"a Clock Interrupt Was Not Received On A Secondary Processor Within The Allocated Time Interval"
Apr 8, 2012
Occasionally when i have firefox open and browsing my computer BSOD and i get an error as follows, "a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval". I have stress tested my CPU to see if it is faulty and it is perfectly fine. The PC is rather new about 3 months and i built it myself.
CPU- intel i5 sandy bridge 3.3 ghz
Motherboard- AsRock z68 Extreme 4
SSD- OCZ agility 120 gb
HDD- Western digital 3tb
GPU- on board graphics (due to power supply not being able to run add on graphic card)
PSU- master cooler 600W
I am not overclocking at all and have never messed with those setting due to the fact that i do not have a water cooler yet.

I have done a quick search around here to see if I could locate this problem so as not to replicate it but couldn't find anything so I'll fire away.I recently bought Windows 7 Pro 64-bit upgrade, I'm currently running XP Pro 32-bit. I ran into some problems during setup, most of which I managed to fix, but the latest one has me stumped.Basically when the setup reaches the 'expanding Windows files' part of the setup I get a BSOD which reads: Clock interrupt not received on secondary processor within allocated timeframe.[CODE]I suppose I can safely assume that the problem is hardware related, but exactly what is beyond me. I was wondering if it could be to do with the memory not being paired? I have recently replaced my hard drive with a new one as my last XP installation's registry became corrupt beyond the point of salvaging.

Where my BSOD's were not often at all. However these other days in the week, they've been happening every 2-3 days. But that has also dissapeared. Now i BSOD really often, when ever the computer feels like it.This started happening as i said 2 weeks ago when i changed my Motherboard and Processor. Because my old one was a AMD 5200+ Dualcore on a M2N-E Asus AM2.They both died at the same time. So i got myself a ASRock N68-S UCC.But do note that the first four to five days this didnt happen.Everything was fine after changing my hardware. So .. Ive read my minidumps with "whocrashed" and it indicates it is most likely a driver/ software problem and NOT hardware.Yes indeed this is a wall of text, but as a gamer i cannot proceed to enjoy my hobby with a BSOD constantly popping up.My usual temperatures for the CPU are about 35C at idle and 40C - 50C Ingame. Same goes with GPU and just about everything else.I am running on the latest drivers for all of my components, ive tried rolling back to see if the BSOD's dissapear but nope.So im guessing it's not those.I compressed the minidump into a rar file and uploaded it. There is a file also called "Additional info" make sure to read it!It contains important information gathered by "whocrashed".

I'm on windows 7 x64 bit and ive suddenly been getting this error messege alot. Everytime i play TF2, within like 10 minutes of starting the computer BSODs and give me the error messege "a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor" its happened like 5 times so its not a fluke. The latest hardware changes i have done:3 weeks ago: bought a pci GPU to run a third monitor and replaced a wireless G adapter with a wireless N adapter 1 week ago: went back to my wireless G adapter because the wireless N adapter SUCKED (who set of headaches...)I only started getting this error messege about 3 days ago. Ive read some forums and people have been saying that it could be a core on the CPU going bad. I'm thinking about replacing my cpu soon, but i dont want to do it then still get the same error messege.

am getting 2 bsod on computer after installing a printer? was working without flaw up until then. first (and most persistent) is the one on the subject line and the other is "problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage"I've attached photos of both with appropriate minidumps for anyone who would like to give this a shot. I already uninstalled any drivers associated with the printer. I had a video card radeon hd 4670 that I uninstalled and actually got to go 4 hours without a reboot, but it happened anyway. I have bitdefender total home security running, but I have for the better part of a year without any trouble.

