hibernate. When over 20 minutes has expired, the monitors do not turn off. On rare occasion they do, though (by 'they' I am referring to dual monitors).
I Googled this issue and tried disabling "Allow this device to wake the computer" on the properties page for that network device in device manager. This didn't work. What could be preventing my displays from automatically turning off? Note that during this time I have torrents running, so I'm not sure if it is indeed still the network connectivity that is causing this issue. I never had this kind of problem in Windows XP.
Why does my screen sometimes goes blank after a period of inactivity ( like 8 hours )? And sometimes not!. My monitor screen just turns off ( yellow light ). Then i just turn my mouse and screen goes back to normal. ITS TOTALLY RANDOM!
I disabled the screen saver and I disabled the option of the OS turning off the screen. Yet, the screen will still turn itself off after a period of inactivity. I'm currently using a Asus Monitor 19'

Asus Sabertooth Z77

Everytime I start playing league of legends, game window is displaced beyond display, I have to use WinSpy everytime to get it to right position, because of other reasons I have to play it in borderless mode
how to make it start in right position? Or in other words, is there something in registry that saves window position? and how do I get to that?
I am having real problems, I am not great with the computer but know my way around alittle. My PC is running at 100% CPU usage all the time which slows everything down.

Earlier today my dad turned on our computer to a blue screen. It told him to restart the computer if he had never seen it before, and he did. However, we cannot get it to start back up. When we press the power button, the fan runs (harder than usual), but the monitor stays asleep.

I removed battery from HP Mini for a while, and internal clock on Windows 7 Starter is on time.
How's internal clock running on time w/o battery?
New laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64 and I am transferring stuff over from the dying Windows 7 Starter netbook. On the netbook I had seven Shortcuts in the Startup Folder and they all launched fine at Boot up. I copied them to the Windows 7 Pro Startup and one of them does not run. I can double click the Shortcut manually and it launches fine, just not during the Boot up.The program is SpeedFan (SF). I have tried using various options in the Compatibility Tab for SF and I have UAC set to Off for Admin boots. Nothing allows SF to launch during the Boot up.

I will have 2GB of this RAM Thursday with another 2GB of the same RAM the following week or the week after that. Corsair Dominator DDR2 Ram Memory PC-6400 800 MHZ [URL] After the RAM I will be getting a new Graphics Card. Also I have a spare 650 watt PSU if needed.
I ran the Window upgrade advisor and the only things it flagged was (of course) that I only had 512MB of RAM and outlook express. It did say custom installation required, whatever that means.
1. My first question to everyone is, can my Dell even run Windows 7 64-bit?
I googled around and it seems possible.
2. My second question is can I install it with the 512MB of RAM I have now?
3. My last question is can I install this along side XP on my HD?
4. My third question is does anyone know of a good very detailed step by step Noob guide for installing it next to XP?
I have never installed an OS before and if it does not work I am screwed!
I do know it is better to do a fresh install and no I cannot by another HD right now, I know they are cheap but I will be scraping together all I have just for the RAM and Graphics card.
My problem is that, I really only have the time to do this over the long weekend and cannot wait for the RAM to get here.
The guy on e-bay is a clown and did not ship it when he was supposed to and it will not be here in time.
I just need it up and running and can add the RAM as it comes but I am under a serious time constraint and if I don't get this done now over the Memorial day weekend it will be a long time before I have enough time to do this.
bios drops ram to 256k for installing operating system. without going that way it doesnt find the c drive

If I double click the executable it takes over a minute before the program launches.Equally attempting to access the file properties takes a similar amount of time.(the file happens to be audioconverter.exe (part of a set of programs to re-encode mkv's - e.g. strip out of the dts track and reencode with ac3, etc.)Only files in this set of sub-directories seem to be affected, the rest of the machine performs perfectly

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor. But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything. Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I maximize any window, it never takes up the whole screen. Instead, it stops short about half a centimeter from the top of the screen, where I can see my desktop. View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat i mean is, if i drag or right click a file (picture, folder or film etc) and select delete, the file goes to the recycle bin no problem, but it appears to stay on the desktop too. It is definately in the bin also, if i select the file once in the bin it wont open because windows tells me it doesnt exsist so why is the icon left behind ? its anoying to have to refresh to see it dissapear.
Also emptying the bin of the file doesnt make a difference either. Icon remains.I have ran a virus check, spyware, malware etc... PC is as clean as a whistle.
I had only used it for a day and then the next day it wouldn't even turn on. I have tried everything that I can think of to fix it. From unplugging it and plugging it back in, changing out the power cord with a different one, trying to plug it into a different location in the house, turning the surge protector on and off, etc. I opened the side up and everything seemed to be in place and nothing was obviously unplugged. We do have a warranty but when we called we got put on hold for an hour + and gave up. We will probably call them again Monday I just wondered if there was something else that I should try before calling it quits and switching the computer out completely.
