Is there a setting on win 7 whereby I can have it defragment without having to leave it on all the time? Also when it defragments while I am using it, it slows down a lot so that's not a good solution for me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy ISP lmits my download to almost nothing, except for three hours in the early morning. I have a monitor in my notification area that tells how many MB I have left (this is from the ISP), and during the day with nothing running my MB slowly drops. I installed NetBalancer, to see where all the download was going, and all I can find downloading is Windows Update, and System Resources. At least for the most part that is.So my question is, Is there any way to limit Windows Update, and other Windows Systems to downloading only during those three hours? I have Windows Update setting set to only Install at 4:00am. But it still downloads during the day. So is there any thing I can do, a reg edit, or something?

Is there any way that I could use the Parental Control feature on each separate account in a sense that whenever the user logs in, the time restriction starts? As oppose to the time restriction being set at specific hours. And is there also a way that whenever the user logs out, if he still has time left, it will pause the time restriction and resume when he logs back in?

I am have 2 256GB SSDs running in raid 1 as my 'C' drive and 2-2TB hard drives are 'D' & 'E'. My system tells me that windows is handling the defragmentation of my drives. What I would like to know is if there is a way to stop the system from defragmenting my SSD 'C' drives, but let the OS defragment my D and E hard drives. Also is there a way to control which drives the system is defragmenting?

Seeing as it is listing in the Disk Defragmenter, which states that only disks which can be defragmented are shown i am assuming that it is. I recently had to reinstall windows on one of my laptops so checked the disks for fragmentation a fews days later and i noticied that all disks had been defraged apart from C: drive and the recovery partition. I also have a brand new laptop, which is also running Windows 7 x64 and all disks were defraged apart from C: drive again. Having looked at the schedule the date/time had not come up yet so i am assuming that is why, but why would windows choose to defrag one drive but not another? Lastly, i notice Windows chooses to schedule a defrag every Wedneday at 01:00 by default so i assume if my laptop is off it will start the defrag process the next time i turn my system on, correct?

I keep the C drive lean. All files are " moved to " my external hard drive. Meaning, most often I need to plug in my ext.HDD in order to access files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat i mean is, if i drag or right click a file (picture, folder or film etc) and select delete, the file goes to the recycle bin no problem, but it appears to stay on the desktop too. It is definately in the bin also, if i select the file once in the bin it wont open because windows tells me it doesnt exsist so why is the icon left behind ? its anoying to have to refresh to see it dissapear.
Also emptying the bin of the file doesnt make a difference either. Icon remains.I have ran a virus check, spyware, malware etc... PC is as clean as a whistle.

I'm running Windows 7, the keyboard works fine as long as I'm using it but when I leave the PC for hours and try to work after that, the keyboard doesn't work and I have to use the on-screen keyboard to login and continue working on the on-screen keyboard only. The only way for the keyboard to work again is if I restart the PC.
Is there an option that I have to check or something? Anyone knows how to resolve this problem ..

Frequently, when I open a program then close it, it will often leave a radio button on the screen. The button cannot be removed, moved, or clicked. The only way that I've cleared it was to change screen resolution, then revert back.
I am running Aero settings and themes. I have plenty of memory available and the computer runs fast enough with the bells and whistles running.
I'm guessing it's an issue with the driver and a newer driver may address it, but I guess it could be something else.
Anyone seen this or any ideas?

View 8 Replies View RelatedReplaced my VGA cable with and HDMI cable because screen wouldn't leave power save mode due to lack of communication between tower and screen. HDMI solves that. Now I have no internet connection. No signs of life. Cable guy comes over plugs his laptop into the..box thing where the internet comes from... says the internet is working fine must be your computer and he leaves. So now that my screen is working I can trouble shoot - can't find a network adapter. I have no idea what that means, and it is not listed anywhere on my control panel list of drivers and things. Tried to reinstall whatever that is.. which is hard when your just guessing and clicking things. Bottom line is after using the drivers and devices disc and reinstalling everything that said "network" in the title there is still no signs of life. I don't have wireless so the whole adapter thing isn't making sense either.