So i've been getting very regular blue screens only while playing games, and I thought it was about time to try and fix this as it has been happeneing nearly every 10-15 minutes after playing. (specifically the games played are bf3, arma 2, guild wars 2 and counterstrike global offensive). The error I get on the blue screen is "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval" and it's the exact same message every time. Sometimes my computer will lock up and play a horrible sounding noise (sounds a bit like "errrrrrrrttttt") it will mostly BSOD shortly after but sometimes it even comes back. I downloaded blue screen viewer and it seems from there that a driver called "ntoskrnl.exe" is the main culprit, however some other drivers are showing up as the cause, this one (ntoskrnl.exe) seems to be the main one causing it. I've attched the mini dump files for the last 5 blue screens.[CODE]

So a few days ago this problem started when playing just WoW, My computer would randomly lock up for 5-10 seconds at a time, during this period the sound would loop and the entire computer would lock up. The problem got worse and worse to where most of the time it happens now i have to do a hard reset of my system. It is still isolated to WoW most of the time however i have started getting short lock ups when playing other games, never lasting more than a couple seconds in those. Not sure why this problem just started but here are a few facts:Since it started i have updated my BIOS as well as my Graphics drivers, ive checked for virus and also done a system restore. attached is my JCGRIFF2 File and below is my DXDIAG.[CODE]

The HP laptop I have was designed for Win XP and someone upgraded it to Win 7 Ultimate before I obtained it. Everything ran fine until recently it started blue screening. The message says "a clock interupt was not received on a second processor". It appears updating the BIOS would work but HP does not offer a BIOS upgrade for Win 7, only for Vista and before. It appears you can use some drivers from XP though I am not sure BIOS would be one of those drivers.

i have an intel i5 2400 cpu, combined with 4gb ddr3 memory. mobo is dh67bl - revision 3. no gpu installed.power supply is via corsair vx450.problem i been facing:
1) bsod saying that a clock interrupt wasnt recd. [url]
2) bsod saying: page fault in non paging area. couldnt grab a screenshot for this.
3) display randomly goes off for a split second and reappears.. but the color of the panes go blue (i havent chosen blue. my setting is for clear pane.)[url] this error solves itself after random number of hours/mins
4) display vanishes for a split second and reappears, and a small balloon at the bottom right corner prompts that the display driver had stopped working.
5) system plain hangs/stops responding. randomly happens.. but more so while on Internet, or after hrs of it idling, i come back to the comp and try to scroll the content onscreen.sometime it revives from the stuck state as if nothing happened, sometimes i have to give it a cold boot.
6) while reading forums with blue bands.. the blue bands kinda form blurry bars which stretch till the end of the screen. i tried to grab a screenshot but the screenshots were clean. the bands moved as i dragged the image about.
7) also, my comp's display went off one day and within a second came back with a blue-ish hue. it restored itself but again has gone back to blue-ish.

I just allocated more space to my system restore to ensure that when i back up files/docs there will be sufficient space. But does the allocated space for system restore affect at all how much space is allocated for backup? If not, i will would like to turn back down the allocated space for the restore.

I have windows 7 professional service pack 1 installed on my computer. I found that the clock time does not set to new time even if I change it, after a minute or to it automatically reverts back to false settings. I tried changing it by clicking the clock time on the right bottom corner and changed it to current time. In internet time tab of change time and date setting window, it is set to time.windows.com. Is there anything I could do to set it right? What is the reason of this behaviour?

A few months ago I did a fresh install of Windows 7, I went from 32 bit to 64 bit. Since then every once in a while I notice that my clock is 2 hours off, I am in central time and when it loses time it loses 2 hours.
I would normally think if I am losing time it is my CMOS battery but it's not like I am losing time, like 23 minutes or an hour and 5 minutes, it is always 2 hours exactly when it happens.

I got this sexy pc my man built me less than a year ago and it's been working fine (or maybe I haven't noticed before) but in the past few months the clock is resetting every time[i] I reboot. It seems to lose time over a couple hours of just being turned on as well. It's a very stealthy process so I haven't actually seen it do it, but all of a sudden I'll be late for work again, and blaming my pc has become a lame excuse. I've read topics on this, my motherboard battery is dead, but it's not only on reboots as it happens every day and I barely ever turn it off. Anyway. If it is the mb battery, how do I find this out? It's my gaming pc if that matters in any way and my motherboard is the hot Sabertooth x58. I'm running windows 7 ultimate.

