How's internal clock running on time w/o battery?
If the internal battery on my desktop pc is dead, could this cause my pc not to start? And if so, by replacing it will I be able to start my,pc normally or do I have to do something else?Reason I'm asking is my pc has power but no splash, screen shows up. The light indicator that shows, activity goes on briefly and the dvd light indicator, turns on briefly. But nothing happens, black screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 professional service pack 1 installed on my computer. I found that the clock time does not set to new time even if I change it, after a minute or to it automatically reverts back to false settings. I tried changing it by clicking the clock time on the right bottom corner and changed it to current time. In internet time tab of change time and date setting window, it is set to time.windows.com. Is there anything I could do to set it right? What is the reason of this behaviour?
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few months ago I did a fresh install of Windows 7, I went from 32 bit to 64 bit. Since then every once in a while I notice that my clock is 2 hours off, I am in central time and when it loses time it loses 2 hours.
I would normally think if I am losing time it is my CMOS battery but it's not like I am losing time, like 23 minutes or an hour and 5 minutes, it is always 2 hours exactly when it happens.
I got this sexy pc my man built me less than a year ago and it's been working fine (or maybe I haven't noticed before) but in the past few months the clock is resetting every time[i] I reboot. It seems to lose time over a couple hours of just being turned on as well. It's a very stealthy process so I haven't actually seen it do it, but all of a sudden I'll be late for work again, and blaming my pc has become a lame excuse. I've read topics on this, my motherboard battery is dead, but it's not only on reboots as it happens every day and I barely ever turn it off. Anyway. If it is the mb battery, how do I find this out? It's my gaming pc if that matters in any way and my motherboard is the hot Sabertooth x58. I'm running windows 7 ultimate.
View 10 Replies View RelatedEverything on my system is running like I like it to with the exception of the system clock in windows 7. It got this way when I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a separate SSD that has to be chosen in BIOS. The Ubuntu clock is correct but every time I switch from Windows to Ubuntu and back again the clock in Windows is exactly six hours fast. I have re-set the clock to the correct time but this happens every time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have desktop that is less than 2 years old and it is having two problems: First, if I step away from the computer for a few minutes and come back to the computer, the screen is black and none of the keys will wake up the monitor. Also, I am unable to turn off the tower, even when holding down the button for 10 seconds. The only way to turn it off is to unplug the tower. When I plug it back in, I get everything back on the screen just like it was before I walked away.
The other problem is that the system clock will not keep time. This just happened a week or so ago. Whenever I manually update the sync, it resets, but won't keep time for long. From reading other posts on this forum, it seems that the CMOS battery may be an issue. Since the computer isn't that old and isn't used constantly, does that still seem reasonable? Is that normally covered under a warranty? I have never had a problem with other computers.
As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

Then, it will proceed to switch back and fourth between plugged in and not, forcing my laptop to switch between power modes. (I'm guessing this is stress on the CPU and I do not want it to have to do that all the time)It's getting annoying having to deal with my laptop getting hot and such because of the switching power modes.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOkay, so it's been over a year, and my 6cell battery is beginning to die out. I ordered a replacement battery from eBay rather than Dell. I'm a college student, and paying $50 sounded better than paying $200. Anyways, I bought a 9cell battery for my XPS. So here's what happens when I plug in the new battery:
AC Charger with NO battery: Computer runs perfectly fine
AC Charger with battery: Computer runs perfectly fine
Battery with NO AC charger: Problems...
When I plugged in just the battery alone, I went into BIOS and saw that the system's date and time were screwed up; it was showing some weird date in the year 1901. With this new battery, sometimes the hard drive wouldn't load. For example, when I turn my computer on, I can hear the hard drive spinning, but after a couple of seconds, the whole system just...freezes.
I initially thought it was a problem with my hard drive, since a screen kept coming up saying that some of the Windows files were corrupt. I did a clean install of Windows 7, and even tried Vista, but still nothing. With Vista, the date and time would still mess up, and sometimes nothing would load. I even tried system restoring after booting from the CD drive, but I received an error message that I had no shadow copies to restore from. I tried starting up with another hard drive, but still had the same issues.
Right now I'm using my old battery, and I get the message "Consider Replacing Your Battery." Can anyone help shed some light on this issue? Does the problem seem to be with the new battery?

If I unplug the power cord on my laptop before I shut it down, then when I turn it back on the system date time is set to a random date (e.g., 1655). This is the only thing that works.
1. Shut down laptop (while plugged in)
2. Remove the battery (while still plugged in)
3. Unplug power cord (then when I want to turn it back on)
4. Plug in power cord first
5. Reattach battery
6. Restart computer
(Either that or leave the power cord connected all the time, but that defeats the whole purpose of being portable!) I bought a new battery. Replaced the CMOS battery. That didn't work either.

i've a toshiba satellite A300-1C9 and it was time to change the battery so i've bought a new one the brand 2-power 6600mAh, but Windows 7 can't find the battery? if i unplug the ac the battery works GREAT but i can't see the percentage and time leftwhen i plug the ac back in it says "on ac - but no charging"
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way in Windows 7 to have some programs run on startup, and some not based on if you are connected to an outlet or using a battery? For example, when I am running on battery for the day, I want to conserve battery life so it would be convenient to have only the bare essentials startup that are necessary for the laptop to work normally.A couple of years ago, I used a program that delayed startup applications but I am looking for a way to have different options based on battery or outlet use, Like how the Power Options allows a a few different tweaks based on battery or being plugged in.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I bought a new laptop, people kept telling me to take off the laptop battery once in a while and let it run solely on the charger/cable. They say that this could reduce the chances of overheating and could maintain a longer battery life. However, there have been others who say that it's actually bad to do so. Is it best to keep the laptop running with battery or not?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 4 internal HDDs and have had this setup for about 2 months now. I had to reformat my computer this week and have since been having a problem with my hard drives. While I am browsing folders and occasionally even using programs, my HDDs will seize up for around 5-10 seconds. One of the drives starts to make some loading noises and then eventually they begin to work again. While this is happening I can usually use the GUI that is loaded and most things loaded into RAM, however I cannot access the HDD for anything new.One of the internal drives was originally an external drive, the Seagate FreeAgent 500GB. I suspect it may be the culprit here. I was having this exact same problem before with it; whenever I'd plug it in through USB, even if accessing another drive, I'd have the computer seize up and have to wait for it to finish making similar sounding loading noises. Removing it from the case and plugging it in internally fixed the issue completely, until I reformatted this week. I have checked all the cache options for the drives and they are all set the same; default which is just the top option checked off. I did this as I suspected that the Seagate drive is set with the same cache options as it did when external, but it's not the case.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell M1330 laptop purchased some years ago which is currently running Windows 7. Despite my latest attempts to correct the audio problem, it still persists. My internal speakers are the only ones affected by this problem. When I plug external speakers into my computer they work just fine. The problem doesn't change depending on what type of audio or video I am running. I have run the windows 7 integrated driver updating software and it has said that all of my audio drivers are up to date.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
I am having real problems, I am not great with the computer but know my way around alittle. My PC is running at 100% CPU usage all the time which slows everything down.

If I remove the battery/powersupply/reinstall driver it works for a minute or so, then goes back to this.Pretty sure it's software related, as this happened exactly after a windows re-install.