I have desktop that is less than 2 years old and it is having two problems: First, if I step away from the computer for a few minutes and come back to the computer, the screen is black and none of the keys will wake up the monitor. Also, I am unable to turn off the tower, even when holding down the button for 10 seconds. The only way to turn it off is to unplug the tower. When I plug it back in, I get everything back on the screen just like it was before I walked away.
The other problem is that the system clock will not keep time. This just happened a week or so ago. Whenever I manually update the sync, it resets, but won't keep time for long. From reading other posts on this forum, it seems that the CMOS battery may be an issue. Since the computer isn't that old and isn't used constantly, does that still seem reasonable? Is that normally covered under a warranty? I have never had a problem with other computers.

I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.

Ever since I changed my RAM modules, Windows always allocated more space to the pagefile. When I had 4GB of RAM, the advised size of the pagefile by Windows was 6GB. I now have 8GB of RAM and Windows recommended size for the PF is 12GB. So I set a fixed size of 12GB for the PF and didn't let Windows manage the file by itself. I'm about to get 4x 4GB of RAM for a total of 16GB. And I think it would be really exaggerated to allocate 16GBx1.5=24GB for the pagefile, especially because my system is on a 60GB SSD.
I want to keep a pagefile so please don't advise me to disable it. This is my workstation and believe me I will use all of the 16GB of RAM. My question is: what is the size I should give to the pagefile to avoid any problem (like app crashes)? Is there a way to see in Windows how much MB or GB is currently used by the pagefile? --> That would be a good way to assess my needs.

I have allocated approx 18gb of space for system restore and it is currently sitting around 12gb. My question is, why do I only have 2 days worth of system restore available? When there is still more space, I would expect it to go back a bit further and the way that I understand it, Windows 7 keeps storing them until it is out of allocated space.

It gets to the install and gets stuck on the gathering files. Then shows a message that allocated file are not available. I remade my disk, and started my computer..but it doesn't boot the install, it shows the error:

When attaching a flash drive:
1. The autoplay pop up doesn't appear;
2. The device does light up initially;
3. The device doesn't show up in "Computer"
4. The device doesn't show up in Disk Management - just Disk 0 (system reserved, C: and I and 0 (CD ROM)
5. The device appears in Device Manager under USB controllers as a storage device but I can't access it.
6. This happens with all memory sticks and occasionally with ipod etc.. but sometimes for no apparent reason they work! All devices works ok with other computers.
7. 9 times out of 10 plugging in a device or turning on the USB attached printer will cause the computer to BSOD, usually with IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL 0X0000000A
8. Devices are never allocated a drive letter.
The only thing I can think of is that I repartitioned the external hard drive (which I attach to back up) which may have confused the computer with driver numbers? Possibly?! And I did fiddle with the System Reserved drive as I had back up issues and one of the solutions was to rename it, then I renamed it back again (I think).I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit, Avira anti virus and the computer is about 6 months old, working ok until a month ago. Can't think that we downloaded anything about the same time as the problem started but possible. I've tried to update all drivers that I can think of but the only one that needed doing was the Nvidia GeForce 7025 which was outdated.

Chkdisk on my new Windows 7 install returned the following:
"CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the master file table (MFT) bitmap.
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap".
Windows has made corrections to the file system. This is a brand new clean install of Windows that's barely been used. What could have caused this? I'm trying to troubleshoot problems with slow boots and general lack of responsiveness, and have reinstalled three times now trying to fix it...

Recently I have noticed higher than normal CPU usage from my laptop which I know will reduce battery life, cause higher temperatures and slow the computers performance. The task manager did not tell me too much so I decided to have a look in the Resource Manager.Sure enough under the CPU tab of the Resource Manager there is a process called System Interrupts that has a description of "Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines" with a average CPU usage of about 30%.I did notice that when I first turn my laptop on and boot in to Windows that this process uses about 1 - 5 % CPU usage and my temperatures stay at about 28 - 32 degrees Celsius.Usually after some time of using the laptop I notice this temprature rises to about 48 - 54 degrees Celsius and when I check the process it is using around 30% CPU usage, usually to resolve this I restart my laptop and everything goes back to normal and the process is back down to 1 - 5 % CPU usage.I done a little research online and found that clean boot of Windows may solve the problem, I did this then re-installed all the required drivers from my system manufacturer, installed Avast Antivirus Pro then done a Windows Update.
